I haven't played Pokemon for almost a year, so I decided to make a new team starring my favorite Pokemon Charizard. The thought process was just to make a Mega Charizard Y team using Pokemon that were in my PC at the time. After playing quite a few matches on Wi-Fi, I haven't lost with this team and I really enjoy using it but, I feel it could use some improvements.
Charizard (M) @ Charizardite Y
Ability: Blaze
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Fire Blast/Flamethrower
- Solar Beam
- Earthquake
- Focus Blast/RoostThe leader of the team and my favorite Pokemon. It's a pretty standard Mega Charizard Y set aimed for Wall-Breaking and late-game sweeping. Fire Blast is the go to move as it does a huge chunk of damage to anything switching in. I have however been leaning towards using Flamethrower as I don't really get opportunities using Charizard as a Wall-Breaker in my past experiences. And when I do get the chance, I miss. :( So I'm thinking of switching it out due to me almost losing a couple of matches in ORAS Wi-Fi due to the misses. Earthquake is mainly for Heatran as it usuallly 2HKOs. Focus Blast is for T-Tar, but I can't recall ever getting a chance to actually use it so I was thinking of switching it out with Roost, but I run into the same problem of not having opportunities to use it.
Tyranitar (M) @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Sand Stream
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Crunch
- Pursuit
- Earthquake
- Stone EdgeT-Tar pairs up with Mega Charizard Y very well and is a huge part of this teams success. T-Tar is a awesome Pursuit trapper, getting rid of many threats for Charizard. T-Tar also provides sand for Excadrill which gives me more opportunities to sweep or get rid of entry hazards because of the speed boost from Sand Rush. There are also times where T-Tar can clean up late game when everything is weaken.
Garchomp (M) @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Rough Skin
EVs: 252 HP / 164 Def / 76 SpD / 16 Spe
Impish Nature
- Earthquake
- Stealth Rock
- Dragon Tail
- Fire BlastI have used Garchomp before but, I never used the TankChomp set that is getting popular now. The set wasn't a disappointment and it does its job well. The main job for Garchomp is to get the Rock Up and chip health away from physical attackers. The EVs are meant to help Garchomp take damage from both Physical and Special Attacks while having some extra speed to outrun Bisharp and Jolly T-Tar. Dragon Tail racks up entry hazard damage and messes up the opponent with force switch out. Fire Blast is for Steel Types that can wall Garchomp. Garchomp however was the last edition of the team and I feel like there are other Pokemon that can easily take his spot. I was strongly considering Heatran or Zapdos for this last spot, so I don't know if I'll keep Garchomp.
Slowbro (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 252 HP / 232 Def / 24 SpD
Bold Nature
- Scald
- Ice Beam
- Thunder Wave
- Slack OffOne of my favorite defensive Pokemon. Great stats + Slack Off + Regenerator + Leftovers = a tough Pokemon to take down. Scald is for STAB and hopefully burns. Ice Beam is here for taking down pesky dragons like Dragonite and Garchomp. Thunder Wave for crippling Pokemon that rely on speed. Other than that, pretty standard stuff.
Tangrowth (M) @ Assault Vest
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 248 HP / 8 Def / 252 SpD
Sassy Nature
- Leaf Storm/Giga Drain
- Knock Off
- Earthquake
- Sludge BombTangrowth was an odd choice but, I saw some potential in him and he hasn't disappointed me yet. Forming a Regenerator duo with Slowbro, the two together are tough to take down. I went with Leaf Storm for the damage output but I'm considering using Giga Drain for the heal that it provides. Knock Off is important for getting rid of items on annoying Pokemon and Earthquake provides good coverage. Sludge Bomb is mainly for Fairy Types and opposing Grass Types.
Excadrill (M) @ Air Balloon/Life Orb
Ability: Sand Rush
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Earthquake
- Iron Head
- Rock Slide
- Rapid SpinThe rapid spinner. Under a Sand Storm, it's almost impossible to outspeed this guy, which is why I love him on the team. Getting rid of stealth rocks is crucial for Charizard to be successful and this little guy helps a lot as he will usually get a rapid spin off since he threatens a lot of Pokemon. On occasion, Excadrill will get an opportunity to sweep or puncture holes in the other team with his high attack. I generally try to make sure the sand is up for Excadrill when he enters the field so he can pressure the team quite a bit under the sand.
That's the team. I would love any suggestion for the team as I haven't been keeping up with the meta as much so I would love any help.
