Hello Smogon. This is probably my favourite PokeBank team that I’ve been using as of late. This team has netted me a fair few wins and a fair few disconnects cause at times, the team can be quite annoying. So without further ado:
Team at a glance:
->
Rotom-Wash @ Leftovers
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SAtk
Bold Nature
- Hydro Pump
- Will-O-Wisp
- Volt Switch
- Protect
My lead. Originally Pain Split and Specially Defensive but I felt like he couldn’t quite cut it at times. I swapped him to more Physical and my god the difference is amazing. Will-o-wisp allows for added physical bulk and is generally annoying. This guy is good against Mons such as Scizor or any physical attacker that doesn’t like water moves. Stops Talonflame well too despite it being immune to burn. Usually I’ll open with a Protect to scout which only sometimes hurts me. Great bait for the star of the show in Manectric. If I predict right I can get the opponent to Volt Switch RW only to bring in Manetric and start a sweep. Lack or recovery does get annoying though.
Aegislash @ Leftovers
Ability: Stance Change
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 SDef
Adamant Nature
- King's Shield
- Swords Dance
- Iron Head
- Shadow Sneak
One of my two physical fighters. This guy just stops Mega-Khan when it forgets EQ and Scizor. I went with Sheild+Swords Dance for late-game sweeping if I can get the set up. I honestly believe it needs Shadow Sneak to be strong due to its speed, but needs Swords Dance to make Shadow Sneak effective. This guy does have a decent synergy with Talonflame in the sense that it attracts EQs all day and Talonflame can come in on those. Especially when they’re CB locked. At +2 Shadow Sneak can either end a team when they’re weakened or at least dent something enough to make it weak to Manectric.
Talonflame @ Flying Gem
Ability: Gale Wings
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Jolly Nature
- Acrobatics
- Swords Dance
- Roost
- Flare Blitz
IMO the one of the most OP abilities in the game. With Talonflame’s already high speed, Acrobatics at +2 hurts hard and hurts fast. I’ve been tossing up with Flying Gem+Acrobatics VS Life Orb+Brave Bird but I’m not a fan of 2 recoil moves. I know I do have Roost but Life Orb damage and Recoil might be too much. When I bring in Talonflame I try to use Swords Dance then sweep but at times I’ve just had to use Acrobatics straight off which is annoying. Walled by Heatran all day but thankfully haven’t seen much of him. He does attract electric attacks which works well with Manetric.
The big issue I have is that both Aegislash and Talonflame are frail, set-up physical sweepers often used for the end game to pick up 1-3 quick and/or final KOs. This means my team loses some early offence or I risk losing one of my priority users when I really need them. Like if Talonflame is down earlyand I’m against a Mega Khan at +2, I’m probably done for since Aegislash may not be able to wall it.
Skarmory @ Leftovers
Ability: Sturdy
EVs: 232 Def / 252 HP / 24 Spd
Impish Nature
- Roost
- Whirlwind
- Brave Bird
- Defog
This spot has been a pain to fill. Originally I had Forretress here for Rapid Spin support but with Defog and Whirlwind I felt like Skarmory could do it better. I also have an issue with Sub Gliscor so I’d just Whirlwind it away and hope to KO it on a switch. I want Skarmory to have Stealth Rock to help with passive damage and this team does generate a lot of switches but I’d give up Defog which I need to keep Talonflame and Manectric healthy or Brave Bird which means I have no damaging moves. If there is a Pokemon I’m quite content with moving, it’s this guy.
Chansey (F) @ Eviolite
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SAtk
Bold Nature
- Wish
- Seismic Toss
- Protect
- Shadow Ball
Who would’ve thought this girl could be OU when Blissey was around? Wish is for the team and is an amazing move, allowing for my team to last longer. Protect ensures I get the Wish for Chansey and helps scouting for possible electric moves. Seismic Toss is obvious and the only damaging move I really use. Only use Shadow Ball is to hurt some Ghost type switch ins. It may only do 26.05 - 30.65% to Gengar and 11.72 - 14.19% to Aegislash but it’s better than the 0% Seismic Toss does. In games I win, she is 99% of the time alive and in games I lose, one of the last to faint. She just lasts and lasts.
->
Manectric @ Manectite
Ability: Lightningrod -> Intimidate
EVs: 252 SAtk / 4 SDef / 252 Spd
Timid Nature
- Volt Switch
- Thunderbolt
- Flamethrower
- Hidden Power [Ice]
The King of the Team and honestly, one of the most forgotten about Megas in X and Y. Everyone is out with their Gengars, Charizards and Kangaskhans but I use this guy and hair like that so should you. 135 in both Sp. Atk and Speed are amazing stats. When this guy comes in on an Electric attack, he goes +1 for special attacks and then he is more powerful than ever when he goes Super Sayian. First let’s have a look at his speed. 135 Speed means he reaches 405 which allows me to outspeed:
- Jolteon
- Areodactly
- Crobat
- Mega-Gengar
- Talonflame
- Greninja
- Starmie
The biggest names on that list are Talonflame and Mega-Gengar. Yes Talonflame has Gale Wings but:
+1 252+ Atk (custom) Flare Blitz vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Manectric: 283-334 (100.71 - 118.86%) -- guaranteed OHKO – But I’m faster and it faints or:
+1 252+ Atk Life Orb (custom) Brave Bird vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Manectric: 183-217 (65.12 - 77.22%) -- guaranteed 2HKO and I’m all good.
Now look at that glorious 135 Sp. Atk. With great coverage moves with Flamethrower and HP ice (god I wish the special nerf didn’t happen) he is a force to be reckoned with.
Most of those guys can’t switch in without being KO’d the next turn and for some I can survive a hit from them if they come in after a KO. A seriously powerful Pokemon.
That’s the team. Here is a rough pro-con list:
Pros:
- Good at seeking electric moves for Manectric
- Good at forcing switches
- Bulky but fast with Priority
- When set up hits very hard
Cons:
- Physically Fire weak when Rotom-W faints
- Gliscor is still a bitch
- No hazards, which hurts Manectric’s sweeping
- No early-mid game physical attacker
Thank you for your time looking at this team. It’s really fun to play with and gets some good wins but it’s missing something to help make those just loses into gettable wins.
