Introduction

I've been debating making this rmt a while as I made the team for a team-building competition at the beginning of this month and it basically was its own mini rmt there. However since I'm considering quitting competitive mons, or at least taking a long break, and enjoyed writing up my first rmt to so much, I thought it'd be a fun idea and a last ditch effort to try and contribute something to the meta, to boost my own ego, with the most toxic Hawlucha set. I made the mistake with my previous rmt of not advertising my peak, so this team let me Peak at 1749, the highest I've been ever on the OU ladder, and unbeknown to me, it was also well in to the Top 500. I don't have a screen shot of this peak showing the placing, as at the time I didnt realise 1750 was top 500 as the lower end of top 500 was 1760 last time I peaked during olt, but I do have a replay of the final game down below. Enough riding my own dick and onto the Team finally.

As stated above, the team was built for a team-building competition where the focus was around Hawlucha. I knew everyone would build around the standard Hawlucha + Koko, so I wanted to be a little different. I wanted my Hawlucha to be able to beat some of its main checks and counters and decided to start looking into a Bulk Up set. After 30 minutes of calcing and making an ev spread, its potentially was gleaming through. With the SpDef boost, it could eat attacks from the more passive checks in Clefable and Tapu Fini, Bulk Up could allow it to set up on some of the scarier physical mons such as M.Swampert in rain. Roost allowed Hawlucha to remove its Flying type, which Tapu Koko, Band Ttar and other mons tried to pray on. The added Bulk allowed it to stall out Magnet Kokos terrain and M.Swampert, after a few boosts, and Kingdras rain if its almost ending. For this to work though, possibly for the first time ever Stealth Rock are important on your side of the field, as they allow Hawlucha to Roost. 172+ SpDef and 248 Hp is used to never be 2hkoed by magnet Kokos Tbolt in terrain on the Roost. The extra Sp.Def also allows you to eat Moonblast from both Clefable and Tapu Fini allowing you to potentially set up on them. 44 Speed is to outpace Scarf Greninja, reducing the threat of its Ice Beam and then the last, 44 Def, greatly improving the odds of living Z-Wild Charge on the Roost from Tapu Koko after a Bulk Up.

This set give Hawlucha much more versatility and allows Hawlucha to now potentially beat some of its usualy checks in: Clefable, Tapu Fini, Tapu Koko and a 61% chance to beat LO Adamant Mimikyu (roughly. Calculations below). The set faces issues from: Taunt from Koko and Tapu Fini messing with the stalling and Status in general, such as Wisp from Mew, surprise Thunder Waves and Toxics. Also all the stalling and slow recovery gains leaves you prone to being Haxed.

Tape Lele supplies Psychic Terrain, which provides the team with support and Lele awesome wall-breaking ability. It can break things such as Heatran and other Steel Types through Sheer Force alone, and with the many pivoting support from the team, it finds many opportunities to punch holes in fatter teams and apply pressure as possible. The Psychic Terrain that Lele summons, although blocks M.Scizors Bullet Punch, it allows Lele to revenge other SD M.Scizor which would otherwise be a huge problem and blocks Water Shuriken, Bullet Punch and other less relevant priority for Nihilego, increasing its revenge killing and cleaning abilities. Lastly, things designated to check Lele are often Hawlucha set up fodder, giving Hawlucha ample opportunity to set up on the sac, providing an easier late game. Max Speed is ran to tie with Kyurem-B and outpace offensive Landorus-T while max SpAtk is ran to bump up its damage output as much as possible.

Roost

3 Attacks Roost M.Scizor is probably one of my favourite sets right now, with ability to lure Heatran and dent Steels with Superpower and offers a solid defensive pivot is invaluable to the team. M.Scizor gives amazing support for both Lele and Nihilego, denting Steel types such as Heatran, Ferrothorn and Magnezone with Superpower, increasing the pressure Lele exerts and weakening the opposing team for Nihilego to clean, and a relatively slow U-Turn bringing Lele safely on mons such as LandoT. The rest of the team also highly appreciates the momentum M.Scizor adds. Bullet Punch is used as the teams priority, and a very nice way of weakening Tapu Koko for Hawlucha and finishing off mons weakened by Nihilego or Hawlucha. Lastly Roost is used to keep M.Scizor as healthy as possible, increasing its longevity throughout the match and allowing it to constatly check key threats. 72+ Atk allows Bullet Punch to always 2hkos Tapu Koko after Rocks, or allow Hawlucha to Roost stall more easily and pick off with less boosts. 248 Hp and 124 SpDef make sure Specs Lele Psychic basically never 2hkoes when rock aren't on the field and Life Orb HP Fire from Koko never ohkoes after rocks. 64 Speed is used creep Magnezones creeping M.Scizors outpacing M.Mawile, so you can either escape or break with U-Turn, Superpower respectively.

