Special Attacker
########
name: Special Attacker
move 1: Thunderbolt / Volt Switch
move 2: Flamethrower / Overheat
move 3: Hidden Power Ice / Snarl / Volt Switch
move 4: Protect
ability: Lightningrod
item: Manectite
evs: 252 SpA / 252 Spe / 4 Def
nature: Timid / Modest
Moves
========
- Thunderbolt is the most reliable STAB move
- Volt Switch is to gain momentum
- Flamethrower is a reliable way to deal with Pokemon like Metagross
- Overheat lowers Special Attack, but guarantees the KO on Heracross and Ferrothorn
- Hidden Power Ice to deal with Landorus and Garchomp
- Snarl can lower the Special Attack of both of the opposing Pokemon
- Protect to gain a safe Mega Evolving turn
Set Details
========
- A Timid nature maximizes Manectric's speed
- 252 Special Attack EVs to maximize Special Attack
- Manectite is the only item to run
- Modest can be used for extra firepower, but leaves you outsped by positive-natured base 120 Speed Pokemon and above
Usage Tips
========
- Works amazingly as a hit-and-run Pokemon early and mid game
- You can bring it in simply for Intimidate and then Volt Switch out
- Be careful of switching in Man since it gets worn down easily
- Garchomp and Landorus needs a small amount of prior damage before they are KOed with HP Ice
Team Options
========
- Landorus-Therain is a great teammate since it has both Intimidate and U-Turn and it is immune to Ground
- Although hard to pull off in VGC, Pokemon with Defog or Rapid Spin help since Manectric hates entry hazards
- Manectric has issues with Special Walls like Cresselia and Chansey, so use a Pokemon that can beat both of them, like Aegislash or Bisharp
Other Options
########
- Manectric has a shallow movepool, so it doesn't have too many options.
- HP Grass is a way to hit Quagsire and Gastrodon, although those two are very rare and HP Ice is better in most situations. It also hits Swampert, however, which is a bit more common.
- Discharge can be used to hit both of the opponents Pokemon and can Paralyze more often, but it hits your teammate as well, and is a weaker move.
