ORAS OU A Try At Bulky Offense

INTRODUCTION

Howdy there. This is my try at a Bulky Offense Team, and I've been trying to make a quality team. Also, I've been laddering with this team, and it has got some pretty good results against most teams. Alas, it is not perfect, and I can find myself struggling against some threats, so that's where the RMT comes in.

TEAM BUILDING PROCESS

376_mega.png
If you're playing ORAS OU and not preparing for Mega Metagross, you're really not well in the head. Meta is the monster that came to stay, and a really good one at that. Nice Bulk, Good Attack that is boosted furthermore by Tough Claws, what else can be said? It also has top-notch coverage. So, it comes to town as my mega.

286.png
Breloom may seem like an odd choice, specially the set I chose (which will be mentioned later in the RMT). However, with the set, it serves as a great check to Rotom-W, if not a counter. It's also more bulky than people give it credit for. It also helps with Meta's Ground weakness.

485.png
My team, for the time being, was extremely Talonflame weak, and you really shoudn't ignore that. So, because of that, I picked Heatran. Since I didn't want to go to the bulky route, I chose a Scarf set, which allows it to really revenge kill most stuff.

645.png
My team's weakness to Ice was increased with the arrival of Heatran; so, to end it, I chose Landorus-I, a real threat nowadays. I picked the RP set, since if I used Calm Mind, people could switch to something faster, and with no set-up it's usually hard to shine.

302.png
'Atta great pokémon. Being a physical sponge, it can and WILL absorb most physical hits. It doesn't look like a great spot in this team, so I am open to suggestion. It's been pulling its weight though.

248.png
My team lacked a Specially tanky pokémon and Rocks. Tyranitar looked like a great choice; Sandstorm allows it to really tank stuff. Also, only Breloom and Sableye take damage from Sandstorm, and neither care that much.

THE TEAM AT MORE DETAIL

metagross-mega.gif

Metagross @ Metagrossite
Ability: Clear Body
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Meteor Mash
- Zen Headbutt
- Ice Punch
-
Earthquake

This fella here is my first choice when building a team. Literally good stats on everywhere. The EVs and Nature are pretty self explanatory, max Speed and Attack. Clear Body helps avoid Intimidate and Sticky Web before Mega Evolving. Meteor Mash is your regular Steel STAB and has a nifty chance of raising Attack, really useful when needing to sweep. Zen Headbutt is STAB. Ice Punch deals with Garchomp, Landorus, blah blah blah. Earthquake helps with opposing Steels and Rock.

breloom.gif

Breloom (M) @ Toxic Orb
Ability: Poison Heal
EVs: 248 HP / 8 Atk / 252 Def
Impish Nature

- Substitute
- Leech Seed
- Drain Punch
- Seed Bomb

Breloom, as explained before, is a really great pokémon when used right. This set, while it seems outshadowed by Gliscor and Breloom's Technician set, is has the niche of beating Rotom-W when it gets the Toxic status. EVs and Nature are dumped in Physical Defense, not much else. Substitute eases scouting and helps me rack up Poison Heal. Leech Seed helps Breloom pretty much never die, and along with Poison Heal be able to set multiple Substitutes. Drain Punch can rack up a lot of HP against pokémon such as Chansey and is STAB. Finally, Seed Bomb is also STAB and helps me deal with Rotom-W and other Water or Ground types.

heatran.gif

Heatran (M) @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature

- Fire Blast
- Hidden Power [Ice]
- Earth Power
- Ancient Power

Scarf Heatran is not used often, and I can see why. It's bulk is great, and is mostly used because of that. However, it can serve as a great Revenge Killer, and a bird killer. EVs maximize Speed and Special Attack. Fire Blast is STAB and hits hard. Hidden Power [Ice] covers the same stuff Ice Punch does, but faster and in the Special Side. Earth Power breaks the same things as Earthquake. Ancient Power deals with Talonflame, Charizard, Pinsir and some others.

landorus.gif

Landorus (M) @ Life Orb
Ability: Sheer Force
EVs: 4 Atk / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Rash Nature
- Earth Power
- Rock Polish
- Hidden Power [Ice]

- Knock Off

Okay, so you all must be thinking; Landorus-I and Heatran have pretty much the same coverage, while also being speedy. What's the big deal? Well, while Heatran revenge kills, Landorus is a wallbreaker. Nature and EVs maximize Special Attack while not hindering regular Attack and dumps the rest in Speed. Earth Power is STAB and with all this investment hits so hard it's funny. Rock Polish allows a beautiful sweep, and puts his Speed in a rocket. Hidden Power [Ice] helps with Flying types that are immune to Earth Power. Knock Off surprises Chansey and nets some kills with Ghosts and Psychics.

