A bizzare matchup, UU team

Odd story about this team, I had just finished raiseing my luxray and wanted to give him a "test drive", so I picked out this team almost completly at random, without going for the usual UUs I use (e.g ninetales, steelix, rapidash) and opting for these rather oddly matching pokemon. I then faced several OU teams and thought suddenly, hey this works.
The pokemon complimented each other beautifuly in those matchs, I know that that wont happen every time, but this team did seem rather effective. So here it is, seeking opinions and any improvements.

Purugly@ Life Orb
Jolly nature 252Atk 252Spd
Fake out
Hypnosis
Body Slam
Shadow Claw
The lead, always the lead. The brilliant speed of purugly and its use of hypnosis make it an excellent pokemon in my book.
It normally will use hypnosis right of the bat, fake out only being incredibly useful later when poison starts to spread.
The reason for body slam is sort of a pseudo double status, if my opponent switchs the chance of paralasis even on ground types is very nice.

Nidoqueen@ Leftovers
Relaxed nature 252HP 216Def 40Atk
Toxic Spikes
Ice beam
Fire Blast
Earthquake
My main tank, works brilliantly at absorbing hits, especially fighting types(close combat barely makes a dent, even from some of the stronger pokemon). Toxic spikes gives the opponent something to really worry about, as lots of spinners take super effective hits from Nidoqueen.
405-m.png

Luxray@ Choice Band
Adamant nature 252Atk 176Spd 80HP
Spark
Crunch
Superpower
Quick Attack
The closest thing to a sweeper here. With the choice band slapped on his attack stat reaches 550+, even with the lower base power of spark and quick attack he can do major damage on unresistant foes.
Quick attack is a really nasty serprise for those defensively flimsey sweepers.
186-f.png

Politoad@ Leftovers
Calm Nature 252HP 252SpDef 6SpAtk
Surf
Toxic
Hypnosis
Refresh
My main specail defense pokemon. Toxic allows him to take on bulky waters, coupled with refresh stopping thier attempts to poison him back. Hypnosis can work as a double status if the opponent switchs out. With only surf his offense does look a little lacking, but most steels types that stop toxic wont like surf.
195-m.png

Quagsire@ Leftovers
Impish Nature 252HP 96Atk 160Def
Earthquake
Stone edge
Yawn
Protect
My bulky ground/water, takes hits like a champ. Yawn/protect is a good combo for imobiliseing somone (and for squezing out another turn of leftovers recovery). The absence of toxic on this set is because by the time this guy will be in the fight toxic spikes and politoad will have spread poison quite alot already.

Illumise@ Leftovers
Modest Nature 252SpAtk 252Spd 6HP
Bug Buzz
Wish
Thunder Wave
Protect
An odd addition I know, but since I lack recovory on all my pokemon baring leftovers a wish user is quite a good idea.Thunder wave is very useful for slowing pokemon down enough to be squashed by my tanks.
And bug buzz makes illumise a good pokemon for finishing off weakend opponents.

Great team. One thing that I might change is the amount of status moves on your team. You already have a lead Purugly w/hypnosis, and toxic spikes from Queen. T-wave really isnt too nessarcy on illumise, i would put hp ground for opposing luxray, aggron, bastioon ect. Also consider Wish Hypno as a possible replacement for poli or illumise.

Clefable can stall better than Illumise with the some moveset except Bug Buzz.
You also have some Specs Venusaur problems (Can OHKO everyone in your team with STAB Leaf Storm, even Illumise is OHKOed 87% of the time after SR), so you could try Jumpluff over Illumise, as Jumpluff can help your theme of residual damage with Leech Seed.

A lot of your Pokemon's movesets are weird and aren't taking advantage of their potential. However, that's easily fixed by rating, so we're in luck! ^_^

Also, you seem to be using NU Pokemon for the sake of using NU Pokemon... and if that's the case, you won't find many friends here.
So forgive me if I advocate changing a lot of your Pokemon... it's what I do.
------------------------

Purugly brings nothing to the table that Persian can't do with the same set. The only added advantage that Purugly has is that it is slightly (and I do mean SLIGHTLY) more powerful than its feline counterpart. But you're not running any kind of Choice Band set that takes advantage of it. You're not even running a +Atk nature.

Because of this, I highly recommend changing Purugly to Persian. It can run the exact same set, only leagues better.

