SM OU A total beginner's team

Hi everyone here, thanks for taking your time reading my post. I am a total beginner and I have pretty much no idea how to build a strong team. Good thing is, I'm always willing to learn.

Below is my team, I'm willing to hear any suggestions! Thanks everyone!

Garchomp (M) @ Focus Sash
Ability: Rough Skin
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Swords Dance
- Fire Blast
- Dragon Claw

The reason I use Garchomp, is of course not because I love dragons. The purpose of this leading Pokemon is to set up hazard. Garchop's speed makes it out-speeds most entry hazard setters. Thus, a very good Pokemon for setting up Stealth Rock.
Why Focus Sash? I want Garchomp to survive on the field, so it can set up Stealth Rock and weaken other offensive Pokemon, if possible.

Kyurem-Black @ Life Orb
Ability: Teravolt
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 4 Atk / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Naive Nature
- Ice Beam
- Fusion Bolt
- Earth Power
- Outrage

Another dragon! Due to its massive base attack, Kyurem-Black serves as an effective wallbreaker.

Charizard-Mega-Y (M) @ Charizardite Y
Ability: Blaze
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Flamethrower
- Solar Beam
- Focus Blast
- Roost

Flamethrower serves as the best STAB move. Solar Beam is used to fight Water- and Rock-type Pokemon.

Lucario (M) @ Life Orb
Ability: Inner Focus
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Swords Dance
- Close Combat
- ExtremeSpeed
- Crunch

Due to its type, Lucario 4x resists Dark, Rock, and Bug while 2x resists Grass, Dragon, Steel, and Normal. Given the fact that my team doesn't have many Rock-resisters, I think Lucario is a very good choice.

Scizor @ Choice Band
Ability: Technician
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Atk / 8 Spe
Adamant Nature
- U-turn
- Bullet Punch
- Superpower
- Pursuit

Need nothing to say.

Weavile (F) @ Life Orb
Ability: Pressure
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Icicle Crash
- Knock Off
- Pursuit
- Ice Shard

Weavile serves as the end-game cleaner.

Should I replace some of the pokemon/moves? Please let me know what you think, thanks!

Hey, welcome to Smogon & competitive Pokemon! Your team is clearly very offense-oriented, and it's clear that you have a somewhat basic understanding of what moves would work on a certain Pokemon. A couple of Pokemon are rather out of place in the metagame and they lack good enough / any reasoning in your RMT.

First off, your team lacks hazard removal. A Pokemon such as Landorus-Therian will freely set up Stealth Rocks against Garchomp, Lucario, and Scizor to provide chip damage to your entire team. Most notably, Charizard-Mega-Y, Kyurem-Black, and Weavile will be heavily affected, especially with the latter two Pokemon having Life Orb and the former being 4x weak. Your Water-resist is one that is easily worn down, Kyurem-Black, though you can cushion Water-type damage via Drought. Menacing wallbreakers such as Choice Banded Tyranitar or Tapu Lele will give this team a lot of trouble. Overall, your team is rather slow, so other Pokemon such as Ash Greninja and Tapu Koko will have fun vs. you.

Major Changes

Landorus-Therian > Garchomp

  • Initially, I considered a minor change of Dragonium Z > Focus Sash on Garchomp, but your team remained extremely weak to Hawlucha. Flyinium Z Landorus solidly checks Hawlucha. I'm suggesting a spread of 188+ Atk / 68 Def / 252 Spe, as 68 defense allows it to survive a +1 Acrobatics after Stealth Rock guaranteed. Landorus now provides an additional Ground-immunity, and it provides more utility than Garchomp could.
Landorus-Therian @ Flyinium Z
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 188 Atk / 68 Def / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Earthquake
- Fly
- Smack Down
- Stealth Rock

Kartana > Lucario

  • Lucario isn't particularly useful in OU because it's so outclassed by the likes of Kartana. On paper, it can release devastating +2 Extreme Speeds, but its fragility, mediocre speed, and decent attack leave something to be desired. Kartana can opt to run Choice Scarf thanks to its amazing attack stat. It can also run Defog to patch up the lack of hazard removal. Scarf Defog works fine on this build, as it provides a fast (generally guaranteed) way of getting rid of hazards in a pinch for offensive builds. Scarf Kartana can answer Tapu Lele and some physical Water-types such as Mega Swampert or Gyarados.
Kartana @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Beast Boost
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Leaf Blade
- Sacred Sword
- Smart Strike
- Defog

Magearna > Scizor

  • Assault Vest Magearna will improve several of the aforementioned weaknesses. Tapu Koko, Greninja, Tapu Lele (all mentioned in the overview), and other special attackers, will fail to break past Magearna. It can solidly Volt Switch into Kyurem or Landorus to help breaking Heatran or any of its checks. Tyranitar needs to predict a Magearna switch via Fire Punch / Earthquake, but Magearna's resistance to both STABs lets it be a decent check.
Magearna @ Assault Vest
Ability: Soul-Heart
EVs: 248 HP / 8 SpA / 252 SpD
Sassy Nature
- Fleur Cannon
- Iron Head
- Hidden Power [Fire]
- Volt Switch

Minor Changes

1519065528076.png

Roost > Outrage

Roost allows Kyurem to alleviate its Stealth Rock weakness and shrug off moves such as Hydro Pump from Greninja or Earthquake from Swampert more consistently.

1519065622920.png

Choice Band
1519075981054.png
> Life Orb
1519075931080.png
(optional)

Choice Band will bolster Weavile's offensive capabilities—allowing its Pursuit traps to do amazing damage. Life Orb does the same, but that recoil is unappealing for such a frail Pokemon.

Importable

You have a solid number of wallbreakers and some additional speed in Kartana. Tapu Koko + Hawlucha will be threatening, so Landorus acts as a blanket check. I hope you enjoyed the rate, good luck!
