Congratulations to the 16 players who've qualified for playoffs! Massive thanks to our individual cup hosts, Finchinator, a fairy, Django, emma, and Eledyr for their time and effort hosting each cup to completion. In addition, thank you immensely to Ticken for creating the template of the standings sheet as well as the script that goes with it. Finally, a massive thank you to Blazenix for a complete redesign of the entirety of Smogon Classic Playoffs player cards and graphics; you are incredible to work with and everything you touch turns to literal gold, I appreciate all of the hard work you do to make Smogon Tournaments that much more special. (Also thank you for dealing with my bullshit when I send you the wrong seeding)

Some of you might have noticed something fun about this year's Classic playoff field. If we rank them by "career individual playoffs prior to this tournament," we get the following list:

Star has made as many individual playoffs as those other 14 players in this playoff combined. His first was 9 years ago now at this very tournament, in which he made the quarterfinals at Classic III, losing to We Three Kings (who would go on to lose to dice, who would in turn lose in the finals to giara). That is, to date, his only time making it out of the first round here, getting eliminated by Altina at Classic VII, johnnyg2 at Classic IX, and eventual champion M Dragon at Classic X. Owing to me getting this post out late, I'll refrain from lingering for too long here, but it IS important for the next piece of trivia:

Someday I'll make a longer piece of writing on SoulWind, I think. His all-time Smogon ranking is probably pretty uncontroversially 3rd, which is obviously impressive, but his profile is just completely unlike anyone else on the list. SoulWind's first career individual playoff was back in 2012, when he qualified for Smogon Tour 13, knocked out Tamahome (then known as DracoMalfoy), and then dropped to finalist Malekith. Since then, SoulWind has averaged just under 3 individual playoffs per year for 15 years. From 2018 to 2025, he made 32 individual playoffs, averaging 4 per year and never finishing a year without qualifying for at least 3. There are 36 players to have ever qualified for 3 individual playoffs in a year. There are only 7 to have qualified for 4 in a year, and Star's the only one to have done it even twice, whereas SoulWind has done it 5 times and averaged that total over an 8 year span.

SoulWind, of course, already has a Classic trophy. That was back in 2020 in the sixth edition of the tournament, his third time qualifying, and his second time making finals after McMeghan had bested him the year prior. He would win OLT and STour over the next couple years after that, at that point joining Ciele and ABR as the only players on the site with at least 3 individuals (Empo and MichaelderBeste2 have since joined this club). No one has won multiple Classic trophies, and only a few players on the site have won multiple of any trophy (Tricking is the only player with more than one of a non-STour trophy).

This isn't meant to be a long post, but I'll share a few points that I find interesting. First, SoulWind's 54% sheet winrate is fairly pedestrian compared to some of the other all-time greats (and because his sample size is by far the largest, it's also the most reliable), but SoulWind playing literally everything on the site drags that number down, because only about 50% of his sheet games are in BW OU (in which he has a 60% winrate) and because most other players sit out tournaments when they don't feel at their best. Second, SoulWind's historically abysmal individual finals record is mostly a function of starting his career 0-5 in that regard. Since 2020 he's 3/6 in individual finals with 24 playoff appearances, the latter number still being greater than any other player ever.

There are essentially two possibilities remaining in this tournament. Either SoulWind becomes the first player ever to win multiple Classic trophies, and we get a fun conversation about the top of the all-time rankings again, or we get a winner that, in the spring, we would have considered somewhere between "a little surprising" and "absolutely shocking." Both are fun! Would have picked Star (or Kristyl) to win this tournament, but now I'm not sure!

Btw for next round, could the players post the day and time they're playing? I think it makes for better spectacle to anticipate a game than for it to suddenly start. I know we can check walls, but it's more practical to have it in the play-offs thread.

OLT also does the following by using timestamps so there's no need to convert to one's timezone if hosts want to follow suit:
