MY FIRST DECENT TEAM
Overview
THE TEAM
Hippowdon @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Sand Stream
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 52 Def / 200 SpD
Careful Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Earthquake
- Slack Off
- Rock Slide
My lead Pokemon is Hippowdon and its role in my team is a Weather/Setter. It also has a lot of bulk which allows it to fill the position of defensive wall. It can also take a Draco Meteor and then Slack Off. I need it on my team because I have Sand Rush Excadrill. Stealth Rock lets me set up hazards while I run Rock Slide do deal with any flying type Pokemon after Zeraora is dead. Rocky Helmet allows Hippowdon to do damage to Pokemon that are physical attackers that resist EQ and Rock Slide.
Excadrill @ Leftovers
Ability: Sand Rush
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Earthquake
- Swords Dance
- Iron Head
- Rapid Spin
My second Pokemon is Sand Rush Excadrill. I use this as my Speed/Wallbreaker because Sand Rush gives it 2x speed in sand and I run a SD + EQ + RS Set because all teams need a spinner, and when outside of sand, it can get a speed boost with RS. I run Swords Dance because a +1 Earthquake Excadrill can do somewhere around 50% to a Ferrothorn, which makes it a wallbreaker. Leftovers allows Excadrill to slowly regain health while dealing heavy damage.
Toxapex
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Baneful Bunker
- Recover
- Scald
- Haze
I use Toxapex as another wall. I use the basic Toxapex set with Haze to plow through set-up sweepers which are a huge threat to my team. I have no item on Toxapex due to Belly Drum Azumarill being a huge threat to my team. Having no item allows it to stay up for one hit but it's a guarantee 2HKO. Baneful Bunker allows me to poison any physical attackers and get that small chip damage on them.
Volcarona @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Flame Body
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Quiver Dance
- Fiery Dance
- Psychic
- Giga Drain
Volcarona is another sweeper on my team and it fulfills the role of Special Sweeper. Since I have Excadrill and Zeraora for physical attacks, I need a special sweeper, to OHKO Pokemon like Ferrothorn, which are generally hard to take out. I run a basic Volcarona set with QD, Fiery Dance, Giga Drain, and Psychic. If I swap into something that's weak to Volcarona, like Ferrothorn, they will most likely swap out to not get OHKO'd which gives me a free Quiver Dance. That QD will allow be to deal heavy damage and OHKO a few Pokemon while also outspeeding them. Heavy-Duty Boots prevents Volcarona from taking hazard damage, which stacks up over time.
Zeraora @ Life Orb
Ability: Volt Absorb
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Plasma Fists
- Knock Off
- Close Combat
- Volt Switch
Zeraora fulfills the Speed role on my team with a massive 423 Speed stat, which outspeeds other incredibly fast Pokemon, such as Dragapult and Barraskewda. I use Knock Off in order to kill Dragapult because Zeraora outspeeds Dragapult if it doesn't have any stat boosts. Close Combat allows me to deal with annoying Special Walls, namely Blissey but also Single-Strike Urshifu. Volt Switch allows me to use Zeraora not only as a Speed Pokemon, but also as a Pivot. I use Life Orb just to boost my attacks since I have a Jolly Nature, not Adamant.
Mandibuzz (F) @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Overcoat
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Impish Nature
- Foul Play
- Roost
- Defog
- U-turn
Mandibuzz is my final Pokemon, because, well Mandibuzz. (That would kind of explain everything you need to know, but this RMT would get locked, so Imma go into a bit more detail. Mandibuzz walls almost everything except its weaknesses, but it can take a Rock Slide from SS Urshifu, which only did 22%-26% in a battle. I have Defog in case Excadrill is dead. U-turn can be used in place of Volt Switch if Zeraora is weak to the opposing Pokemon. Heavy-Duty Boots makes sure Mandibuzz doesn't take damage from Hazards, especially Stealth Rocks, which do a decent amount to due Mandibuzz's Flying typing.
Conclusion
I played with this team a lot and the highest I got to 1250. I just wanted some feedback on this team because it was the best one that I made that got me so high (not at all) on the ladder. It's kind of a balance team that has good synergy (I think) and relatively good typing.