Originally M.Scizor aiding the team with Pursuit support, trapping and removing key threats to the team such as Gengar, Tapu Lele but also the Lati Twins, removing the opponents Defoger, helping out Nihilego with Tspikes immensely. If Pursuit is being ran, U-Turn is to be replaced and an ev spread of 248 HP / 96+ Atk / 100 SpD / 64 Spe is ran. This allows Pursuit on switch and 1 round of Rocks damage to 2hko Tapu Lele. Using this set is completely down to preference.

Defog

Latios makes and excellent pairing with M.Scizor, in being a solid fire resist but also freeing up M.Scizor from defog. Being able to check Heatran, M.CharizardY and other Fire types, and can then remove hazards, recover up, or force the opposing mon out is important for the team to function in as slick a manner as possible. Defog support is crucial for the team, as many of the team are prone to being hazard stacked by Ferrothorn. Bear in mind Stealth Rock are good for Hawlucha and Nihilegos Toxic Spikes are very important, so you will have to play smart. ElectriumZ Thunder is ran to lure Celesteela and can nuke other defensive threats, freeing up Lele and Nihilego to carry out there roles. Since Draco Meteor is dropped in place, Z-Thunder is also Latios's only nuke option. This leaves Latios noticeably weaker than other options, so its role is now more utility rather than offensive. Max Speed is to outpace Kartana and speed tie with other base 110s while max SpAtk is ran to increase the damage output of Z-Thunder.

Landorus-T was thrown in completing the teams defensive backbone, basically being a blanket check to half the tier. It also offers both Stealth Rocks and another pivot to the team, creating as many opportunities for Tape Lele to come in as possible. Most importantly however is the fact LandorusT can weaken offensive Z-Fly LandoTs with Hp Ice, putting them in range of a neutral Acrobatics from Hawlucha, and due to the nature of LandorusT, this opportunity arrises more often than it should. Although uninvested, LandorusTs Earthquake still packs a huge punch and provides important coverage for the team, allowing me to force out Av Magearna and revenge M.Mawiles. Important specific threats LandoT checks for the team are Band Zygarde, Band Ttar and 3 Attacks Roost M.CharizardX. Near max Hp and in tandem with 216 Def to hit a bench mark is ran to increase LandoTs physical defence to near its limits, allowing it to check these specific threats with more ease. The rest is dumped into Speed, outpacing a large proportion of the insane speed creep Defensive LandoTs have.

Lastly I needed a revenge killer, but also noticed having Toxic Spikes was amazing for Hawluchas Roost stalling shenanigans as regular Poison to put stuff in range of Hawluchas attacks while Roosting or Toxic let me beat fatter mons like Mew. This came in the compact form of Choice Scarf Nihilego. With a nice base 103 Speed, outpacing Scarf Garchomp, and a solid SpAtk stat paired with Poison Stab in a meta of fairies, Nihilego works as an amazing revenge killer for the team, but also with the switches it forces, it can find many opportunities to set up TSpikes. TSpikes paired with Sludge Bomb allows Nihilego to spread Poison for Hawlucha as fast as possible, as Sludge Bomb can catch Mew and other Defogers trying to come in to avoid the Tspike. Its typing and good SpDef also allow Nihilego to switch into a lot of Special attacks around the tier, giving it as much opportunity to come in when paired with the two defensive pivots. Beast Boost combined with Lele, M.Scizor and Latios's support in breaking down Steel types and the Poison spread by Nihilego, weakening teams, also makes Nihilego and excellent secondary win-con for the team, as it can quickly snowball out of control. Max SpAtk and max Speed allow Nihilego to hit as hard and fast as possible, helping it fulfil its roles.

