A noobs team. (OU)

For a month now I've been going through various versions of my own sandstorm stall type team, and made quite a few tweaks to it. Although it doesn't seem like its going anywhere, so I'm here to ask you guys for help. Constructive criticism is welcome <3 Long time lurker, but it doesn't seem like I get much help or ideas of my own from other RMTs.

Hippowdon@Leftovers
Ability: Sandstream
EV's: 252 HP/130 SpDef/122 Def
Impish nature
-Stealth rock
-Earthquake
-Slack off
-Roar

hippowdon works well as a lead, being able to set up rocks and get sandstorm going. Later in the game he is WONDERFUL at phazing and being annoyng racking up entry damage and setting up for heatran. It also lets me scout for counters to my main pokes, and think of something to take them out. Only problem this lead has is if it comes across the occasional aero, but they almost always taunt leaving me free to switch to something else.

Heatran@Choice scarf
Ability: Flash fire
EV's: 252 SpAtk/252 Speed
Modest nature
-Flamethrower
-Dragon pulse
-Hidden power electric
-Earth power

Heatran is the core to this team. After skarmory and hippowdon rack up entry damage by causing switches and roar/whirl winding, most pokes get weakened enough through rocks/spikes/toxic spikes that I can finish everything off by simply out speeding and wrecking them with heatrans monstrous special attack. Of course, a few counters exist to him that I'd have to take care of first though. But after that, you cant stop the ran when he gets going.

Lucario@Focus sash
Ability:Inner Focus
EV's: 252 Atk/ 252 Speed
Adamant nature
-Swords dance
-Extreme speed
-Close combat
-Crunch

Lucario is there in case heatran fails, or just to make things easy for him. If I can keep things clear of the field using rapid spin, lucario can come in easily after something dies and set up, especially if he can cause a switch thanks to sash. After that, I've chosen moves to give me obvious coverage over whats needed.

Skarmory@leftovers
Ability:Keen eye
EV's:252 HP/ 40 Atk/ 190 Def/ 24 Speed
Impish nature
-Spikes
-Whirlwind
-Brave Bird
-Roost

I f***in love skarmory. He's so useful, he takes hits from monsters who are trying to set up, and can just WW them out, or set up spikes on choice band pokemon who cant really hurt him, etc. I use brave bird because when skarmory attacks, I want him to have something strong to attack with. And he doesn't attack often, plus leftovers make up for a majority of the recoil usually. Although I'm a little scared of magnezone, so I'm thinking of using shed shell :S

dpmfa073.png

Tentacruel@Leftovers
Ability:Liquid Ooze
EV's:252 HP/ 130 Def/ 122 SpDef
Calm nature
-Knock off
-Toxic spikes
-Rapid spin
-Surf

Tentacruel is amazing. Knock off is so useful, its ridiculous. Its a move you cant really switch in on, or stay in to take because it can cripple so many pokemon. Toxic spikes are the main attraction to him though, because they can help me take out pests like curselax and blissey. Surf is there when it needs to attack.

dpffa380.png

Latias@leftovers
Ability:Levitate
EV's:252 HP/ 252 SpDef
Timid nature
-Reflect
-Light screen
-Wish
-Dragon pulse

Dual screener. Its timid nature because setting up the screen before something attacks me is always very useful, and helpful. Wish is sooo good. IT lets me heal my people who have no recovery moves, and if I can predict an attack coming at me, pash a wish to full health lucario, so he takes little damage switching in and the wish fixes the rest for me, so he can set up and sweep somewhat.

Threats

Bulky gyarados, mixape and mixmence, and Flygon seem to give me trouble. I dont have the attention to be able to pay attention to much else that bothers me though.

Wow, three steel types?? I really recommend taking 2 of them out. I would have to say Heatran and Skarmory. Or Heatran and Lucario.

ya 3 steels isnt good. a heatran completely destroys this team, expecially once it predicts ur switch to tran with earth power and kills it. dragon pulse for latias and fire moves for ur steels and it will also do a lot of damage to hippowdon. u need a good heatran counter....swampert? theres quite a few im sure u could find. hope i helped. and btw, pretty much any fire type kills ur team, infernape rapes u once latias and tentacruel are gone unless lucario has extreme speed.

Is this post a joke?

He has Latias, Light Screen, Tentacruel, his own Heatran, Hippowdon which can revenge non-specs versions, AND Sash Lucario. The only pokemon that cant beat Heatran 1-on-1 is Skarmory. How the hell does he have a Heatran problem?

His team is fine with the three Steel-types. As someone mentioned before, they do not all share common weaknesses. This is what you get when you use the Marriland resistance/weakness chart instead of common sense when trying to rate teams.

Your team is extremely weak to any Salamence that has Roost. I could see a Draco Meteor/Fire Blast/EQ/Roost mence sweeping this team easily. Even Outrage variants will beat this team handily because of Latias' slow EV spread. Gyarados poses a similar problem. I would first suggest changing Lucario from Sash to a Life Orb version, that way you can revenge kill more effectively. Sash on a non-lead will prove to be useless more often than not, anyways.

Using a +speed nature on Heatran could also help some of your issues, providing a decent revenge killer to the likes of Salamence.

Also, one final quick fix I'd suggest is to use a faster Latias set. If you aren't faster than Salamence and Infernape, Latias suddenly becomes a lot less useful.

How much speed ev's do you think I should put into my latias? And thanks for the input so far guys, if anything lucario'd be the first pokemon I'd like to go if I'm going to replace something.

I actually have a timid heatran, its what I used in the first place. But I felt it wasn't necessary since it reaches around 370 after a scarf with a modest nature.

My hippowdon can and has taken draco meteor from specsmence if I remember, so if anything I can let him take a hit from that to weaken the special side of the mixmence, and at LEAST force a switch. Skarmory can come in to force a switch or WW, and rack up rocks damage to help make it easier to kill. Mixmence threatens my latias in no way (unless it runs outrage over EQ) after a special attack drop also and it'll be an easy screen set up or free wish.

Latias needs 240 Spe EVs to outspeed max speed infernape
so i suggest 252 HP / 16 SPDef / 240 Spe

i would definitely change Heatran around to a +Spe nature.
maybe mixed (Hasty or Naive) so he can utilize Explosion once he's low on health so he can revenge something out with him.

as jrrrrrrr said, take off Lucario's item and replace with something else. i suggest Life Orb as he said. Crunch could be replaced with Ice Punch or ThunderPunch, depending on what you feel you need to counter. i would play around with the last option and see which you feel you need the most.

to be honest, this team is pretty well thought out. there aren't many changes you could or should make that wouldn't change the whole theme.

good job, -NaPPy

So far, I'm thinking of switching my lead to a choice band ttar for some immediate power and sandstorm. I'm also going to switch off to a specs latias with standard ev's and trick, draco meteor, dragon pulse, and surf. Sound good?
