A Dream Brought To Reality; 'Making the Transition'

I recently decided I wanted to start playing in OU meta rather than DW, So I simply switched a couple abilities changed some movesets to accomdate for this and thought I could hop right in.

I was horribly mistaken.

After a about a dozen games I has only won a couple with some luck, my rank was barely under 5000 and i was just really not doing good at all, tried making a couple changes to no avail, in my frustration I scrapped the team and began attempting create new teams.

For weeks I struggled creating teams, and nothing seemed to satisfy me, the only team that ever worked for me was my old Dream World team. So I thought, maybe switching the team over with little to no change just wasn't going to cut it.

So I come to you Smogon, with my old Dream of a team, and ask for your suggestions.

OmegaMK.II (Metagross) @ Air Balloon Trait: Clear Body
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 SDef
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Stealth Rock
- ThunderPunch
- Bullet Punch
- Hammer Arm

Essentially my lead, almost a throwback to gen 4, get's SR up most of the time, and can even snag a few kills with Hammer Arm with all the TTar running around, T-punch for waters like Gayardos, Bullet Punch for some good Stab Priority to finish something off or to get some last damage in before he's inevitably taken out.

Now, I've had trouble deciding on an item, I began with Sash which worked well but wasn't convinced by someone to try the fire weakening berry, which did NOT work for me considering it's ground moves taking him out more often than fire, so I tried air balloon, and this works but I still feel sash was more effective, opinions here?

Other than Item suggestions, the moveset really works for me and I can't think of any better moves to run, Iron Head is good stab, but really has horrible coverage.

Rotom-W @ Leftovers Trait: Levitate
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Modest Nature (+SAtk, -Atk)
- Will-O-Wisp
- Hydro Pump
- Thunderbolt
- Pain Split

After the Removal of Metagross and Tentacruel, I still needed a reliable lead with good coverage and the ability to cripple those wishing to set-up (namely physical leads), this little guy has been outstanding. Great coverage, fast, and packs a punch. will-o-wisp has been great to end the usefulness of said physical attackers.

Only gripe here is the bulk, but everything comes at a pirce and if I play smart with Rotom-W I can avoid unfortunate OH-KO's

Moveset wise, I'm happy, although Hydro Pumps Accuracy is off putting, I'll slug it out and see if it's really as bad as I imagine. Also, Painsplit is helpful, but more often than not he isn't bulky enough to utilize it fully I feel. And Usually I don't get him into situation where it's useful anyways. But hey, I'll keep testing it out. But suggestions are welcome.

Bahamut (Salamence) (M) @ Lum Berry
Trait: Intimidate
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SAtk / 252 Spd
Naive Nature (+Spd, -SDef)
- Outrage
- Earthquake
- Dragon Dance
- Fire Blast

My physical sweeper, in DW he was moxie mence, which worked about as well as this does, I changed to Lum berry a while ago to make sure he got up a DD, because a paralyzed mence is almost deadweight, Lum berry also gets him out of confusion if he manages to luck his way out of a status. suggestions for other sets are very welcome. Flamethrower for it's reliability? I'd have to do a damage calc to figure this out, unless someone here knows statistics off the top of their head.

Not much else to say here.

StormKing (Volcarona) (M) @ Lum Berry
Trait: Flame Body
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Fiery Dance
- Quiver Dance
- Bug Buzz
- Hidden Power [Ground]

A controversial Special Sweeper, in my opinion, coupled with a spinner he can function just fine (refer to Tentacruel).

His first three moves are a no brainer, the third has been hopping around though. It began as psychic, until I realized most fighting/poison types would take plenty of damage from Fiery Dance and the only real threat psychic was needed for was keldeo, and he well, doesn't exist in OU, yet.

I opted for HP ground, I realize HP rock is the more favored of the two, but it lowers my speed IV to 30 making me (w/o a QD) lose speed ties against other volcarona and lose a few other speed ties.

Just like mence, I took Lum berry over LO curing him of statuses like toxic that would wear down the moth especially when coupled with toxic (he would get toxic'd a lot...), and even paralysis renders him nearly useless.

(As you can see, I hate status.)

I know a bunch of you are going to tell me to ditch this guy, but I've become rather fond of him, and think when he is used carefully, he can take out entire teams.

Ultros (Tentacruel) (M) @ Air Balloon
Trait: Liquid Ooze
EVs: 252 HP / 240 Def / 16 Spd
Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Rapid Spin
- Ice Beam
- Hidden Power [Fire]
- Scald

My spinner of choice, and most "up for debate" teammate. Since the switch from DW he's become more and more unhelpful.

With all the sand blowing around, even with air balloon, it seems he ends up eating an earthquake and kicking the bucket far too early in the game, leaving Volcarona compromised more often than not.

