A Syzygy of Synergy

Hello Smogon it is Stabmaster here. I am here today to unravel my latest creation-- a team that I hope you will enjoy rating as much as I enjoyed making it. The team is slightly unconventional at first glance- but at the same time it is not gimmicky. Here, why don't I sum up this introduction so you can see it for yourself.

Breloom @ Toxic Orb
Ability: Poison Heal
Nature: Adamant
Evs: 12 HP / 244 Atk / 252 Spe
Moveset:
-Spore
-Substitute
-Focus Punch
-Seed Bomb

When people realize that breloom is my lead, most of them (about 90%) immediately assume that it is a choice scarf spore user. They instantly switch to the poké that can do the least to breloom, but by the time toxic orb has activated it is already to late for the poor suckers as my increda-breloom has already set up a sub and is ready to wreck. Breloom has recieved so many boons from gamefreak I am beginning to think that they are playing favorites. With an amazing attack stat and great STAB moves, Breloom is a great addition to my team.

jellicent.jpg

Jellicent @ Leftovers
Ability: Water Absorb
Nature:Bold
Evs: 248 HP / 216 Def / 44 Spe
Moveset:
-Scald
-Recover
-Ice Beam
-Energy Ball

My old bearded aquatic friend. This thing works great for synergy: being able to switch in on water and normal type attacks. It is able to severely cripple opposing mons with scald and can easily switch in on water types and obliterate(lol jk, just dent) them with energy ball. Ice beam is for dragons, and recover coupled with Lefties and a good nature with decent Evs will insure my gelatinous friends's longevity.

Heatran @ Leftovers
Ability: Flash Fire
Nature: Calm
Evs: 248 HP / 100 SpD / 160 Spe
Moveset:
-Lava Plume
-Stealth Rock
-Roar
-Hidden Power Ice

Heatran is a nice defensive mon to help add to my teams synergy and stability. He is immune to fire, and his x4 weakness to ground provides some good switches to some of my other pokés. He sets up Stealth Rocks, and can also help deal damage to dragons with hp ice and spread status around with lava plume. An overall well rounded good adition to the team.

gliscor.png

Gliscor @ Toxic Orb
Ability: Poison Heal
Nature: Impish
Evs: 252 HP / 184 Def / 72 Spe
Moveset:
-Swords Dance
-Earthquake
-Protect
-Ice Fang/Facade

This zubat on steroids is a great physical wall to a ton of popular OU metagame threats. On top of being able to take hits, he is also very good at dishing them out too. Earthquake for STAB, Ice Fang for those pesky dragons, Protect to nab some hp boosts from poison heal, and swords dance to help him deal out decent damage. Overall pretty good.

magnezone.jpg

Magnezone @ Light Clay
Ability: Magnet Pull
Nature: Calm
Evs: 252 HP / 96 Def / 160 SpD
Movesets:
-Light Screen
-Reflect
-Hidden Power Fire
-Volt Switch

I have not ever used a Light Clay set, so it will be interesting to see how it works out. Pretty simple stuff-- switch in on a helpless defenseless steel type, set screens up, kill, switch to sweeper. Not much else to say here- gets rid of the pesky steel types that hinder sweeps. Jellicent does it to the bulky waters, and from there on sweepers can just do there thing.

dragonite.png

Dragonite @ Leftovers
Ability: Multiscale
Nature: Adamant/Jolly
Evs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Moveset:
-Dragon Dance
-Outrage
-Fire Punch
-Extreme Speed

What a beast. With screens up an multiscale on, it can survive almost anything, dragon dance, then wreck shop. Mostly he just cleans up what is left of other teams- after they have been chewed up by the rest of my team. Great sweeper and the offensive center of my team.

***Well, ther you have it! My new team. Feel free to rate, actually, Please do! Any and All help would be appreciated to help make this team better!***

Hey man, pretty solid team you have here.

The first thing that I noticed right off that back is this team has a big weakness to trick room reunicles, while it may not outright sweep you (most of the time), it is going to leave huge holes in your team. To fix this I suggest a specially defensive Jirachi over Heatran. Jirachi will pretty much play the same role on this team as Heatran. Any possible threats that switching from Heatran -> Jirachi might have, your Dragonite covers quite nicely.

Speaking of Dragonite, it is not going to last too long without rapid spin support. There are a variety of rapid spinners to choose from, but in this case I feel Hitmontop might be the best choice because it covers many of the physical threats that Gliscor + Jellicent miss out on, such as Scarfty for example. Currently Breloom isn't doing much for team synergy, (especially if you switch Heatran for Jirachi), so it would be the idea candidate to switch.

