Monotype 2# DARK Monotype current peak around 1100 (I haven't been playing much I don't have time)

This is my second RMT, this time a Monotype. When I started playing Showdown in SS, before I made this account and started looking into Smogon, I used to play random monotypes everytime I played. I haven’t really played Monotype as much since, and because it’s a new generation, and my favorite type is Dark, I created this team. MY eak is pretty low because i recently made this team and I haven't had much time playing, but the first games with this team (replays are at the bottom) were pretty good.
(Note: the sprites are in their regular form, i do not know how to change between forms if someone could tell me i would aprreciate it.)

Team-Building Process
:samurott:
I started with H-Samurott, as it could reliably set up spikes while doing damage, which my team could benefit from.
:samurott::grimmsnarl:
I then put in Grimmsnarl as the screen-setter so that the sweepers on my team could better handle attacks while setting up.
:samurott::grimmsnarl::hoopa::kingambit:
I put in Hoopa-U and Kingambit as the main sweepers, Hoopa-U as a Choice Band Set and Kingambit as a Bulky Swords Dance set.
:samurott::grimmsnarl::hoopa::kingambit:
I removed Kingambit for Moltres-G because I wanted a Special Attacker and Hoopa-U seemed better for the Physical Side.
:samurott::grimmsnarl::hoopa::moltres:
I wanted a Status Spreader, so Brute Bonnet sparked at me, as it had a decent attack as well as being the only dark type to have Spore in SV.
:samurott::grimmsnarl::hoopa::moltres::brute bonnet:
Lastly, I wanted a Bulky Offensive pokemon that could tank hits and do more damage in return, and for me Ting-Lu fit that role quite well.

The Actual Team:

:sv/samurott:
Samurott-Hisui @ Focus Sash
Ability: Sharpness
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 HP / 252 Spe
Naive Nature
- Ceaseless Edge
- Sacred Sword
- Taunt
- Razor Shell

Mixed-Lead Samurott. This Samurott is Offense based, as shown in the 252 Atk / 252 Spe / 4 HP EV spread , with the purpose of using CeaseEdge to set up Spikes. Naive nature boosts its speed with a decrease in SpD, but because of focus sash it will live at least one hit. Focus Sash I to get at least one layer of Spikes up. Ceaseless Edge is for spikes and damage, sacred sword and Razor Shell for coverage and STAB with Sharpness boosting all of Hamurott’s moves (Besides Taunt, which is used to shut down lead Stallers.)

:sv/grimmsnarl:
Grimmsnarl @ Light Clay
Ability: Prankster
EVs: 248 HP / 8 Def / 252 SpD
Tera Type: Steel
Careful Nature
- Reflect
- Light Screen
- Taunt / Parting Shot
- Spirit Break

This is my Screen-Setter. Because of Prankster, I can set them up as soon as they hit the field. The EV spread makes Grimm bulky enough to avoid 2HKO from Torkoal Eruption in the sun with Light Screen up, along with other things.

252+ SpA Torkoal Eruption (150 BP) vs. 248 HP / 252 SpD Grimmsnarl in Sun through Light Screen: 75-88 (37.3 - 43.7%) -- guaranteed 3HKO

Taunt is used to shut down stall and setups, while Parting Shot is a reliable pivot move that lowers the attacking stats of the opponent. Spirit Break is the main attacking move, as it lowers SpA and does some damage with Grimm’s 120 base Atk stat.

:sv/moltres:
Moltres-Galar @ Weakness Policy
Ability: Berserk
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 HP
IVs: 0 Atk
Modest Nature
- Agility
- Defog
- Hurricane
- Fiery Wrath

This is the Special Sweeper of the team. The EV spread is to make Moltres-G as bulky as possible to live a hit to activate Weakness Policy without touching its Maxed out SpA. Agility to boost its speed so it can sweep more effectively. Defog is to clear hazards reliably, and although it clears out my own hazards, My team can better handle hazards set by Pokemon like Glimmora. Fiery Wrath and Hurricane are its main STAB moves, and Modest nature is to maximize the amount of damage its moves do.