Persian (M) @ Life Orb
Ability: Technician
EVs: 4 HP/252 Atk/252 Spd
Jolly nature (+Spd, -SAtk)
- Return
- Bite
- Fake Out
- Hypnosis

That is the set you should be running. And to be fair, Persian actually does more damage even with the lower Atk stat because Base Power of moves matters far more than the Atk score of a Pokemon. Bite has 30 more BP than Shadow Claw, and Fake Out scores an extra 30 versus Purugly's Fake Out too (thanks to Technician). In fact, Persian will be doing on average 1.5X more damage than Purugly even though Purugly has 12 more Base Atk. There's just no contest between the two.

---------------------------

Nidoqueen's most popular switch-ins are bulky waters... of which your two Special attacks will do nothing to them. I'd like to see you replace the two Special attacks with Rest and Sleep Talk. This lets you use Nidoqueen for longer than you can at the moment. Furthermore, it allows Nidoqueen to heal after taking down Hitmonlee (It will be on low health if it takes a Close Combat followed be an Earthquake).

----------------------------

Hypnosis is largely redundant on your Politoed. You already have a sleep inducer in Persian, and you don't need another. Furthermore, you're attempting to hit grounded Pokemon with Toxic Spikes, and flying ones with Toxic. Putting your opponent's Pokemon to sleep should be the last thing you want to do. I'd like to see Ice Beam or Hidden Power Electric put in over this slot.

----------------------------

As Xenon pointed out, I worry about your Specs Venusaur weakness. It doesn't even need to use any attack barring Leaf Storm... it just comes in, uses Leaf Storm, and guarantees that one of your Pokemon die. There's no prediction involved, it just happens.

I'm also concerned about leaving your Wishing duties to Illumise. It's not the most bulky thing in the world and has trouble actually pulling the pass off. I'd like to see Illumise replaced by a Flareon actually. The insurance against Venusaur is definitely warrented, as is the extra switch-in to Glaceon who also has its way with your team. It also adds another Pokemon who can spread the Toxic around to Levitators and Flying types if Politoed is unable to do so.

Flareon (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 252 HP/4 SAtk/252 SDef
Calm nature (+SDef, -Atk)
- Lava Plume
- Toxic
- Wish
- Protect

This is a much better candidate for wish passing, as well, you said the primary recipients of Wishes would be Politoed... who resists Flareon's main weakness, Water. It's a match made in heaven!

---------------------------

I worry making any more changes to the team would open up unforseen weaknesses, so tell me how those changes work and I'll get back to you! ^_^

I'm also concerned about leaving your Wishing duties to a Pokemon 4X weak to Stealth Rock.

Illumise is not 4x weak, it is pure Bug type, no flying.
But yes, Flareon fills that role better.

Well quick thing, this team is ingame so I cant use wish hypno and I dont like breeding for hidden powers much (It drives me more insane than usual).

Illumise was the pokemon I would want to replace most so flareon does sound like a good idea. That will be taken into consideration. Especially since it spooks grass types alot.

I could put ice beam over hypnosis, but I have used both moves (hypnosis and toxic) in the same battle on politoad. So I think I wil playtest him a bit more first.

Also a little thing, I dont use restalk...ever. I dont care what you say about it, I hate reliyng on a very luck based attack as my luck sucks.
So I think I will keep nidoqueen as is, toxic spikes is quite a good way of dealing with bulky waters, even if she has to swich out.

Hmmm, I see that persion is stronger. But Purugly is almost my mascot I use it so much :p, and it has managed to sweep 0-3 for me in the past, I think I will test persion, but purugly is still in my favour here.

Thanks for the advice tohugh. Now i just have to find that cam Eevee thats hidden in my box somewhere :p.

I think you mnderstand the beauty of Rest / Sleep Talk. It's not that you're RELYING on the Sleep Talk hitting, in fact the very opposite. You're bulky enought that you don't NEED it to hit the right move really... ever. The beauty of Rest / Sleep Talk comes from the fact that there is a CHANCE that you will hit the right move, which will cause your opponent to switch. Even a low chance is still too much of a chance for the majority of opponenets.

------

Also, just for future reference, if you're not willing to make the changes in a team because you "love this pokemon more than any other pokemon because it's pretty much your mascot even though other Pokemon do the same job but better," then prepare to have people stop rating your teams.

I still wont use restalk. Every single time I have ever used it I got demolished, even by computor controlled opponents. There is no way I am ever useing it again.

Also purugly does have some benifits over persian. It can actually take a single hit, something persian cannot do (especialy against ice and fire attacks).
Also I said in my first post I liked puruglys ability to psudo double status with body slam.
