1.Presentation
Well, I've lurking the forum for some months by now and this week I finally made an account to start posting. This section in particular is one of my favorites 'cause it's one of the best places to learn about the meta in general and what is/what isn't working. So I hope you pardon any mistake I make and enjoy this RMT.
Since I started learning about competitive pokémon Rain caught my eye with some of my favorite 'mons being notorious abusers. Even being a very mainstream style of play, bulky offense rain fit perfectly in what I wanted to do.
2.Meet The Team
Napoléon (Politoed) (M) @ Choice Specs
Trait: Drizzle
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Hydro Pump
- Ice Beam
- Focus Blast
- Hidden Power [Grass]
First thing I thought was about using a standard defensive Politoed, but with Vaporeon (who was standard defensive at time) that sounded a little bit redundant, so I decided to try a choice one and worked pretty well. Even if 'toed doesn't have the best SAtk or the best movepool, he isn't complete useless offensively.
Surf has perfect accuracy and even a miss (or misses) being fatal sometimes, Specstoed's double STABed (courtesy of drizzle) Hydro Pump hurt's a lot more to let it pass. Ice beam is good for Celebi in the switch, dragons, and even some ground or flying types that I can't risk missing a Hydro Pump. Focus Blast (another big miss problem) is for TTar basically as Hydro Pump fail to OHKO most variants on sands.
The last slot I put HP Grass to Gastrodon and Rotom-W, but I'm thinking about Surf 'cause I rarely uses HP and the misses on Hydro Pump caused me a lot of losses.
Lumière (Jolteon) (M) @ Choice Specs
Trait: Volt Absorb
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Thunder
- Volt Switch
- Shadow Ball
- Hidden Power [Water]
Jolteon could be described with only 2 words: Thunder Spam. Initially he had a Life Orb over Choice Specs, but frail as he is the recoil was being a really problem cutting lots of his durability. And with so poor coverage I usually just was Thunder spamming anyway, rarely switching to HP, Volt Switch or Shadow Ball. He also serves as a way to stop opponent's thunder spamming thanks to Volt Absorb, with was causing me a lot of problems against opposing Rain Teams.
Thunder is a 120bp STAB with 100% accuracy on rain and with Specs kill lots of things that don't resist. The paralysis chance is really appealing too. Volt Switch serves to do a Volt-Turn combo with Scizor and Forry, scout, and kill some things with low HP or without rain. Shadow Ball and HP [water] are basically for coverage, the first hitting neutral in lots of things that resist electric and water and the last as a stronger option to neutral coverage on rain while also OHKOs Gliscor and Landorus. I was thinking about HP Ice over HP Water to hit dragons too, but don't know how exactly that would work.
Wonderwall (Vaporeon) (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Hydration
EVs: 252 HP / 252 SDef
Calm Nature (+SDef, -Atk)
- Wish
- Scald
- Rest
- Acid Armor
Vaporeon is almost unbeatable under Rain. Usually I just put him on something that can't hurt he much and bomb Acid Armor during the switch. Almost anything can beat him on the special side and after some Acid Armor boosts, on the physical side too.
Rest is the crux of this set restoring his entire life while Wish provides another font of heal and can make Vaporeon works as a Whish Passer. Acid Armor boosts his mediocre defense to awesome levels making him really hard to kill. The 64PP grants that I'll win almost any PP war too. Scald is STAB, gets boosted in rain and has a chance to burn, with is always useful taking in count that Vaporeon isn't really an offensive behemoth with this set.
Furieux (Scizor) (M) @ Choice Band
Trait: Technician
EVs: 156 HP / 252 Atk / 100 Spd
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Bullet Punch
- Superpower
- U-turn
- Pursuit
Ah, the always omnipresent Scizor. Usually this slot was occupied with a Toxicroak, but after being raped for Earthquake more than I can remember Furieux entered to fill the physical attacker spot. It's pretty much standard 'cause it was the one who fit better, I tried the SD set first, but wasn't really effective. The spread grants some bulk along with Spd to surpass some of otherwise counters.
Technician Bullet Punch is absolutely monstrous and is deadly in the end game. Superpower along with the 100 Spd EVs let me kill most variants of Heatran, TTar and some Magnezones too. U-Turn is STAB and makes a good Volt-Switch duo with Jolteon (or trio with forry) while scouting. Pursuit traps Latios locked on Draco Meteor, mono-attacker Latias, Celebi and other switching pokes.
Mitrailleuse (Forretress) (F) @ Leftovers
Trait: Sturdy
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def
Relaxed Nature (+Def, -Spd)
- Stealth Rock
- Spikes
- Rapid Spin
- Volt Switch
If I had to change a poke that would be Forretress. I use her to rapid spin and put hazards on field, but besides this she's almost useless. I can put her on something locked on outrage and volt switch to Scizor KO the opponent with bullet punch, but besides this she is just settup bait to my adversary. I'm really considering putting Donphan in her place, but don't really know how that would work.
Stealth Rock and Spikes are the hazards and I usually can put SR and a lay of Spikes before fainting. Rapid spin grants that the other team won't rape me with they hazards (with is absolutely necessary in a weather war against sands) especially Toxic Spikes. Volt Switch is to forry change to something that can deal with the opponent better.
Souhaiter (Jirachi) @ Leftovers
Trait: Serene Grace
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Substitute
- Calm Mind
- Thunder
- Psyshock
Jirachi! Souhaiter is probably the cutest and beautiful thing in this team, but this isn't all, he is pretty useful too! It's a standard Calm Mind Jirachi, but as occurs with Scizor, the standard is enough to grants that job will be done.
Usually I use thunder first to bluff a para-flincher and then put him under the subs and start bombing CM. If the opponent doesn't have something that can break through the sub or a phazer anymore, it's GG.
