Hi guys, I'm Crypto. This is my first RMT, and just testing the waters. The team is nothing special and quite likely very generic. Just looking for criticism on the formatting and the team itself, I guess. Without any futher ado, let's get started!
At A Glance
Team Building Process
When I first started making the team, I wanted to make something stall based. Because of the lack of rocks, I can switch as much as I like predicting tons of attacks and taking very little damage.
My friend Shellshocker told me about this Parashuffler Dragonite set, and so I decided to make a rain team. Obviously Multiscale and Sandstorm don't mix very well. I've played a lot of Sun Stall in the past so I didnt' want to do that either. So my first two mons are Dragonite and Politoed.
I wanted something that would pair up with Dragonite well, so I picked Ferrothorn. It resists Dragon and Rock, which Dragonite is weak to.
Next I needed some Wish support for Ferrothorn and Politoed. I chose Jirachi, as it has some very solid offensive capabilities to take out some dangerous sweepers and can get Calm Minds up to sweep itself, while providing Wish for the team.
Next I wanted something specially defensive to take Ice Beams, so I picked Jellicent. I decided to run Taunt to stop opposing mons from statusing my team or setting up.
Lastly I wanted something physical that could set up, to work with Rachi. Rachi’s attacks are Thunder and Psyshock, so it gets totally walled by Celebi, so I decided on Scizor. Scizor has some decent bulk, can set up Swords Dance to deal a lot of damage and Roost to help stall.
The Team!
Politoed @ Leftovers
Trait: Drizzle
EVs: 252 Def / 252 HP / 4 SAtk
Bold Nature
- Scald
- Ice Beam
- Encore
- Toxic
Aside from just setting up rain, Politoed is an immense asset to the team. It’s Encore can cripple lead setup sweepers like Cloyster, Ice Beam shreds lead Garchomp, and Toxic allows you to wear down foes by tanking their attacks with ease until they die. There’s not really a whole lot to say about Politoed. I usually send out Politoed turn 1 if they have no weather on their team. If they have Ninetales, I will generally be slower so my rain will go up and I can force it out. Politoed doesn’t particularly like being up against Tyranitar which is why Scizor and Ferrothorn are there. There are lots of options for Politoed on a stall team, such as Perish Song over Encore, or Protect over Ice Beam. I might eventually run Protect over Ice Beam as I don’t use it very much, and it helps Toxic stall.
Ferrothorn @ Leftovers
Trait: Iron Barbs
EVs: 252 HP / 48 SDef / 204 Def / 4 Atk
Impish Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Thunder Wave
- Leech Seed
- Power Whip
Ferrothorn is INCREDIBLY useful on this team. Rocks break the sashes on several threats such as Terrakion and Cloyster. Thunder Wave cripples so many Pokemon and supports Dragonite’s parashuffling. Leech Seed in conjunction with Leftovers allows it to independently get health back without requiring wish support. Power Whip is a bit of a filler, allowing me to kill Gastrodon and other water special walls. Nothing surprising here either, pretty standard but incredibly effective set.
Jellicent @ Leftovers
Trait: Water Absorb
EVs: 248 HP / 8 Def / 252 SDef
Calm Nature
- Scald
- Will-O-Wisp
- Taunt
- Recover
Again, no surprises here. Scald is there for STAB, allowing me to 2 hit many fire types that Jellicent walls to absolute death. Wisp can be useful, as Jellicent is specially defensive, but I might swap it out for Toxic, as that way I can stall out mons with healing. However, Taunt prevents opponents from using Recover and other healing moves, so I might not need to do that. Despite being very slow, Taunt can be really great if you predict a switch (which occurs a lot against stall teams), and can stop Dragon Dancers from setting up. Recover lets you take hits all day. Ferro takes Electric and Grass moves that threaten you, so they have great synergy, as Jellicent takes Fighting and Fire moves that threaten Ferrothorn.
Dragonite @ Leftovers
Trait: Multiscale
EVs: 252 HP / 252 SDef / 4 Def
Careful Nature
- Substitute
- Thunder Wave
- Roost
- Dragon Tail
The star of the show. I absolutely ADORE this set, it is so scarily effective and so hard to deal with. Abusing Multiscale to the absolute maximum, and hiding behind Subs that can be so hard to break. This thing walls so many Pokemon, such as Volcarona, Alakazam, Celebi – basically any Special attacker without an Ice move. Once they are paralysed, you can keep roosting and subbing until they get fully paralysed, then you can hit them with Dragon Tail. Spikes helps, but isn’t really necessary. Once you have full HP and a Substitute up, you’re basically invincible. You can keep subbing, roosting, and Dragon Tailing to your heart’s content. This set would be crazy if you had Rocks up, but it doesn’t really need it to wreak incredible amounts of havoc. Even with 0 attack investment and 60 base power, coming off that 134 base attack, Dragon Tail does a surprising amount of damage.
Scizor @ Life Orb
Trait: Technician
EVs: 252 HP / 40 Atk / 216 SDef
Adamant Nature
- Swords Dance
- Roost
- Bullet Punch
- Bug Bite
I don’t switch into Scizor a whole lot. I don’t really have to, with Ferrothorn around. But he is very useful for getting rid of some big threats, such as Terrakion, Kyurem-B, Latios, Latias, Reuniclus, the list goes on. It has some very good bulk allowing it to take big hits such as Specs Draco Meteor and get a free Swords Dance or OHKO with Bug Bite. Roost allows it to negate that Life Orb recoil and stay alive for an absurd amount of time. Scizor is really really good late game, and has saved quite a few games for me.
Jirachi @ Leftovers
Trait: Serene Grace
EVs: 252 HP / 236 Def / 20 Spd
Bold Nature
- Calm Mind
- Wish
- Thunder
- Psyshock
Jirachi is really amazing on this team. It provides Wishes to Politoed and Ferrothorn, who can’t heal themselves as readily as the others, and takes care of some very dangerous threats. Once it has a few Calm Minds up, barring a crit, nothing can kill it. Psyshock and Thunder have a lot of coverage and dessimate many powerful pokemon. I really love this Jirachi, it’s saved my butt countless times.
Notable Threats
~WIP~
Conclusion
I guess this team could do with a cleric of some kind, because if Dragonite gets statused or one of the stallers gets toxic'd it's hard to deal with. I originally designed this as a OU (No Stealth Rock) team, so it doesn't have a spinner. I might swap out Jellicent for Tentacruel so that I can have a spinner that is also specially bulky.
I know it’s a very generic team, but it’s a lot of fun and can be very hard to deal with. This is my first RMT, so please give me criticism! Thanks for reading!
