You probably haven’t connected to the internet at all. If you don’t have a Nintendo Online subscription, you can still do this by going to Mystery Gift and selecting Check Poke Portal News.
That makes sense. I almost never play online, so I'm never on the Pokeportal. Thanks for the tip!
