3v3 LC Singles! CowboyJake vs. nightblitz42!

GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD MORNING, ASB FANS! or whatever the current time may be in your time zone!

If you're just tuning in, we've been preparing for an anticipated battle here at the ASB Arena, between two aspiring Trainers, CowboyJake (Though I wouldn't dare wear a poncho in this weather) and nightblitz42 , who is also wearing an uncomfortably hot costume. I hope you all brought some ice water, or Feraligatrade if that's more your style. Stay hydrated, folks! Let's get down to the rules for this battle.

Standing on opposite sides of the arena, the two Water-types size each other up. No clear type advantage is visible yet, and the crowd is tense. Gabby seems to be more agile, and has the speed advantage, but Steve's larger HP pool could mean more longevity! This matchup may take longer than average, but that just means more excitement, right?

Right out of the gate (or, gatr?), Gabby lunges forward, arms aglow! The Totodile slams directly into Steve with a stone-cleaving strike that deals some massive damage! It's a good thing Steve didn't have any barriers up, otherwise it would have been even worse for the poor Spheal. Luckily, Aqua Ring doesn't count as bricks for Brick Break to break, and Steve sets it up with ease, cloaking himself in a veil of soothing water. He'll now heal at the end of each action! And he's definitely going to need it, because it looks like more Fighting-type punishment is coming his way!

Gabby's not letting up, and throws out a relatively weak punch with a devastating power-up effect! After that, Gabby's Attack stat is even higher than before. It still did some decent damage though, due to the type effectiveness. Steve responds with an incredible Earthquake attack, shaking the arena wildly and knocking Gabby down for some decent damage. The Aqua Ring continues to provide Steve with its healing services, and it'll prove to be useful in the long run, for sure.

The next Brick Break Gabby throws out comes crashing down on Steve harder than before, thanks to her newly boosted Attack stat! This Spheal is really not having a good time today! Reeling back, Steve shoots out a peculiar Signal Beam! This hits Gabby back for some more damage; it was definitely more effective than the Earthquake was. The Aqua Ring is still working in Steve's favor, patching up his significant bruising.

Steve looks pretty banged up, but the Aqua Ring is providing some much-needed relief. Meanwhile, Gabby's offensive presence is massive, thanks to that Attack boost. This battle could still head in either direction!

After the beating he received last round, Steve is looking for revenge! Thanks to his Aqua Ring and high HP pool, the Spheal has managed to hold on so far, but let's see how he's going to fair against Gabby and her Attack-boosting strategies!

Speaking of those strategies, Gabby continues her assault with yet another Power-Up Punch, smacking Steve around critically and bolstering the Totodile's Attack power even more. The energy flowing from this Pokemon is pretty intense; having two boosts isn't something to take lightly in these battles...but Steve pays no mind, and retaliates with a chilling Ice Beam, which didn't seem so effective, but the damage was still enough to send Gabby reeling back. With no lucky freezes, all Steve has to rely on is his trusty Aqua Ring, which continues to heal him periodically.

With two boosts under her belt, this next Brick Break is looking to break a lot more than bricks, or any kind of construction! This Totodile is out for blood, and is willing to break any Spheal she sees...though, I'm pretty sure that's banned in some regions. Anything goes in ASB, folks! Steve composes himself inside the center pool before summoning the water around him in a deadly Surf attack, splashing all the walls in the arena and carrying Gabby away in the blast. While the damage doesn't seem too high, it sure sent Gabby for a ride!

It seems that Gabby's power level is going to continue increasing at an alarming rate. A third Power-Up Punch leaves Steve with some major bruises, and Gabby's body bursting with energy, at three boosts! Luckily, 9000 is not a number you can hit with Power-Up Punch alone. We don't want the whole arena blowing up on us. Desperate, Steve launches another Ice Beam, which does decent damage yet again, and the surrounding water from his Surf earlier made the Ice Beam that much more crystalline and spectacular.

Steve is on the end of his ropes, with Aqua Ring powering down and his HP in a bad spot, but the damage on Gabby is adding up, and Power-Up Punch luckily gives only short-term boosts. With Gabby's power levels beginning to decline, she may have to find a new strategy.

With Steve down and out, CowboyJake decides to send out their Chikorita, Adeleine! With a type and speed advantage, she's looking pretty confident. My guess as a commentator is that she'll be able to finish what Steve started, but in ASB, you never really know what can happen!

Kicking this round off with a defensive maneuver, Adeline creates a magical barrier from raw energy! This wall greatly reduces physical damage done to those behind it. It's a great strategy, considering Gabby's offensive nature, but the Trainer seemed to neglect something...Oh, right, Gabby knows Brick Break, and with one swift strike, the Reflect is destroyed! Without the barrier, it's clear to see the damage output Gabby is capable of!

Going on the offensive this time, Adeleine calls up phantasmal leaves to strike her foes! No need to check accuracy on this one; Magical Leaf always hits its target. With the type advantage, it sure stings, too! Gabby was already beat up, and this damage sure isn't helping her state. In an act of desperation, Gabby freezes the water in the arena pool into massive spikes and lunges forward, chomping into Adeleine with a super-powerful Ice Fang! The hit was absolutely massive, and Adeleine is already showing major signs of damage from just the first round of combat!

Gabby needs time to rest afterwards, so Adeleine follows up with another Magical Leaf to tack on damage. Completely defenseless, Gabby takes the brunt of the attack, and has no follow-up! How unfortunate.

An intense first round for Adeleine, but Gabby is on the ropes. This matchup should be coming to a close soon, but Gabby sure has some tricks up her sleeves! Err...claws!

Round 5!

Alright, since I don't have time to do fluff and flavor, let me share a couple advices with you, k?

1) While ordering last is addictive to the point of beind mind-numbing (or perhaps ordering first is terrifying to the point of being mind-numbing, you pick your poison), if you see that your mon have the advantage against the opponent's mon, you should switch. Since the player can't initiate two switch phases in a row, the guy is stuck with your mon and you will have 3 rounds to trounce it. This advice is even stronger when you can't really deal damage with your current mon to the one being sent in.
2) run calcs. Even under light screen Heat Wave deals more damage than Flame Charge. While that subbing for reflect/light screen is as common as common can be, in some cases it is best to just shrug and keep hitting with whatever you have available.