Also, leaving only one T-spikes up is almost helpful to the opponent, giving them immunity to much more harmful statuses.

HP fire let's him go head to head with other mons doing his job such as Ferro or Forry, which he does very well in this respect.

Suggestions wanted for this guy, change of set? Item? Spread? Even an entirely new spinner is welcome, if they can fit into the team and bring a little more than spinning to the team.

205.gif

Forretress (M) @ Leftovers Trait: Sturdy
EVs: 252 HP / 176 Def / 80 SDef
Relaxed Nature (+Def, -Spd)
- Rapid Spin
- Stealth Rock
- Spikes
- Gyro Ball

With the absense of Tentacruel, I needed a Spinner of course. Forry was the first I chose to step up to the plate. And without Metagross around, A way to set up hazards and spin was a god send. At first I was iffy about this guy but he's coming around, he can spin efficiently most of the time, and sets up SR easily w/ spikes here and there.

Only problem here is the inevitable HP fire runners, which I'm starting to become familiar with, but still can surprise me and put Forry down or out. Also, at the end of a match, he's dead weight, Tenta could fight back, but this guy, is really a one purpose mon, but maybe that's okay because he does his job well.

Moveset? I don't see what could possibly be changed, Gyro Ball works when it's needed and provides some sort of power, and all other moves are mandatory. Suggestions welcome, but I doubt there will be any.

Salika (Celebi) @ Life Orb
Trait: Natural Cure
EVs: 16 HP / 240 SAtk / 252 Spd
Modest Nature (+SAtk, -Atk)
- Hidden Power [Ice]
- Psychic
- Leaf Storm
- Thunder Wave

A counter to two mons than my team otherwise struggles with, Swampert and Breloom. Which, undoubtedly are far less common in OU for whatever reason giving him a little less to do. A littler bit different than the standard tinkerbell, but generally the same idea.

Although, he can go head to head with Hippowdon and take him out which is something else my team struggled with.

I feel a replacement might be needed here, but am at a loss to who could fill this niche role in my team. I'd want the new mon to spread paralysis for sure. Some support no doubt.

TylerDurden (Scrafty) (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Shed Skin
EVs: 252 HP / 8 Atk / 248 SDef
Careful Nature (+SDef, -SAtk)
- Drain Punch
- Crunch
- Bulk Up
- Rest

Truly the MVP on my team, Shed skin is a god send for this guy (and you know me and statuses...) without having to worry about status Scarfty can set up on so many mons. Walls and Stalls will try to wear him down with statuses, but it's futile when Shed Skin is curing that and before they know it he's at +6. I can't think of anything I would want changed for this guy. Does his job and does it well.

All in all, this is a team I just picked back up that needs to make some moderate to great change to stand a chance in Standard, and I'm looking for suggestions to help me on the way, i'd like to shy away from anything weather related or gimmicky.

Thanks!! I don't have time to post a threat list now, but i'll start working on it tomorrow!

How about a standard Ferrothorn over Celebi? Ferrothorn spreads status, still goes toe-to-toe with Hippowdon, and provides another valuable steel as well as a measure of security against rain teams. He also pairs fairly well with Tentacruel as between them they lay every type of entry hazard.

Omfg you're the one with that scrafty, I recognize the name. You beat me with it so hard a while ago I was just like wow (ps, it's bladeezz). I like you're team, sorry this isnt a more intricate rate or anything, just thought how I'd say that scrafty is really solid. Your team seems somewhat weak to Excadrill, as it can take out 5/6 members with SE moves (bar airb balloons) and the one poke who isn't hit SE is scrafty. If Salamanca goes down (intimdate) this thing could be pretty hard for you to stop.

I'd really hate to use Ferro, and I lose that counter to Breloom, not to mention a 4x weakness to fire is awful, not that I can disprove that Ferro is amazing, but it's another mon I kind of told myself I wouldn't use considering it's #1 on the charts. Sorry to nitpick.

Yeah, Excadrill can be a major pain, unless scrafty is at least part way set up he won't stand a chance, and if excadrill is set up already it's no contest.

Although, I know sashmons aren't counters, but if Gross has his sash intact, Hammer arm will 1HKO any excadrill.

But you're right, he is a problem (especially because so many more are running around OU than DW).

I'm open to a suggestion to fix this, although I've considered plenty of true and true excadrill counters and they just don't seem to fit in anywhere on the team.

An easy counter to excadrill is fighting priority and water priority (aqua jet, mach punch and vacuum wave)

Just a question, how do you deal to late game sweep excadrills, when your tentacruel and scrafty are koed?

^I really don't know, jds24 pointed that out too, I usually just try and make do with what I have, but in the sand with an SD under it's belt, it's game over for me.
