Type A Tournaments
- Classic Cups: These five Bo3 Single Elimination tournaments form the qualification phase of Smogon Classic, the official tournament for the first five generations of OU. Their importance in the official circuit, their history, and their size are all crucial factors that make Cups such important tournaments within their respective circuits.
- Global Championships: In the most iconic Ruins of Alph tournament format, each round consists of two stages. In the first stage, you are paired with two opponents vs whom you need to play a Bo3, winning both gets you through to the next round, losing both gets you eliminated from the tournament. The second stage acts as a tiebreaker, where all players who went 1-1 in the first stage play a third Bo3 to go through to the following round.
- Winter & Summer Seasonals: The second most iconic Ruins of Alph tournament format, the good old Bo3 Double Elimination. At your first series lost, you get a second chance at winning the tournament by being placed in the Loser Bracket for all remaining rounds, while undefeated players carry on in the Winner Bracket.
- Ladder Tournaments: Similarly to the Official Ladder Tournament, these tournaments consist of two separate phases. In the first phase, players compete on the ladder with fresh accounts in different cycles. At the end of each cycle, the first x players at the top of the ladder qualify for the second phase, a Bo3 Single Elimination Playoffs bracket.
- Fairy Cups: These tournaments are meant to mimic Classic Cups in fairy gens.
- Last Chance: The last opportunity to earn points and qualify to the end of the year circuit championships, these tournaments are Bo3 Single Elimination (and almost always) No Johns, meaning round deadlines are significantly shortened.
