A random team I made on Shoddy that turned out surprisingly well

dpmfa094.png

Gengar @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Modest (+SpA, - Atk)
- Hypnosis
- Shadow Ball
- Thunderbolt
- Hidden Power [Ice]

I'm surprised that most people don't expect ScarfGar. It is a very effective lead and late game sweeper. I almost never use an attacking move on the first turn because most leads run Focus Sash and KO me back or set up rocks. I usually use Hypnosis to send the Pokemon to sleep so I can set up Stealth Rocks with...

Bronzong @ Leftovers
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP / 128 Atk / 128 SpD
Relaxed (+Def, -Spe)
- Stealth Rock
- Explosion
- Gyro Ball
- Hypnosis

Mainly for setting up rocks. Gets the job done 100% of the time and can occasionally blow up in the oppoenent's face. This is a really standard set that most of you have faced so there's not much to say.

Machamp @ Leftovers
Ability: No Guard
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 Spe
Adamant (+Atk, -SpA)
- Dynamic Punch
- Ice Punch
- Rest
- Sleep Talk

I was a little iffy about this set here because I'm not a big fan of RestTalkers, but once I tested this guy out, he worked wonders. A great sleep absorber and very bulky. I chose Ice Punch over Stone Edge because I prefer hitting Garchomp hard. Really not much else to say here.

Blissey @ Leftovers
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 252 HP/ 252 Def/ 4 Spe
Bold (+Def, -Atk)
- Seissmic Toss
- Aromatherapy
- Thunder Wave
- Softboiled

Hmm, yeah. Really, really standtd here. I chose Aromathreapy over Ice Beam because it really helps my fast sweepers get the paralysis off and helps Machamp recover from Sleep when using Rest. You know the rest...

Dusknoir @ Leftovers
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 Spe
Impish (+Def, -SpA)
- Will-O-Wisp
- Shadow Sneak
- ThunderPunch
- Pain Split

Great on taking on Gyarados, which my team had a glaring weakness to. Also covers Blissey nicely with it's immunity to Fighting. Very useful in the many stall wars I encounter. Will-O-Wisp and Pain Split wears down walls very nicely. A big part of my team as it provides support and defense.

Mamoswine @ Choice Band
Ability: Guts
EVs: 104 HP / 252 Atk / 152 Spe
Adamant (+Atk, -SpA)
- Close Combat
- Megahorn
- Stone Edge
- Pursuit

This cleans-up late game very nicely. By the end of the match I have usually either crippled their sweepers or killed them off allowing for a nice Heracross sweep. This thing has saved my ass plenty of times in battle and I love using it.

I would do something about Dusknoir / Spiritomb problems. Heracross is a good choice against Spiritomb, but you need to beware of Duksnoir's Fire Punch. Heatran's a generally good choice for both, but Spiritomb may have HP Fighting, and you would want LO, Choice Specs, Metal Sound, Wisp, or Toxic to save its precious Fire Blast PP. Since Spiritomb and Cresselia / Floating Psychics can wall a large part of your team's offense, I'll suggest adding Heracross > Mamoswine.

Forretress should have EQ or Counter > Explosion / Rapid Spin to be able to handle Metagross. If you lose Rapid Spin, I'd replace this for Bronzong, since Stone-Edge resist > Crunch resist, and it wouldn't die as horribly to fire moves. If you go with Counter, you may want to buff Forretress's defense more.

Since Azelf does not have Nasty Plot, Fire Blast is the way to go.

If you're going RestTalk, I'd rather abuse its Guts than No Guard. A guts-activated Close Combat / Cross Chop / Revenge would hurt! You don't necessarily need Rest if its sole purpose is to absorb status, and give it PayBack or Stone-Edge instead. However, if you want it to tank hits, then I suppose stick with Rest. When people use RestTalk, they usually have a more defensive spread than merely 252 HP. With Guts-boost, Machamp can afford to lose a portion of its Atk EVs to Def or Sp Def, depending on what you want it to sponge.

Lucario and Gyarados both pose a huge threat to this team. I would try Dusknoir over Azelf with THunderpunch, EQ, Will-O-Wisp, Pain Split. With 252 HP / 252 Def, Impish Nature, it'll beat Gyarados 1 vs 1 all the time and has a chance to survive Lucario's Crunch. Also, give Gengar Aura Sphere (over Hypnosis) for a reliable OHKO on Lucario. Only BPunch Lucario pose a threat to Gengar, and since most Lucario do not hold Crunch AND bullet punch at the same time, Gengar and Dusknoir should cover Lucario fine.

I'm also suggesting Swampert > Machamp, because your team have trouble with Infernape, and Swampert would still allow you to counter Tyranitar. Infernape's Grass Knot or Close Combats are the only moves that would hurt Swampert, which would provide an easy switch-in to Gengar / Dusknoir. Curse, EQ, Avalanche, Hydro Pump / Rest (viable with Blissey's Aromatherapy) is what I suggest, and 240 HP / 216 Def / 52 SAtk, Relaxed Nature is the standard spread. If you're going with Rest, transfer the SAtk EVs into Defense / Atk.

An offense that complements Swampert's would be a Fire Type. SpecsHeatran , mixed Magmortar, and Infernape does this best. Heracross also works, too. Any of these complementary offense should go over Mamoswine.

Sorry for the many replacements, but some things had to come out for better coverage. I hope this is what you were looking for; you don't have to accept all the things I've said here. However, Heracross would really help out with your team and be aware of your Lucario and Gyarados weakness (Infernape with prediction can also be scary).

Since I've seen a lot of Gengars with Focus Sash, I guess I got used to predicting against them. My ScarfZam lead was designed with the intent to quickly bring down ScarfGar and Crobat leads, but now I find myself using Trick on the first turn against Gengar more often.

It's weird that this team is working as well as you say. Doesn't seem very "special" (no offense). Azelf could use a better item, as the Focus Sash might be gone by the time you send it out (damn SR). I guess Life Orb will work, Lum Berry is an option, but only for a surprise factor, as I think most people would want to straight out target Azelf's weak defenses. If you're really scared of Dusknoir and Spiritomb, I thought Heatran could work:

Heatran@Leftovers
Timid
252 Spe / 232 Sp. Atk / 24 Hp
-Taunt
-Lava Plume
-Earth Power
-Explosion

Most people don't expect Taunt, so Dusknoir and Spiritomb's Pain Split is pretty much screwed. Immunity to Will-O-Wisp, resistance to Ghost and Dark, and the threat of a burn makes Heatran a very good counter. Gengar is still there for revenge killing, and Heatran is a wall breaker of sorts, similar to Gyarados. Cresselia won't beat Taunt Heatran one on one, and Blissey can only ST. But then again, Lucario and possibly Gyarados will give you trouble.

A lot of holes to cover, but I think Pocket covered a lot of it nicely.
