Starting off, we have a new entry to the 1v1 scene in the form of Global Cup! Taking the place of the usual Winter Seasonal, this tournament type takes a different approach to the usual elimination format by having every player face 2 opponents every main round, with 0-2s being eliminated, 2-0s advancing safely, and 1-1s facing off against each other to determine who gets to advance onwards.
Moving on, as we discussed in the Tournament Policy thread, 1v1's Premier League will be beginning its transition towards having franchises and retains, with this year being the first where we will have the franchises as determined by vote, so that we can introduce retains in 2023. While this won't really change too much about how 2022 will work, prospective players and managers alike will have to keep these things in mind for future Premier Leagues.
Next up, 1v1's Ladder Tournament will be shifting its playoffs format to emulate that of the Official Ladder Tournament. This means that instead of the usual double elimination playoffs, we'll have a swiss-style playoffs where the top 8 players to come out of it face off in a single elimination format to determine the winner. This means that once the swiss rounds are over, you don't get any more chances to afford losing, so the qualifiers will need to stay on their toes!
1v1's World Cup will be facing a notably more significant change; given how the census preceding signups often fails to provide accurate data as to what the final region signups look like, we have decided to scrap the census and instead determine regions based on player signups, with both regions and captains being announced some time after player signups go up. If you'd like an example of what this looks like, feel free to read up here!
Given how many changes we've had to our Seasonals, as well as how many of them often stretch far beyond their given season, it seems hardly fair to still call them "seasonal" at this point, and so, we've decided to rebrand them into 1v1 Masters! Alongside this change, the tournament will also be seeded based on circuit standings, rather than being done via random bracket generation. We're hoping this change will help move the tournament towards being more competitive, as well as being more interesting to watch from the outside.
1v1 Majors will not be facing many significant changes, though the period of time for the pools phase will be cut down to 2 weeks, instead of the 3 we had this year.
Depending on how well the playoffs format for Ladder Tournament is received, 1v1's Circuit Championships may also adopt the same format. Otherwise, it will more than likely continue on as the double elimination setup we had this year.
Finally, as a means of hopefully improving the competition towards qualifying for the Circuit Championships, the points earned for participating in each tournament will be balanced out, with each tour being worth a maximum of 500 points, rather than having some be worth more than others as we did this year.
