Welcome to the 2024 Monotype Circuit Playoffs! This is what the entire year's Monotype tournament circuit has been leading up to, we now finally have our 16 playoff contestants. The whole tournament will be hosted in this thread. The winner of this tournament will receive the Monotype ribbon they've been playing to qualify for over the past year!

SPECIFIC RULES
  • This is a standard Gen 9 Monotype tournament
  • This tournament will be SINGLE Elimination
  • All rounds will be Best of Five. You may switch teams in between battles of the same set.
  • Matches are to be played on Pokemon Showdown! You must play on either smogtours or the main server. All other servers will not count even if you win!
  • To encourage the development of the metagame, and so that everyone is on an even playing field, all matches must have replays recorded. If neither player posts or at least saves replays of the match, the game will be coin flipped regardless of whoever won.
  • MAKE SURE TO POST YOUR REPLAYS. ALL REPLAYS MUST BE POSTED IN THE THREAD FOR IT TO COUNT!
Standard Rules and Clauses
  • Sleep Clause Mod: Limit one foe put to sleep
  • Species Clause: Limit one of each Pokémon
  • OHKO Clause: OHKO moves are banned
  • Evasion Items Clause: Evasion items are banned
  • Evasion Moves Clause: Evasion moves are banned
  • Endless Battle Clause: Forcing endless battles is banned
  • HP Percentage Mod: HP is shown in percentages
  • Evasion Abilities Clause: Evasion abilities are banned
  • Same Type Clause: Pokémon in a team must share a type
  • Terastal Clause: You cannot Terastallize
  1. Identity: I expect many battles to be completed under alts. This can be bad for tournament security, and thus I will make this clear: If I hear any whispers of identity theft (battling as someone you are not) or proxy battling (helping someone else battle through pm) I will not be pleased and I will take severe actions.
  2. Scouting: Next, I do not want to hear anything about counterteaming, at all. Do not complain about it. I also don't want to hear about any blatant scouting. There is a difference between "[user] is known for using Fire-type" and "let me follow [user] around all day to watch all his battles since I am his opponent". I expect a lot of the former and none of the latter. I give permission to all battlers to ask any person spectating their battle to leave if they do not want them watching. Everyone will have access to your replays from earlier rounds though.
  3. Timer Clause: As for taking long between moves, if your opponent asks you to hurry up, please oblige. If you are doing a damage calc for a key turn that is one thing, but prolonging every move is suspicious and annoying. Don't do it. Furthermore, Battle Timeout is a rule for a reason. If you run out of time, you lose, simple as that. It does not matter what your opponent says. Do not battle if you think you will have to leave mid battle, and instead reschedule for a better time.
  4. Disconnections: Finally, in the case of a disconnect, the decision is in the hands of the player who did not disconnect. The options are: redo the battle move for move, redo the battle with the same teams but different moves, or redo the battle with completely different teams. If the battle was without a doubt over, they may also take the win. Any suspicion that a disconnect was committed on purpose to redo a match may be appealed to me, and if I feel this happened there will be severe consequences, don't do it.

Playoffs time, wooooooo!

1. Dieu Amphibien vs 16. memomiguel -Kind of a bold bold (xD), but I think a massive upset can happen here.
2. Chaitanya vs 15. RoFnA - Sadly I don't remember any of RoFnA games, so I think I'll just play safe here.
3. Fraolain vs 14. JojoOui - Same as matchup above.
4. Leafium Z vs 13. adjustments
5. ArkenCiel vs 12. Neko - I will bold Neko to try and give her the confidence boost she needs.
6. ikiarihS vs 11. Whitespaniard - I feel like Whitespaniard is more in touch with SV, but ikiarihS' ingame is generally sharper, althought some hiccups here and there can pop out.
7. Azick vs 10. Ethereal Sword - Honestly, I feel like this is the most even matchup so far and as long as none of these dudes get an act win (iykyk), it's gonna be a blast to watch.
8. crash vs 9. Cielau - Cielau's package in SV is just overall more solid than crashy's, but the old man can definitely do it.

Welcome to this new edition of predicts!