sableye.gif

Sableye (F) @ Leftovers
Ability: Prankster
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Impish Nature
- Will-O-Wisp
- Recover
- Foul Play
- Taunt

Welp, here's the weird cat in the team. I didn't know what to put in this slot, so I put a physical tank that could do some pseudo-hazard control. There you go, Sableye. It's a pretty cool 'mon. EVs are totally invested in Physical Defense. Will-O-Wisp boosts even further the Defense of this thing. Recover stalls out and allows Sableye to stay longer. Foul Play helps against Zard-X and other Will-O-Wisp resistant things. Taunt breaks Stally pokémon and hazard setters.

tyranitar.gif

Tyranitar (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Sand Stream
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 SpD
Relaxed Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Crunch

- Stone Edge
- Ice Beam

The final member of the team, and a great addition. It's fully invested in Defense in a way that doesn't hinder Special Attack nor Attack. Sandstorm also buffs its Special Defense, making it work like a super-b mixed wall. Stealth Rock let me pressure other teams in the switch. Crunch is STAB and helps against Psychics and Ghosts. Stone Edge beats the birds. Ice Beam help me beat more Dragons and Grounds.

Pardon me, but why are we seeing your pokemon's asses?....
Because my Anaconda Don't

excuse me but your gifs are huge and unproportioned :////. no one will come rate if stuff is not crisp tbh
Nah M9 I've seen bigger gifs in RMT's before.

Interesting team but i think Lando should be naive to be faster and I think pursuit would be better on t-tar over crunch, because you can kill a psychic/ghost mon even when they switch.

Really? You're complaining about that?

Then show me a better source of images, if you would be kind to.

Landorus needs to be as strong as he cans; Rock Polish allows it to surpass pretty much everything. However, Pursuit seems like a nice choice.

im srry if it came across like that, I didnt mean to come off as a dick, I can send you a better source if you want, just let me know.

Hi there, nice team. A few changes off the top of my head. First, I would run Hammer Arm on Grass over Earthquake. Hammer Arm allows it to beat Ferro and gives very similar coverage to Ground. The speed drop stinks but even at -1 it outspeeds virtually all stallmons. Lando-I's nature is fine imo, the power boost is more than worth it at +2 speed. On Tyranitar I would run a spread of 248 HP / 28 Atk / 84 Def / 148 SpD. It seems complicated, but all it really is is max HP, enough Special Defense to take 2 Draco Meteors after damage from Rocks, enough attack for Pursuit to deal 90% damage when trapping (which KOs when combined with LO damage), with the rest dumped in Defense for bulk. Also, run Pursuit over Crunch, the trapping is worth it. I would also run Flash Cannon over HP Ice on Heatran, to check or revenge certain Fairies like Gardevoir. I would also go from Breloom to Chesnaught, as it has the same typing as Breloom but is more physically bulky. Spikes would also give you a nice Spike stacking look, or you could Wood Hammer to hit bulky Waters. Your choice. I would also got to Starmie over Sableye. You need hazard removal and a Keldeo check, that often leads to Starmie. A max HP, max speed set with Psyshock should do the trick.

Overall nice offensive group, they help each other out a lot offensively.

I was hoping to avoid Hammer Arm, but you bring a good point. Beating Ferro is great on an offensive standpoint, and I could always switch out.

Pursuit has been brought, and I have understood that it's a better option. The EVs seem to be useful, I'll give them a shot.

Starmie is cool. It's just the pokémon I needed, I forgot of it. Thanks.

Chesnaught seems good, but would a Belly Drum set be good for it? Y'know, this one:

Chesnaught @ Salac Berry
Ability: Bulletproof
EVs: 12 HP / 244 Atk / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Belly Drum
- Substitute
- Seed Bomb
- Drain Punch

It's formated in a way that Salac will activate after BD and Sub. After that, Drain Punch will heal and Seed Bomb is STAB coverage. I know it's hard walled by Ghost/Grass, but those are not commonly used, and I wouldn't send Chesnaught before late-game either way. Anyway, is the Bulky set better or would this one fit it more?

A Salac set is useable if you feel you need more firepower. The bulky set gives you more of a hazard stacking look, which is why I suggested Starmie over Lati@s, as Rapid Spin only clears hazards on your side. Defog wipes the field clean. If you go with a more offensive spread you could sub a Lati twin for Starmie easily, as you won't be hazard stacking anymore and it is easy to get one layer of Rocks back down.

Good point. I feel I already got too many sweepers and win conditions, so I guess a bulky set would be the way to go. I'll test it, and it even gives me a FWG core.
