Well Ive been playing competitive singles for a while know, winning some and losing some but alas nobody knows me cos i'm not fantastic at battling. But recently i've been playing PBR and beating many people on the singles, especially with my Yanmega that normally causes the opponent to quit before the battle is even over lol. But i got to thinking.
How about playing doubles??
Know after watching some videos and reading the articles and looking at other teams ive noticed it is a totally different Metagame altogether, which allows for a wider range of creativity and strategy. I especially remember one battle on youtube in which a player used assist and had his purugly explode on the opponent.
So Ive been coming up with some Doubles teams and this one revolves around the Sun and includes my Favourite pokemon, Typhlosion so here is my Sunny Day Doubles Team.
-----------------------------
THE LEADS (Most of the Time)
Crobat
Timid - Inner Focus - Focus Sash (Heat Rock)
252 SpA - 252 Spe - 6 HP
Heat Wave
Sunny Day
Taunt
Protect
Crobat. One of the Fastest Sunny Day users there is with Taunt included. So taunt is there to stop the likes of Bronzong from setting up Trick Room on me as easily and to stop and Dragons from dancing the night away and coming home to sweep me. Protect is incase later i'm left with this and one of my pokemon that uses a move that would damage this or if i suspect the opponent is going the explode on me. Heat Wave gets boosted by Sunny Day and only hits the opponent =)
I'm thinking about putting a Heat Rock on this for the extra turns of sun but i'm not sure at the moment. Heat Rock would be viable as Crobat has reasonable defences
Typhlosion
Timid - Blaze - LeftOvers
252 SpA - 252 Spe - 4 HP
Solar Beam
Eruption
Heat Wave
Protect
Typhlosion. Now here is my favourite pokemon and im definatly starting with this in HGSS lol. Main source of damage will be a Sunny Day boosted Eruption.
Heat Wave is there for when im too weak to be able to cause decent damage with Eruption any more. Solar Beam is nice coverage for water types and doesnt need charging thanks to the sun. Protect is for scouting and protecting against explosion or moves.
Ive gone for the Timid for the extra speed as the sun is boosting my main sources of damage.
---------------------------
Exeggutor
Modest - Chlorophyll - Life Orb
252 SpA - 252 Spe - 4 HP
Protect
Solar Beam
Psychic
Explosion
Coconut.. Coconut.. Coconut... BANG!!
So here the the sun abuser number 1. Pretty obvious but it works. Protect for nice coverage against fake out and such. Solar Beam is a nice STAB and doesnt need Charging and would hurt most things that stay in. Not like waters because there not that stupid lol. Psychic is again a very nice STAB. Explosion is plausable on Exeggutor due to its speed being doubled in the sun and would cause nice damage to anything the opponent has on there side. Ive seen that HP Ice might be a better choice for any dragons that might be floating about.
Infernape
Naive - Blaze - Life Orb
52 Atk - 252 SpA - 200 Spe
Fake Out
Heat Wave
Grass Knot
Hidden Power Ice
Inferape. Ive never used one of these before. Not even in singles but there is always a time to start. Ive gone with the EV spread I have even though 3/4 of my attacks are special is so that Fake Out causes at least a nice bit of damage. Heat Wave is the sun abusing move to hurt both of the opponents. Grass Knot is a nice type coverage move to hurt any water types that my come to crash the party. Hidden Power Ice is for any dragons that might stay in against this and this has it because Exeggutor doesnt lol. This is a nice fast attacker to hurt the opponent.
Zapdos
Bold - Pressure - Heat Rock
248 HP - 228 Def - 32 Spe
Discharge
Heat Wave
Sunny Day
Roost
Zapdos. This had me thinking for a while.
I needed another Sunny Day user for when the sun runs out and this popped out as a nice usable pokemon. Has two moves that effect both of the opponents even if discharge does hurt me aswell. I Kept thinking do i need it physically or specially defensive. I chose defensive because Rock Slide is alway floating about. If something uses blizzard i can always switch to my fire types. Discharge is a nice STAB multiple target move and Heat Wave gets boosted by Sunny Day. Sunny Day is obvious to keep everything going. Roost is for survivability. Ive used Heat Rock for the extra turns and because Zapdos is fairly bulky.
Tangrowth
Adamant - Chlorophyll - LeftOvers
4 HP - 252 Atk - 252 Spe
Sleep Powder
Power Whip
Sunny Day > EarthQuake
Rock Slide
Tangrowth. Sun Abuser Number 2.
After Chlorophyll kicks in this can be a very usable pokemon. Sleep Powder what ever pokemon is going to cause the most hassle and proceed to attack. Power Whip is a Nice STAB for tangrowth. EarthQuake will hit anything that doesnt have Levitate or Flying Type. and RockSlide if for the Pesky flying types. After the Chlorophyll Kicks in this bundle of vines has nearly 400 Speed so can be a forced to be reaconed with.
I've decided that I needed a third Sunny Day user and out of the pokemon on my team this was the best candidate. It has the best defence out the the three that don't have Sunny Day and can disable one of the pokemon just before the sun goes down and then sets the sun right back up whilst only having to worry bout one opponent. So I replaced Earthquake because Rock Slide can hit any fliers that might come in to counter Tangrowth.
So there is the team that I have put together. Please remember that I have little experience with the Double Metagame and will probably use this mostly on PBR after ive made it. Thanks for any help given
