So I just finished EVing a ton of pokemon in my pokemon white game, so I decided to try to throw pokemon that could work well together into one team. So here's the result of some very poor teammaking. I really would like suggestions on what to replace/add.
The General Strategy:
Abuse Murkrow's perish trapping to allow Carracosta to finish off my opponent.
The Lead:
Dragonite (M) @Leftovers
Trait: Multiscale
EVs: 252 HP / 96 SDef / 160 Spe
Careful Nature (+SDef, -SAtk)
- Dragon Dance
- Roost
- Dragon Claw
- Earthquake
I'm not sure what set to put on my dragonite but I want dragonite on the team because dragonite's my favorite pokemon, and is also quite good. I'm thinking that maybe the parashuffler might work. This set has actually won me a game from the first turn before (with a different team, obviously), because my opponent wasn't expecting this set in the lead position but whatever. This is your standard bulky dragon dancer. Moving on..
Carracosta (F) @Life Orb
Trait: Solid Rock
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Jolly Nature (+Spd, -SAtk)
- Shell Smash
- Waterfall / Aqua Jet
- Rock Slide / Stone Edge
- Earthquake
Carracosta's my main sweeper. With a jolly nature, after one shell smash, it outspeeds base 113's by one point, I believe. Waterfall gets some nice STAB and really stings after a shell smash if you don't resist it, and the edgequake combo is simply amazing. I usually go with waterfall over aqua jet because carracosta usually comes out to finish my opponent off, so it rarely gets hit by a priority move. The question here is rock slide or stone edge. While Stone edge has 25 more base power, the 15 accuracy point drop decides the match at times, and I think rock slide might be the better option considering that carracosta's at 819 atk (factoring in life orb) already after the shell smash.
Murkrow (M) @Evolite
Trait: Prankster
EVs: 252 HP / 120 Def / 136 SpD
Sassy Nature (+SDef, -Spd)
- Perish Song
- Mean Look
- Roost
- Featherdance / Substitute
This is your standard perishtrapper murkrow, the main focus of this team. It just works. With substitute, I use Relaxed, because I need to make up for the loss of featherdance's attack drop. The reason for using sassy/relaxed is so gyro ball does less. Murkrow's really good at what it does, and that's why it's here.
Infernape (F) @Life Orb
Trait: Blaze
EVs: 252 Atk / 64 SpA / 192 Spe
Hasty Nature (+Spe, -SDef)
- Close Combat
- U-Turn
- Mach Punch
- Overheat
This is the physically based mix set from Gen IV, my favorite. Infernape goes really well with Carracosta due to its ability to take down grass types in general (but mainly ferrothorn), and it's my team's main solution for sand. Excadrill still causes problems, which is why i still consider aqua jet, but mach punch at least gives me a chance. If murkrow is still alive, fancy footing keeps me safe. I u-turn out as my opponent switches in. A -2 rock slide from LIFE ORB excadrill does 35.2% - 42%, which means it's only 3HKOing, and due to featherdance priority, i can land a featherdance before excadrill attacks. I finish it off if i play it right.
Reuniclus (M) @Leftovers
Trait: Magic Guard
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4SpD
Relaxed Nature (+Def, -Spd)
IVs: 0 Speed
- Calm Mind
- Recover
- Psychic
- Focus Blast
Reuniclus helps my team with conkeldurr, who would otherwise be a bitch. It can set up on it/the switch and proceed to kick ass like all reunicluses do. This is your standard CM+Recover set. Reuniclus partners well with carracosta and deals with sand pretty well.
Ferrothorn (M) @Leftovers
Trait: Iron Barbs
EVs: 252 HP / 48 Def / 208 SpD
Relaxed Nature (+Def, -Spd)
IVs: 0 Spd
- Spikes
- Leech Seed
- Gyro Ball
- Power Whip
Ferrothorn is, outside of opposing weather, rain's worst enemy and best friend. Ferrothorn IS my way of stopping rain. It's here to stop starmie especially and can set up hazards for murkrow, who scares people off, as well as infernape.
THREATS:
Weather is going to be a slight pain due to not having a weather changer of my own but that's what I get for not being good enough at dream world. I can see scizor being a potential problem as well, as it has bullet punch to take down carracosta and u-turn to fuck murkrow over.
The reason I don't know my team's weaknesses yet is because Pokemon Online has been mad glitchy recently and I can't battle/ get on any servers, so as many rates as possible would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for reading, and i hope you enjoyed reading my RMT!