Threat List

zapdos.gif

Zapdos is really hard for the team to switch into, whether it be 3 Attacks or Defog. Nothing can switch in safely as Discharge paras cripple Nihilego, Lele and Latios and stopping Hawlucha setting up on it and its other coverage hit the rest of the team too hard. It can easily preserve health vs the team, stopping Hawlucha from sweeping anytime. Zapdos without Discharge however can be set up on by Hawlucha, but it is still to easy to fish for Paralysis.

magearna.gif

Shift Gear FariumZ can be a huge threat to the team, especially when M.Scizor is weaken, which is not uncommon as it takes damage with the slow U-Turn. It outpaces the whole team bar Hawlucha with the boost, but can shurg off its attacks due to its set and blow it back with a Zmove. More threatening however is Magearnas Double Dance set, being able to set up on many of the team, and beat Hawlucha without a Z-move. Hawlucha can stop non FariumZ and non Double Dance however, as it can eat a +1 Gigalvolt Havoc when Roosting, and proceed to set up.

hawlucha.gif

At +2, opposing Hawlucha completly tears through the team but even is a huge threat at neutral. Its best to preserve health on Tapu Lele and M.Scizor, keep LandoT alive for its Intimidate to somewhat lessen the immediate threat of SD and provide as little opportunity for a free SD as possible, as M.Scizor can eat and pick off with multiple Bullet Punches. If you get your Hawlucha in first and get a Bulk Up off, you can eat the opposing Hawluchas attack and pick it off.

Stall. The teams only answer to Stall is Lele which can be removed through Pursuit trapping. If Quagsire can be removed, the team might have a chance, however this alone is extremely hard.

Hello fren
I appreciate your innovation but I’m afraid that the hawlucha set doesn’t work as it looks like on paper. In fact I immediately tried the team on the ladder and with some frens of mine but the set didn’t work at all. All that investement in bulk is unnecessary on Lucha because it has way too much weaknesses and counters. Also you won’t deal any damage before it gets +4 attack with Bulk Up, till then a counter will come in and kill it. At the end it reveals to be a dead slot.
As you said electric type mons in general, Magearna and stall teams are a huge problem. You should also add Tapu Lele, Greninja, celebrate Victini, Heatran and Alakazam-Mega on the threat list because you have no answer for them. I’ll try to minimize the threat list so far is possible.

My suggestions:

    • I. replace Hawlucha with psychic seed curse Gastrodon
    • II. replace Latios with defensive Celesteela
    • III. changes Mega Scizor’s set
    • IV. changes Nihilego’s set
    • V. change Landorus’s set

Pros: I’ve found the idea of curse Gastrodon while I was looking for a pokemon who does really abuse the psychic terrain spe def boost, in fact the set is pretty much the same of Hawlucha. So the main concept of the team will remain. This mon gives you an answer to Greninja, Magearna, Heatran and Zapdos.
Cons: /
Gastrodon @ Psychic Seed
Ability: Storm Drain
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD
Impish Nature
- Waterfall
- Recover
- Earthquake
- Curse
II.

Pros: This should help you against stall, Tapu Lele an Alakazam. The set is pretty standard, evs on both defensive side for tanking physical and special attacks.
Cons: /
Celesteela @ Leftovers
Ability: Beast Boost
EVs: 252 HP / 132 Def / 124 SpD
Relaxed Nature
- Leech Seed
- Protect
- Heavy Slam
- Flamethrower
III.

Pros: I’d honestly go for the standard set as well here to better tank Band Garde. You should try knock off over u–turn for helping chipping away all Tapu Lele’s checks. It gets rid of lefties from Heatran and Celesteela, assault vest from Tangrowth and perhaps eviolite from Chansey. Since Latios is gone I’d run Defog for hazard control.
Cons: It won’t take Lele’s specs psychic anymore but you have Celesteela for that. Sciz won’t give u the momentum that u-turn does.
Scizor @ Scizorite
Ability: Light Metal
EVs: 248 HP / 244 Def / 16 Spe
Impish Nature
- Defog
- Knock Off
- Bullet Punch
- Roost
IV.

Pros: With the extra bulk in spe def you will be able to tank one hp ground from Volcarona at +1 which hellps in case of chart berry Volc. Also change Sludge Bomb for Sludge Wave because it often makes the difference between 2HKO and 3HKO.
Cons: /
Nihilego @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Beast Boost
EVs: 180 SpA / 80 SpD / 248 Spe
Timid Nature
- Power Gem
- Sludge Wave
- Hidden Power Ice
- Toxic Spikes

Pros: Since your team is weak to stall teams you need something that can put rocks eventhough Mega Sableye and because your Z-Move user has been replaced you can run sd rockium Landorus-t with steath rocks. You set up an sd on Chansey and be sure that Sableye won’t come in.
Cons: You’ll lose bulk on the physical side.
Landorus-Therian @ Rockium Z
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Swords Dance
- Stone Edge
- Earthquake
- Stealth Rock

Fazit:
At the end the initial idea of the team has been kept. The team has become a bit bulkier but surely more viable. Rain teams may still be a problem and for winning against them you should put your t-spikes asap and Gastrodon sweeps once Ferrothorn is dead.

I hope you like my recommendations and gl laddering :]
