Well this seems like as good as any place to put it.
Me, and 4 of my friends are trying to have our own tournament amongst ourselves in Pokemon Battle Revolution. We all have different 4th gen games. We can all use 6 pokemon in a double battle. But we are only allowed to use one Legendary Pokemon (be it uber or not and it cannot be the same as someone else's). And no duplicate items are to be used on a pokemon.
Now I've been planning on using Darkrai as my legendary pkm. It seems like a good idea given his typing and moveset (Yay for Dark Void and Nasty Plot)
But I know I'm going up against a Mewtwo and a Lugia in this tourny already. The Mewtwo I'm a little worried about since it does have a higher base Speed stat than Darkrai, and it has Aura Sphere for a OHKO. But a Dark Pulse could OHKO a Mewtwo as well as long as it gets off first. The Lugia I'm more worried about because of the hellacious 447 possible SDEF.
So with those two opponents I'm sure of, I'm considering changing my Legendary for this setup. The only problem is that 4th gen games have really upped the ante when it comes to playing with ubers. I would use Dialga if that Mewtwo wouldn't OHKO the thing with Aura Sphere. Palkia would be nice if Thunderbolt wouldn't demolish it so quickly. So I'm thinking it leaves me with Arceus and Giratina.
The only reason I bring all this up, is because I've been looking at all the individual pokemon articles here at smogon looking for tips on where to place my EV's and such. But so many of the EV setups just max out ATK/SATK and Speed. Those setup's leave the pokemon with almost no DEF stats. A 200 DEF or SDEF means that your pokemon is basically gonna be OHKO'ed even by a weaker move. But if I don't do it that way I won't one shot anyone. So how should I go about setting up for all of this? I've used this on PBR with great results, but not all the trainers on wi-fi battles EV train and actually know what they are doing. And I know that my friends are going to be a lot better than random PBR battles.
So far here's what I got going on Assume lvl 100 and 31 IV's:
1. DarkRai
Item: Focus Band
Nature: Timid
EV's: 60 DEF / 168 SPE / 216 SATK / 60 SDEF
HP: 281
ATK: 194
DEF: 231
SPE: 360
SATK: 360
SDEF: 231
Moveset: [Nasty Plot] [Dark Void] [Dark Pulse] [Ice Beam]
This build tries to capitalize on Dark Void's 80% accuracy sleep move, that just happens to hit both enemies on the field. With the given speed EV, putting his speed to 360, Darkrai outspeeds all base 130 pokemon (Mewtwo) without a +SPE nature or choice scarf. From there DarkRai can Nasty Plot on the switch, if there is one. Then Dark Pulse or Ice Beam can be deployed depending on the situation.
2. Empoleon
Item: Focus Sash
Nature: Modest
EV's: 144 HP / 12 DEF / 100 SPE / 252 SATK
HP: 345
ATK: 187
DEF: 215
SPE: 181
SATK: 353
SDEF: 238
Moveset: [Stealth Rock] [Hydro Pump] [Grass Knot] [Agility]
Sent out with Darkrai as leads. Empoleon can Stealth Rock on the first turn in case the opponent switches out after DarkRai's Dark Void. His steel typing allows him to take a hit usually and Empoleon can Hydro Pump most enemies and Grass Knot bigger ones.
3. Garchomp
Item: Draco Plate
Nature: Adamant
EV's: 164 ATK / 136 DEF / 208 SPE
HP: 357
ATK: 370
DEF: 260
SPE: 292
SATK: 176
SDEF: 206
Moveset: [Swords Dance] [Double Team] [Outrage] [Stone Edge]
Garchomp's 370 ATK along with Draco Plate and Swords Dance make Outrage hit for Great Damage. Stone Edge could be replaced by Earthquake but for double battles with no flying types on my team Stone Edge is a suitable choice for double battles. Double Team is added in case Tyranitar hasn't come out yet to Activate Sand Veil, or just enhances Sand Veil.
4. Machamp (No Guard)
Item: Choice Scarf
Nature: Adamant
EV's: 252 ATK / 40 DEF / 216 SPE
HP: 321
ATK: 394
DEF: 206
SPE: 200
SATK: 149
SDEF: 206
Moveset: [Dynamic Punch] [Ice Punch] [Thunder Punch] [Payback]
Machamp with a choice scarf makes him outrun a lot of pokemon that could come out and OHKO Machamp. Coupled with No Guard and Dynamic Punch he can deal out massive damage and confusion very easily. Decreasing Def back to 0 EV's and putting them into speed Machamp can often outspeed some Mewtwo's and use payback for super effective damage from an unsuspecting pokemon.
5. Magmortar
Item: Choice Specs
Nature: Modest
EV's: 56 DEF / 232 SPE / 220 SATK
HP: 291
ATK: 202
DEF: 183
SPE: 260
SATK: 375
SDEF: 226
Moveset: [Fire Blast] [Focus Blast] [Thunderbolt] [Hidden Power Ice]
Not quite as fast as some would like, but fast enough for many cases, Magmortar's Focus Blast can OHKO Dialga. Fire Blast would incernate Scizor. Thunderbolt would kill waters. And HP Ice for those Dragons with Earthquake. The choice specs make this a very intimidating set. This Magmortar dies fairly easily though because it has to switch out for new moves.
6. Tyranitar
Item: Life Orb
Nature: Adamant
EV's: 186 ATK / 32 DEF / 180 SPE / 112 SDEF
HP: 341
ATK: 385
DEF: 264
SPE: 203
SATK: 203
SDEF: 264
Moveset: [Superpower] [Stone Edge] [Crunch] [Aqua Tail]
Adamant Nature with Life Orb, of course make Tyranitar very scary even to his resistances. Def EV's could be taken off to max out attack, but the little extra DEF often saves him from death by a little. Super Power dominates Steel types that might make Tyranitar cry. Aqual Tail will wreck fire types that switch in thinking to use ground or rock pokemon.
