A Team for Mawile

Hey, people!

I've been playing Pokemon since it's release but I've never had a competitive team until this gen. My team has gone through many changes since X/Y's debut including an Eeveelution Baton Pass team, Mega-Kang, and a Sandstorm team. This team is a mixture of my other teams. With the pokemon that I liked and the ones did well with my playstyle, which happens to be walling.

So let's get it started:

Undine (Vaporeon) (f) @ Leftovers
Ability: Water Absorb
EVs: 252 Hp, 252 Def, 6 Sp
Nature: Bold (+Def, -Atk)
- Scald
- Protect
- Wish
- Roar

Vaporeon has always been my favorite Pokemon and has always been the star of my team. She acts as the central point of the team because of her bulk and healing. She can switch in to a good number of Pokemon and she can survive bouts long enough to get a Wish to another Teammate. She can also abosrb Hydro Pumps from Rotom-W and Ice Punches from MegaCham. This set uses Scald for STAB and so she doesn't become Taunt bait. Wish and Protect for support to the team and recovery. Roars original purpose was to get rid of CM Suicune but also works for any set-up sweeper and good for phazing. Roar is also nice since I can spread poison and para with other teammates.

The Woman (Mawile) (F) @ Mawilite
Ability: Intimidate > Huge Power
EVs: 252 Hp, 252 Atk, 6 Sp
Nature: Adamant (+Atk, -SpA)
- Swords Dance
- Play Rough
- Sucker Punch
- Fire Fang

One of my new favorite Pokemon and one of the best megas IMO. Since Mega-Kang was banned I needed to replace her and Mawile always gave me trouble with my other teams so I started using her and she has worked wonders. Her massive attack is almost impossible to wall and her natural bulk and boosted Hp make her hard to kill in one or two hits, plus intimidate is nice for those switch-ins to give her a little more longevity. She normally comes out towards the end as a cleaner after most of her other threats are gone or when there's an opening with a choiced dragon. This set has Swords Dance for added attack for wallbreaking and for when she has an opening to SD. Play Rough for STAB and destroying anything that isn't steel/poison. Sucker Punch for priority, save on other priorities. And finally, Fire Fang for hitting Scizor because it's a pain. The EV spread is for max Atk and added bulk for survival.

Bruce (Gliscor) (M) Toxic Orb
Ability: Poison Heal
EVs: 252 Hp, 252 Def, 6 Sp
Nature: Impish (+Def, -SpA)
- Earthquake
- Toxic
- Taunt
- Protect

This set is relatively straight forward. Earthquake for STAB. Toxic for added damage and for things resistant or unaffected by EQ. Taunt for annoying status users, leads and the ever annoying Aegislash. And protect for self recovery and damage accrual from toxic. Gliscor has massive defensive bulk and stalls a good number of Pokemon. And on top of that he's a great partner for Mawile to force garchomp to use Dragon Claw or Outrage, as well as being able to eat physical fire/fighting/steel moves for her. His EVs add to its lifespan.

Toru (Snorlax) (M) @ Assault Vest
Ability: Thick Fat
EVs: 252 Atk, 252 SpD, 6 Def
Nature: Adamant (+Atk, -SpA)
- Body Slam
- Earthquake
- Pursuit
- Crunch

I looked into Pokemon that use the Assault Vest well because I new that I wanted a nice Special Wall. Snorlax has always been good to me so I decided to go with it. The EVs add to its special bulk but also keep it's attack up. I went with Atk over Hp because I wanted the added damage for Pursuit on fleeing Alakazam and Gengar but I also have wish support from Vaporeon to fix it's lower Hp. Thick fat gives him the ability to tank special fire attacks for Mawile as well as ice for Gliscor and, likewise, Gliscor eats physical fighting moves for Snorlax. The moveset is for maximum coverage for anything wants to try tangoing with him as well as hitting those that think they can run.

