Hey guys, this is my first RMT so please bare with me if it's not perfect right from the outset. My idea for this team is simple: set up hazards and continue to phaze. However my problem is that with so much offense from Victini, Kyurem, etc, I can't seem to get set up quick enough. So I ask for any tips, suggestions and criticism you may have. Thanks in advance.
Team building process:
I wanted to build around Deoxys-D, as I've never had a team with it and I've always wanted to. I had in mind to use the Red Card/Recycle trick that I saw once and thought would be fun.
Next I needed a fast, secondary hazard layer in case Deoxys failed as well as one that could provide some good immunities and spinblocking. Enter Froslass.
I brought Espeon in because it bounced back hazards, set up screens, and provided some strong offense as well.
I selected Throh because on one hand, I really like his design and his bulky fighting-type status. Secondly, I wanted to use Circle Throw to act as a secondary phazer.
Milotic was added to be my bulky water and third phazer with Dragon Tail. I selected the RestTalk set as it would maximize both its longevity and annoyance factor.
Nidoking was my last addition to the team. With Sheer Force and a Life Orb, Nidoking can fire off of an effective 125 base Sp. Atk with great coverage moves. Also, it can absorb Toxic Spikes in case my opponent managed to get them in.
In-Depth Look:
Deoxys-D @ Red Card
Trait: Pressure
EVs: 252 HP/36 Def/220 Sp.D
Impish Nature (+Def, -Sp.A)
- Stealth Rock
- Recover
- Recycle
- Seismic Toss
Deoxys is more often than not my lead. It lays down rocks and starts the show. I use Seismic Toss until my opponent attacks me, being phazed out with Red Card. Recycle is used to gain the card back, and Recover is used when health is dropping.
Frosslass (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Snow Cloak
EVs: 252 HP/252 Spe/4 Sp.A
Timid Nature (+Spe, -Atk)
- Spikes
- Ice Beam
- Taunt
- Destiny Bond
I try to bring Froslass in on a resisted or immune attack and then either lay hazards down or Taunt to stop a set-up or enemy hazards from getting up. Ice Beam is there for STAB and to not be fully Taunt-bait and Destiny Bond is for when I feel like it's time is running out and should take one last poke down with it.
Espeon (M) @ Light Clay
Trait: Magic Mirror
EVs: 252 HP/252 Spe/4 Sp.A
Timid Nature (+Spe, -Atk)
- Reflect
- Light Screen
- Psychic
- HP Fighting
Standard double-screener. I like to put it in when there's an obvious Taunt or hazard coming, but that's not always what happens. Psychic is there for STAB and HP Fighting is for coverage, but I'm considering Shadow Ball in its place.
Throh (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Guts
EVs: 252 HP/252 Sp.Def/4 Def
- Circle Throw
- Bulk Up
- Toxic
- Payback
I really rely on Throh for a lot. He's my dark resist, status inducer and second phazer. I use Bulk Up against a physical attacker or if I don't perceive the opposing poke as an imminent threat. Toxic is to induce status and used against pokes who would want to wall as well as put pressure on the opponent to switch. Payback is for coverage against Ghosts who are immune to Circle Throw and works well with Throh's below-average speed.
Milotic (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Marvel Scale
EVs: 252 HP/252 Def/4 Sp.A
Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Dragon Tail
- Scald
- Rest
- Sleep Talk
Milotic acts as my third phazer, status absorber and general bulky water. Scald is for STAB and the 30% chance of burn and Dragon Tail is there of course to phaze. Rest works well with Marvel Scale, giving a 50% boost to its defense while sleeping and Sleep Talk is there to enable me to attack while sleeping.
Nidoking @ Life Orb
Trait: Sheer Force
EVs: 252 Sp.A/252 Spe/4 HP
Timid Nature (+Spe, -Atk)
- Earth Power
- Flamethrower
- Thunderbolt
- Ice Beam
Nidoking acts as a sort of stop-gap for the rest of my team. If I come across a poke that is giving me a hard time I'll send him in to KO or threaten with his generally super-effective coverage moves. With LO and Sheer Force, he has an effective base 125 Sp.Atk stat and can still change moves. Also his poison typing means that he could absorb Toxic Spikes should the situation ever arise.
Problems with my team:
I seem to fall victim to the more offensive teams out there. Victini is a huge problem with V-Create smashing everything except Milotic to pieces, who then has to deal with Wild Charge. Kyurem is also a problem with its unresisted stabs amongst my team and high attacking stats. Chansey can also be a thorn in my side, as if Throh is gone then all I have left really is phazing and Special Attacks, with Chansey just laughs at.
Well there's my team. Hope I posted a decent RMT and I'm looking forward to your thoughts, rates, comments and critiques. Thanks a lot!
