5th gen OU team.

::Introduction::

Ok so i am pretty experienced with the 5th gen metagame at the time. I have been playing 5th gen for months and consider myself pretty good, but I would like the critiques of other experienced players. From the experience of using this team, it is pretty good but as all teams, there are weaknesses. I wanted to build this team off the Skarmory Latias core from Faladran's site.

Tyranitar @Chople Berry
Sassy Nature
252 HP - 252 Sp.D - 4 Sp.Attk
-Stealth Rocks
-Pursuit
-Fire Blast
-Superpower

I used to run a more offensive set until it was brought to my attention that I was slightly latios weak. I tested this team a little more and I found that to be a problem, so I went for a more Sp.Def set instead of the spread I use to run. After testing for only a couple of battles I realized my latios weakness was pretty much gone. With this set I can take more surfs from the standard specs latios. Since I battle generally smart players on the smogon server, they knew better than to switch out so I had to take a couple surfs because pursuit is a 2 hit kill and with this spread I can.

Skarmory @Leftovers
Impish Nature
252 HP - 228 Def - 28 Spd
-Spikes
-Roost
-Whirlwind
-Brave Bird

Ahhhh Skarmory. This thing walls a lot of physical threats in the game as well as setting up spikes and racking up damage with whirlwind. With all the hazards on this team I have been trying to fit in a spinner because this team needs hazards to function at its full potential, but I have not been able to fit one it. Suggestions are welcome.

Latias @Leftovers
Timid Nature
252 HP - 4 Sp.Def - 252 Spd
-Calm Mind
-Dragon Pulse
-Roar
-Roost

This thing handles everything Skarmory Can't. Electric type attacks, fire type attacks and most things that like to come in on skarm. Late game sweeps are this things hobby, as well as shuffling to rack up more damage with hazards. Latias covers Celebi, Rotom, walls Heatran and just tanks hits really well. I use this pokemon kind of like a suicune in gen 4.

Rotom-W @Choice Scarf
Timid Nature
252 Sp. Attk - 252 Spd - 4 Sp.Def
-Volt Switch
-Hydro Pump
-Hidden Power [Grass]
-Trick

Rotom is an all around great pokemon. Since the banishment of excadrill I no longer have that revenge killer that I love. So now I have to go back to running scarfers, and rotom makes a great choice. I decided on HP grass instead of HP fire because I could either cripple ferrothorn with a scarf or volt switch out to the approprie counter. This way I am not completely walled by gastrodon.

images

Scizor @Leftovers
Adamant Nature
252 HP - 40 Attk - 216 Sp.D
-Bullet Punch
-Swords Dance
-Bug Bite
-Roost

So this used to be a choice banded set before i changed my rotom set and didn't feel comfortable running 3 choice users in todays metagame. Scizor has so many opportunities to set up and sweep teams do to its great typing. -2 latios is usually the one to start the demolishment of this beast. For gliscor, toxic gliscor is screwed because +4 bullet punch is gonna rip though gliscor. But then again no one uses toxic gliscor. For SD Gliscor alot of time scizor can win the SD war and proceed to sweep. But I usually only do this when rotom is down or the rest of the opponents team gets wrecked by scizor.

Terrakion @Choice Band
Jolly Nature
4 HP - 252 Attk - 252 Spd
-Close Combat
-Stone Edge
-X-Scissor
-Quick Attack

I used to have this as my scarfer and rotom using specs, but when I was suggested to use banded terrakion and scarf rotom I tested it out and it works alot better. This things tremendous power decimates teams and even gets late game sweeps once you have disposed of everything faster. Quick Attack has great use for killing that one faster pokemon that has low health. Terrakion also goes great with the skarmory latias core because of the mix tyranitar weakness. Great pokemon.

Your Latias gets burnt by the ever popular CB Scizor.Scizor can easily pursuit or get a free U-turn.

I would recommend Hidden Power Fire which does around 80% to standard Scizor. So after two stealth rock switch-ins or one stealth rock+spikes switch-in, it will kill the scizor.

I would replace it over roar.

or instead u can the LO Latios, with draco meteor, HP FIRE, surf, and recover. Excellent coverage and DM rips through the game

Your team is already fairly defensive as you stated and SpecsRotom works great with Sandstorm teams causing many switches with Volt Switch and gaining momentum as well.

Rotom-W @ Choice Specs -- 252 Special Attack / 4 Special Defense / 252 Speed -- Timid Nature
- Thunderbolt / Volt Switch
- Hydro Pump
- Hidden Power Fire or Ice
- Trick

Good luck.

im kinda on the fence about to choice users so i might try a sd scizor with this set idk. thanks!

Changes:

specs rotom. after testing this thing works wonders

SD scizor. didnt want to run 2 choicers and out of the testing i have done this thing sweeps like a broom as well as keeping the priority there if i need it

Good team! Seriously look at the other ppl here...
But...
I would give scizor life orb. It's too easy to switch in a faster fire type to resist the StAB and bulletpunch will stay in and do as much as possible.

Also you have 216 spd, which means speed, I think you mean 216 SpD, which is special defense. I'm sure you knew that :)

On escadrille, the primary use of the air balloon is to avoid spikes for am easy rapid spin. If you are using frustration, I would recommend life orb. Its weak to really common attacks so the point is t the same it is on say.. Heatran. So either give it life orb or rapid spin

All this was IMO, good luck with the team!

Hey, this is a pretty nice team. You seem to have most threats covered very well, and with a few smaller changes, I think this team could be very effective. One of your only potential problems is that you have a slight Latios weakness. Tyranitar is 2HKOed by specs surf and Scizor, although it will not fear any of Latios' attacks bar hp fire, has no way to trap Latios. I think that if you simply shift your Tyranitar's ev spread to 252 HP / 4 SpA / 252 SpDef with your current set, you would do much better. Skarmory and Ferrothorn are still comfortably 2HKOed by fire blast, even with minimal special attack investment, and Tyrnaitar will be able to pursuit trap specs Latios with ease.

I would actually consider running choice banded Terrakion on this team as well. Choice banded Terrakion fits in with your team perfectly, being able to lure in threats such as Skarmory and Gliscor, and 2HKO or at least damage them to an extent where Scizor can sweep easier later in the match. Choice banded Terrakion also works excellently with Latias and spikes, being able to abuse spikes easily along with Latias to make sure they go hand in hand. If you really do not feel comfortable losing a team member that can revenge kill a myriad of threats on this team, I would simply scarf Rotom-W. This way, you have an excellent choice scarf user along with a team member that lures in and breaks down more defensively inclined threats so that Scizor can clean up weakened teams later on. gl.

Terrakion @ Choice Band
Jolly 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe Justified
Close Combat / Stone Edge / X-Scissor / Quick Attack

Rotom-W @ Choice Scarf
Modest 196 HP / 144 SpA / 168 Spe Levitate
Volt Switch / Hydro Pump / Hidden Power [Fire] / Trick