Barbossa (Ferrothorn) (M) @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Iron Barbs
EVs: 252 Hp, 48 Def, 210 SpD
IVs: 0 Sp
Nature: Relaxed (+Def, -Sp)
- Gyro Ball
- Power Whip
- Leech Seed
- Spikes

Ferrothorn is my spiker and usually my lead. It can force fire/ice type moves from most for a nice switch to Snorlax or force EQ for a switch to Gliscor. Leech seed is appreciated by the other teammates for those switch ins. Gyro Ball for most sweepers and Power Whip for just hitting things for when it needs too. I chose spikes over rocks because if I have the time it can deal more damage but I also can handle most pokemon who are immune to them without rocks help. The Pokemon that play on the ground tend to give me the most trouble. The EVs maximize it's longevity and allow it to survive most flamethrowers, minus MegaY Char w/ Drought. And Rocky Helmet to force switches and deal more damage to Scizor than it does to me with Bullet Punch.

Luna (Espeon) (F) @ Light Clay
Ability: Magic Bounce
EVs: 252 SpA, 252 Sp, 6 SpD
Nature: Timid (+Sp, -Atk)
- Psychic
- Baton Pass
- Reflect
- Light Screen

This last slot has gone through some changes and I don't really know what to put here, but Espeon and it's dual screening and annoying Magic Bounce typically throw other teams through hoops and save me in some crusial moments. Magic bounce is great since I don't have a Rapid Spinner but also it can save me from WoW, Toxic, and Taunt. Which are detremental for Snorlax and Vaporeon. The dual screens help boost my walliness, which isn't really needed but is nice for those random moments where my pokemon have to deal with something they don't usually deal with. Psychic is because I have little SpA presence and baton pass gets it out of pursuits.

So let me know what y'all think. I'm open to any suggestions and critisims to make my team better. Thank you.

Hi. I'll suggest one small thing:

Espeon being a Dual screener won't need SAtk. Best if put in Speed and HP to quickly setup and flee the scene

If you like a dual screener try klefkie for dual prankster screens and an annoying priority thunderwave to nuter most sweepers. Also try Stealth Rocks over spikes because it puts a lot of pressure on opposing teams that rely on Charizard Y and talon flame and other flying type pokemon to get rid of them while spikes are at best just annoying. Also try Concledurr over snorlax because it has similar bulk a better move pool IMO. All in all good team though.

Here are some tips and changes for you:

  • You should change Snorlax's EV spread to 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SDef with a Bold Nature
  • With Status Conditions being a big threat to your team, why not make Vaporeon a Heal Beller. A good moveset is Heal Bell/Scald/Wish/Protect (no Roar will be explained in a second) and an EV spread of 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SDef with a Bold Nature
  • 210 SDef EVs is impossible, so you should probably have the EV spread of 208 SDef / 48 Def / 252 HP for Ferrothorn
  • The most crucial change: Change Espeon to Latias (not latios). The biggest problem with your team is not having a Defogger/Rapid Spinner. Espeon could bounce back some of it, but it is to frail to be able to stay in. Latias is a good Defogger, and in the same time is a Special Attack Tank. The set I chose was:
Luna (Latias) (F) @ Light Clay
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP / 4 SAtk / 252 SDef
Timid Nature
- Defog
- Roost
- Dragon Pulse
- Roar

Defog is for Entry Hazard, Roost to gain back the health you lost, Pychic for a little bit of an offensive presence and to not be completely walled by Taunt, and Roar to Pseudo-Haze enemies that have set up. Leftovers is for continuous recovery, and finally 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SAtk for maximized Special Defensive bulk.
Hope this helps :)

Thank you all for the feedback. I'll definitely give Concledurr a try and I'll switch to Latias as well and see how that works our for me. Statuses are always a pain for this team so I think heal bell vaporeon would be a great help. I'll make the changes to Espeon and try out klefkie as well to see what happens. Thanks again.

For Gliscor you may want to run a few more speed EVs to be able to taunt pokemon that threaten Gliscor.

On Snorlax run fire punch over crunch since you already have pursuit, and it allows you to not be walled by Scizor/Forretress.

Other than that awesome team!