:sv/hoopa:
Hoopa-Unbound @ Choice Band
Ability: Magician
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Hyperspace Fury
- Gunk Shot
- Drain Punch
- Zen Headbutt

THis is the physical sweeper of the team: With CHoice Band Adamant Max Attack, can OHKO a lot of pokemon in the tier. Hyperspace FUry is its Main spammable STAB move that deals a ton of damage. Drain Punch is for recovery, gunk shot is for fairy coverage, and Zen Headbutt is its strongest STAB physical psychic type move. Max Speed for being as fast as possible to land Choice-banded hits.

:sv/brute bonnet:
Brute Bonnet @ Loaded Dice
Ability: Protosynthesis
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Spore
- Bullet Seed
- Sucker Punch
- Close Combat

I want a pokemon that could spread status, so I came up with Jolly Offensive Spore Brute Bonnet, with Max Attack and Speed to hit hard and spread sleep as fast as it can go (WHich might not be a lot due to its 55 speed stat). BUllet seed is guaranteed to hit at least 4-5 times, meaning it has a 200-250 STAB grass move that breaks Sturdy/Focus Sash. Sucker Punch is its STAB priority move, negating it's low speed, and Close Combat is for coverage against steel, rock, other dark types, and normal types.

:sv/ting lu:
Ting-Lu @ Assault Vest
Ability: Vessel of Ruin
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 SpD
Careful Nature
- Earthquake
- Heavy Slam
- Ruination
- Bulldoze

Ting-Lu is a Hard hitting bulky Dark type, so I turned it into a hell of an offensive wall. Maxing it’s HP while maxing it’s SpD and Assault Vest and Careful Nature to make Flutter Mane be unable to 4KO Ting-Lu. Earthquake is its main ground STAB move, Heavy Slam for Fairy Coverage such as Flutter Mane. RUination is for whittling down opponents so they can get KOed faster, and Bulldoze is for speed control, so it can make opponents slow down so it can switch out to another pokemon to KO it or Ting-Lu can just outspeed to kill it (which would take at least 2 Bulldozes). It also hits decently due to Ting-Lu’s 100 base Atk.

That was the RMT.
That’s all from me for now.

POKEMON CHANGES
:Hoopa-Unbound: -> :Chien-Pao:
Chien-Pao @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Sword of Ruin
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Icicle Crash
- Ice Shard / Crunch
- Sacred Sword / Brick Break
- Swords Dance

Chien-Pao is way too good not to use and Hoopa-Unbound is a bit slow to function well on Hyper Offense. Chien-Pao also just has a really great matchup versus most types, namely Flying and Dragon.

:Brute Bonnet: -> :Meowscarada:
Meowscarada @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Protean
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Flower Trick
- Knock Off / Trick
- Play Rough
- U-turn

Meowscarada is a staple and due to the team's lack of speed control, it's going to be beneficial to replace Brute Bonnet with it. Being able to fight off Water more effectively is also a great feat.

:Ting-Lu: -> :Kingambit:
Kingambit @ Leftovers
Ability: Supreme Overlord
Tera Type: Dark
EVs: 116 HP / 252 Atk / 140 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Kowtow Cleave / Low Kick
- Iron Head
- Sucker Punch
- Swords Dance

Due to the nature of the team, Ting-Lu is going to be a massive momentum sink and generally too passive for Hyper Offense. Kingambit on the other hand provides a great buffer in the Fairy matchup and efficient late-game cleaning,

SET CHANGES
:Samurott-Hisui:
Samurott-Hisui @ Focus Sash
Ability: Sharpness
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Naive Jolly Nature
- Ceaseless Edge
- Sacred Sword Knock Off / Encore
- Taunt
- Razor Shell

A Naive nature is suboptimal since you're not actually using a special attack and Knock Off/Encore are a huge help as a lead, disrupting the opponent's defenses whereas Sacred Sword is rarely going to be topping the utility moves.

:Moltres-Galar:
Moltres-Galar @ Weakness Policy
Ability: Berserk
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
IVs: 0 Atk
Modest Nature
- Agility
- Defog Nasty Plot
- Hurricane
- Fiery Wrath

Galarian Moltres doesn't learn Defog and Weakness Policy isn't reliable as a consistent way to boost, so Nasty Plot is needed, capitalizing on Grimmsnarl's screens.
