===========
Conkeldurr wields its enormous base 140 Attack alongside the evergreen BoltBeam combination to rip apart defensive cores like little else. When boosted by both Life Orb and Iron Fist, Drain Punch can OHKO the two most common defensive Pokemon in the tier, Ferrothorn and Tyranitar, while restoring any Life Orb recoil and other residual damage. Ice Punch and Thunder Punch function as excellent coverage moves that allow Conkeldurr to hit foes that either resist or are immune to its STAB options like Gliscor, Dragonite, Starmie, and Jellicent super effectively. Mach Punch allows Conkeldurr to pick off fighting-weak pokemon like Tyranitar, Excadrill, and Terrakion as well as other weakened foes. It also lets Conkeldurr to get some last bit of damage against foes before fainting, putting common revenge killers such as Keldeo and Thundurus-T into range of Conkeldurr's teammates, such as the faster Latios. Breaking Alakazam's Focus Sash is also appreciated by Conkeldurr's teammates which could not otherwise OHKO it.
Set Details
===========
Life Orb allows Conkeldurr to cleanly OHKO common checks such as Tentacruel, Thundurus-T, and Landorus-T after Intimidate with its coverage options.. If Conkeldurr can more reliably be supported against these threats and pivoted into the battlefield, then Fist Plate provides a no-drawback boost to Conkeldurr's primary attacks. Iron Fist is used to boost all of Conkeldurr's punching-based attacks. Maximizing special bulk lets Conkeldurr tank some special moves, even with its lackluster special defense; for example, the given EVs allow Conkeldurr to survive a Hydro Pump from a Choice Scarf Keldeo from full HP in rain. An Adamant nature with 236 Attack EVs is used to further elevate Conkeldurr's offensive presence.
Team Options
============
Pivots like Landorus-T, Rotom-W, and Jirachi play a crucial role in granting Conkeldurr safe entry opportunities, allowing it to avoid faster threats and strong special attackers that threaten it. Landorus-T softens physical foes with Intimidate and uses U-turn to maintain momentum, while Rotom-W utilizes Volt Switch to pivot and bring Conkeldurr in against targets it can pressure, such as Ferrothorn. However, Jirachi is Conkeldurr's best and most prominent partner. In addition to its capability to check and force out Psychic-types with its excellent typing and U-turn, Jirachi can cripple its answers such as Skarmory, Forretress, and Tentacruel, which are also potential roadblocks to Conkeldurr, by using Trick to give them a Choice Scarf or by paralyzing them with Thunder or Body Slam. Healing Wish is also an incredible boon to Conkeldurr, giving it a second chance at a sweep after it has weakened its own answers in its first attempt. Even though pivots give Conkeldurr plenty of entry opportunities, entry Hazards like Spikes can significantly limit the number of times it can switch in safely. Starmie helps alleviate this issue by removing hazards with Rapid Spin while also pressuring key physical walls like Skarmory, making it easier for Conkeldurr to stay healthy and threatening throughout the match. Starmie also has the tendency to invite Tyranitar and Ferrothorn onto the field, which is a prime switch-in opportunity for Conkeldurr. Latias offers crucial support to Conkeldurr by checking dangerous rain-boosted threats like Keldeo and Thundurus-T, which can otherwise overwhelm it with speed and powerful special attacks. Latias also brings a strong offensive presence with Draco Meteor and can use Healing Wish like Jirachi. To address troublesome Psychic-types such as Latios, Alakazam ,and Reuniclus, Pursuit trappers like Tyranitar are effective. Alternatively, Scizor is a more offensive pursuit user, using Bullet Punch to clean up against weakened threats and Swords Dance to set up and punish passive Psychic-types that can't deal enough damage back to it.