After that, just some move nickpicks:
-You probably want to give Jellicent the standard moveset of scald/willow-wisp/recover/taunt. Taunt will prevent ferrothorn and other pokemon from getting in free layers and boosts. While willow-wisp is great for pokemon immune to scald like toxicroak or if you really need to burn something.
-HP ice isn't doing much for Heatran at all, instead use protect for scouting + recovery or toxic to cripple many switch ins
-This team doesn't need screens for magnezone (unless you really like them), I would just go for subcharge magnezone

Magnezone @ Leftovers
Trait: Magnet Pull
EVs: 252 HP / 36 SDef / 220 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Substitute
- Charge Beam
- Thunderbolt
- Hidden Power [Fire]

Jirachi @ Leftovers
Trait: Serene Grace
EVs: 252 HP / 224 SDef / 32 Spd
Careful Nature (+SDef, -SAtk)
- Wish
- Body Slam
- Stealth Rock
- Iron Head

Hitmontop (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Intimidate
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 Def
Impish Nature (+Def, -SAtk)
- Close Combat
- Rapid Spin
- Toxic
- Rest
The magnezone set is pretty basic, trap a steel type, then substitute, then charge beam away until you are satisfied. Then kill it and the next pokemon that comes to break your sub. The evs make sure you outspeed adamant scizor, the rest in special defense for Rotom-W, although I encourage you to play around with the remaining evs. Flashcannon>Thunderbolt is also an option.

The Jirachi set is pretty standard, 32 speed evs for Jolly tyranitar, which isn't too important in itself, but a bunch of pokemon lie around that speed tier.

Hitmontop is all defenses so take hits of course. A few other options I encourage you to play with here is high jump kick>close combat and protect/sucker punch>rest.

Good luck.

Gyarados can be quite troublesome for your team, seeing as you don't really have a reliable switchin. Heatran and Gliscor are set up on, as it threatens both with Waterfall and you can't risk losing them, while it also takes their attack with ease thanks to its typing and, in Gliscor's case, Intimidate. After a Dragon Dance it's hard to stop. Magnezone and Jellicent seem like your best switchins, but Magnezone can be met with a Substitute, blocking Volt Switch and letting Gyarados set up a Dragon Dance while you switch back to it. If Gyarados doesn't have Substitute, it has a good chance of having Earthquake. Note that +1 Waterfall in the rain also OHKOes Magnezone. Jellicent, on the other hand, can't exactly take boosted Bounces as Gyarados can just set up Dragon Dances on Jellicent while you can't exactly harm it, with your most powerful attack against Gyarados (Ice Beam) does 17 - 20%. Relying on Scald to burn isn't exactly reliable either, as most Gyarados have Substitute. Offensive Gyarados also only needs two Dragon Dances to OHKO Jellicent with Bounce, meaning you only shot at burning if it Dragon Dances while you switch in.
Reuniclus can threaten you fairly easily because it can set up on Jellicent, or Breloom after Sleep Clause activation. It can then Calm Mind on the switch (if you don't switch it just gets up more Calm Minds) and threaten your team. Heatran takes up to 75% from +1 Focus Blast and can't do anything back besides Roar, which doesn't really matter to Reuniclus as it is immune to hazards and can just come back in later. If Reuniclus carries Life Orb, there's a good chance your Heatran is KOed after Stealth Rock. The other members of your team are also handled by Psychic and Focus Blast. Dragonite can take a Pyschic with Multiscale, but if Stealth Rock is up Dragonite can't. Even if Stealth Rock is up, you will have to sacrifice Dragonite to bring Reuniclus down to about 10%, as Outrage doesn't 2HKO Reuniclus, while +1 Psychic does 2HKO Dragonite even with Multiscale activated.

Now, using Latias instead of Dragonite would help against all these problems quite well. It's easy for you to keep Stealth Rock up, thanks to Jellicent who doesn't fear anything from common spinners. That way, Latias can take an attack from Gyarados, Roar it out even if it has a Substitute, and make it take 25% damage. Latias can Roost off the damage later, and once Gyarados gets below 35%, Latias can Dragon Pulse for the KO. Reuniclus is also walled by Latias, as Latias resists both Psychic / Psyshock and Focus Blast, while it sets up its own Calm Mind. Once Latias is at high enough health, it can Roar out Reuniclus and then sweep the opponent's team instead of Reuniclus sweeping you! Latias also helps the team with some other, minor threats. Mixed Infernape, for example, can really threaten your team if it carries both Grass Knot and Hidden Power Ice. However, with Latias you have nothing to worry from Infernape. The exact set is:

380-a.png
Latias @ Leftovers | Levitate
Timid | 252 HP / 4 SpA / 252 Spe
Calm Mind / Dragon Pulse / Roost / Roar

As for a smaller change, Jellicent is probably better off just using the standard Taunt + WoW moveset. Ice Beam and Energy Ball can sometimes be useful, but honestly everything that is hit by it is also handled by Taunt + WoW. Dragons are outstalled with Will-O-Wisp as they won't hit as hard as they normally do, while Gastrodon and co can't Recover with Taunt, meaning they get slowly worn down by burn damage while you can Recover off their attacks easily. The exact moveset is Scald / Recover / Taunt / Will-O-Wisp.

Good luck!
