Gen 4 4OU: The Pretender (Gyara + TTar DD Offence)

Introduction:
Heya all, this is a fairly basic team I've been messing around with recently that I thought was decently interesting, it's fun to play (at least in my opinion) and feels pretty solid. However, currently I feel like the team does have some issues at certain points, as it can struggle to set up/maintain hazards and deal with ddance sweepers, but aside from that I think it's overall a decent team.

The inspo for the team's name is the song "The Pretender" by the Foo Fighters.

Team Details:
jirachi.png

Bon Jovi (Jirachi) @ Leftovers
Ability: Serene Grace
EVs: 252 HP / 144 SpD / 112 Spe
Careful Nature
- Iron Head
- Thunder Wave
- Healing Wish
- Stealth Rock

Jirachi serves several roles on this team. Firstly, it leads and tries to set up rocks, which provides useful chip for the rest of the team, it can then act as a specially defensive pivot and spread para using twave, which can then be exploited by the slower members of the team such as loom and tran. Finally, it can use healing wish to fully heal and pivot to one of the other members of the team, which works particularly well with the ddancers on the team, allowing them to be more flexible in how they're played. In terms of EVs, 112 Spe EVs allows rachi to outspeed max neutral gyara and max neutral tran, allowing it to para both if needed. 252 HP maximises rachi's general bulk and 144+ SpD increases its special bulk even further, allowing it to switch into CM mons such as supercune and superachi, and para them for another member of the team to deal with.

breloom.png

Amanita (Breloom) @ Toxic Orb
Ability: Poison Heal
EVs: 108 HP / 252 Atk / 12 SpD / 136 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Spore
- Superpower
- Seed Bomb
- Mach Punch

This is mostly the standard offensive loom set, with some EVs shifted from Spe into HP and SpD in order to improve its bulk. Loom on this team is used to switch into and threaten several counters for other team members, such as pert, ttar and hippo, as well as wallbreak with its strong, STAB boosted, superpower and seed bomb. Loom can also use spore to sleep one of its counters, such as lati or rotom, which can often be taken advantage of by one of the ddancers for a free setup. Finally, it acts as this team's primary check to ddance ttar via mach punch. in terms of EVs, 136 Spe allows loom to outspeed min speed cune while 252+ Atk maximises its damage output. For bulk, 108 HP hits a poison heal number, while the remaining 12 EVs are put into SpDef to slightly improve loom's performance against moves such as pert's ice beam.

starmie.png

Ramiel (Starmie) @ Colbur Berry
Ability: Natural Cure
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 136 HP / 156 Def / 216 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Surf
- Thunder Wave
- Rapid Spin
- Recover

Starmie provides rapid spin and para support for the team, as well being the switch-in to fire types. Colbur berry is used here to allow mie to (semi) safely para scarf ttar on the switch and then switch out itself. in terms of EVs, 216 Spe lets it outspeed mons such as gar and ape, while 136HP/156Def maximises its physical bulk.
(there really isn't that much to say here it's just a decently standard defensive mie set with colbur over lefties)

heatran.png

Hephaestus (Heatran) @ Choice Specs
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 20 HP / 84 Def / 186 SpA / 220 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 3 Atk / 30 Def / 30 SpA / 30 SpD / 30 Spe
- Overheat
- Flamethrower
- Dragon Pulse
- Hidden Power [Fighting]

Heatran acts as the switch in to most of the steel types, as well as a strong special wallbreaker. Overheat is tran's strongest STAB attack (barring eruption, which doesn't really work here) and can deal large amounts of damage, even to the mons that are meant to resist it. Flamethrower provides a secondary alternative to overheat that doesn't cause a SpA drop, while dragon pulse allows tran to deal significant damage to, or even outright KO lati, which will often switch into try to tank its overheat. HP Fighting allows tran to KO the other common switch in to its overheat, ttar, as well as hitting opposing tran for supereffective damage and a good chunk of the meta for neutral damage. In terms of EVs, 186 Spa allows tran to KO no-bulk lati with dragon pulse after rocks and sand, as well as 2HKO maximum special bulk ttar with HP fighting, while 220 Spe allows it to outspeed max positive speed ttar. For bulk, 20 HP reaches a rock number, while the remaining EVs are put into Def to reduce the chip from the common physical attacks it will be switching into such as rachi's iron head and scizor's bullet punch.

tyranitar.png

Tyr (Tyranitar) @ Shuca Berry
Ability: Sand Stream
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Crunch
- Earthquake
- Ice Punch
- Dragon Dance

Tyranitar is the first ddance sweeper on the team, and has good synergy with Gyara, as it's able to set up on scarfed mons such as lati and rotom that gyara forced into using tbolt. Depending on the opponent's team, ttar can either act as the primary sweeper for the team, or as a secondary sweeper, weakening the common responses to ddance sweepers for gyara to then sweep itself, Shuca Berry+ Ice Punch lends itself to this, allowing ttar to bait in and KO scarf gon, as well as act as a check to DD nite. The EVs for ttar maximise its speed and attack, while the remaining 4 EVs are put into HP for the very slight improvement in general bulk.

gyarados.png

Splash (Gyarados) @ Leftovers
Ability: Intimidate
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Waterfall
- Earthquake
- Stone Edge
- Dragon Dance

Gyarados is the second ddance sweeper on the team, and can also fill a more defensive role against physical attackers due to intimidate, although this can drain its HP fairly quickly. Gyara complements ttar well by acting as a secondary check to scizor, as well as being able to set up on scarf gon locked into EQ and scarf ttar locked into superpower. For the moves, Waterfall and EQ are standard coverage, while sedge lets gyara act as a check to opposing DD gyara, as well as threatening zapdos, gyara's only counter that isn't fully managed by another member of the team. The EV spread once again maximises gyara's speed and attack with the remaining 4 put into HP for bulk.