1. Dieu Amphibien vs 16. memomiguel I think memomiguel is having their breakout and I think memo takes it here.
2. Chaitanya vs 15. RoFnA - RofnA is incredibly underrated. I'm rooting for them and hope they win the tour.
3. Fraolain vs 14. JojoOui - I think we have a very good and close match between these two. While i do think they may take it to game 5 i think jojo might barley get the dub, it could swing either way.
4. Leafium Z vs 13. adjustments - well!
5. ArkenCiel vs 12. Neko - While arken certainly may be a rust bucket having not played since the leaves were still growing on the trees, i think with a simple oil change this mono machine is taking it.
6. ikiarihS vs 11. Whitespaniard - I think whitespaniard may not actually show up to the match! But if they do i think ikiarihS may be ran them hands, but this is a flip up just like ones before.
7. Azick vs 10. Ethereal Sword -
8. crash vs 9. Cielau - I love watching cielau play. Also rooting for a finals for them.

Dieu Amphibien vs memomiguel (65/35) Dieu top 5 best players in SV Monotype so he definitely should be winning this

Chaitanya vs RoFnA (65/35) chait very skilled and one of most creative players in this tour im sure he'll cook as long as he is minimally motivated

Fraolain vs JojoOui (70/30) no offense to jojooui but frol1 is SV goat, my favorite player to win this tournament

Leafium Z vs adjustments (53/47) leaf's been more consistent as far as i know and has solid team pool but adjustments def can win if he outpreps

ArkenCiel vs Neko (55/45) Close game but ArkenCiel is more experienced and very skilled, also preps very very well against whoever he's facing despite Neko having a very solid knowledge about the tier and playing abilities. Would be a very cool game to watch fsure though

ikiarihS vs Whitespaniard (47/53) Whitespaniard is more involved in SV Monotype as far as I know and has consistently improving in the tier despite shiraiki being more experienced

Azick vs Ethereal Sword (51/49) can go either way

crash vs Cielau (45/55) crash is solid player overall but he's more involved in oldgens than current gen, also Cieloat.

gl everyone looking forward to it would bet either on Cielau or Frol1 to take it all!

1. Dieu Amphibien vs 16. memomiguel Can't vote against the person who beat me in this tier lol
2. Chaitanya vs 15. RoFnA Haven't seen RoFnA play much, but Chait has a lot of skill
3. Fraolain vs 14. JojoOui Can't vote against the goat
4. Leafium Z vs 13. adjustments Both very skilled players, will be a great match.
5. ArkenCiel vs 12. Neko Two good builders, will come down to if Arken can play well despite time away vs. How consistent Neko is playing
6. ikiarihS vs 11. Whitespaniard Gonna come down to who preps better
7. Azick vs 10. Ethereal Sword MOTW if the mus aren't degenerate offense 100-0s. Both great players, will be interesting to see what they bring.
8. crash vs 9. Cielau Going to favor current involvement more, but this can easily swing to the other side

1. Dieu Amphibien vs 16. memomiguel - If by some hasard u start to live at 5min about Dieu amphibien, don't accept to play a game irl. He's really good to break ur focus ! (Or just shame on me to think clefable can have 5 moves ...)
2. Chaitanya vs 15. RoFnA - Ngl, I would not so suprise if RoFnA take this ribbon, that's a really good player. Unfort he faces Chait early and It's hard to don't bold him at this point
3. Fraolain vs 14. JojoOui - A french shodown, at this game I have to be honnest and say Frol1 is favorite. He's for the ribbon too anw
4. Leafium Z vs 13. adjustments - Sad fighting, I didn't want to see them lose so early. Little edge to leaf I think
5. ArkenCiel vs 12. Neko - Can't wait to see this BO, gl to both ! insert gif of a cat with pop-corn
6. ikiarihS vs 11. Whitespaniard - Whites show lot of good thing this year and that's a close mu but I think ikiarihS play better in general
7. Azick vs 10. Ethereal Sword - If u ask, y I didn't want to bold only the right side to don't curse me for my bo against Crash.... Ofc it's a joke and I just trust in the motivation of Ethereal to won this bo. It will be hard ngl, dependant of how Azick are motivate for the tournament

Gl everyone, I hope all game will be cool to watch
