A Try hard RU Team

I see that you would like to get a solid RU team. If that is so, you have come to the right place. Before we go into the team I should probably introduce myself. I am Gatorboy here and on showdown. I have been playing Competitive since BW2, and have only improved since then. I mainly play RU, hence why I am posting a RMT about it. BTW this is my first RMT so lemme know if there is something I can do better for the next one.

With that intro out of the way I present the Squad:

TEAM BUILDING:

I really have not used Medicham that much, and really wanted to tryout this strong powerhouse. It has the most powerful HJK in the tier. It has a nice speed for a scarfer, being at base 80. It outspeeds everything bar Accelgor with the scarf.

Next I added Alomomola for a nice mixed wall. Alomomola is a very nice at wish passing to anyone. It also doesn't have to worry about wish passing to itself since it has Regenerator. Also on the set I'm running mirror coat over toxic for some nice surprises, as with full spedef investment it allows mola to take some really nice hits.

Next is Registeel, who works perfectly with mola. Not only does mola provide the lack of recovery on Registeel, but mola also takes the fighting, fire, and ground hits that Registeel has problems with. Registeel repays by taking the Boombursts from Exploud, and can handle Venusaur. Registeel also helps out the team by being the teams Stealth Rocker, and helps spread status around the opposing team with Thunder wave and the Toxic that mola now lacks.

What we have next is Flygon, who is the Lando-T of RU. Flygon is the best defogger in the tier (also resists rocks) and is really unpredictable. Flygon also has nice defensive synergy with Regimola, since it is immune to both electric and ground. This is a special Flygon, since it is well, special. Special Flygon isn't as popular nowadays, so it is always a good surprise. On this set we have Fire Blast over Roost to hit Escavalier and Venusaur.

Sneasel was added to pack that punch with STAB Knock Off and Icicle Crash. Sneasel is a GREAT late game cleaner, and can even be used early game to Knock Off items off the opposing team. Also is a great Pursuit trapper, forcing out Meloetta, Flygon, Rotom, and Venusaur. Sneasel also has Low Kick to heavily Damage Registeel. All in all, Sneasel is a great addition to the Squad.

What the team was lacking was a lot of coverage moves, and Sigi helps a lot with that, having access to Heat Wave and Energy Ball. Sigi also has a great ability in Magic Guard meaning that it can easily switch in and counter Alomomola, just be careful off Knock Off and Mirror Coat. Sigi can also switch in on Blastoise and pressure it with Energy Ball. Sigi should be mainly switched in on toxics for Mola, and scalds for Snesel and Medicham. The Squad just needed a special wallbreaker that didn't lose special attack after a single draco.

THE SETS

Medicham @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Pure Power
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- High Jump Kick
- Drain Punch
- Psycho Cut
- Thunder Punch

This set is pretty standard, the only unstandard thing being Drain Punch over Trick and Psycho Cut over Zen Headbutt. Those are because I wanted to have a 100% accurate Fighting Move and wasn't using Trick that much. Psycho Cut Over ZenButt is basically the same thing. Medicham is a threat that people like using Alomomola as the switch in, but HJK does 48.5 - 57%. Just be wary of protect. In RU Fighting types run house on a lot of teams, and Medicham is of course one of the biggest threats to any team. Just weaken any Uxies, Granbulls, Aromatisses, and Slowkings and Medicham should preform great.

Alomomola @ Leftovers
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 120 HP / 136 Def / 252 SpD
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Wish
- Protect
- Scald
- Mirror Coat

Next up is the Pokemon that everyone loves to battle. The Evs are just to maximize Mola's overall bulk. Mola should be used throughout the match switching in and taking any hit that it is not weak too. Mola's main goal is to burn the foe to wear it down, since we don't have toxic on this set. Mola should also be used to wish pass to itself and all of its teammates that need it, like Registeel and if possible Sneasel from the LO damage recoil, amd even Medicham if you miss a HJK. Even though we don't have toxic, pretend to so special attackers are drawn in. Now that may seem bad, but remember we have mirror coat to blow back special attackers. Here are some nice calculations to show what we can take:
  • 252 SpA Life Orb Jolteon Thunderbolt vs. 120 HP / 252 SpD Alomomola: 424-502 (84.6 - 100.1%) -- 6.3% chance to OHKO
  • 252 SpA Choice Specs Magneton Volt Switch vs. 120 HP / 252 SpD Alomomola: 404-476 (80.6 - 95%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
  • 252 SpA Life Orb Venusaur Giga Drain vs. 120 HP / 252 SpD Alomomola: 330-393 (65.8 - 78.4%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
  • 252+ SpA Choice Specs Exploud Boomburst vs. 120 HP / 252 SpD Alomomola: 369-435 (73.6 - 86.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery

300px-Registeel_M08.png

Registeel @ Leftovers
Ability: Clear Body
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD
Calm Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Seismic Toss
- Toxic
- Stealth Rock
- Thunder Wave

Here is the Spedef tank of our team. Registeel is arguably the best Spedef Mon in the tier. Registeel works so well with Mola that they are often shipped as Regimola because of how annoying they are to take on. As mentioned earlier Registeel mainly lacks recovery that Mola is able to provide. One of the main things that takes down Mola is toxic, which Registeel can easily come in on. Registeel should be used to come in on any form of special attack that it is not weak too. It should also gets rocks up ASAP to witddle to opposing team every time they switch. The moves are pretty self explanatory. Seismic Toss for consecutive damage, Toxic to wear foes down, Stealth Rock to well... set up rocks, and T- Wave to spead para around the opposing team.

330-Flygon.png

Flygon @ Life Orb
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Draco Meteor
- Earth Power
- Defog
- Fire Blast
Special Flygon may not seem like a good way to run Flygon, since it only has 80 Base Special Attack, but it can hit pretty hard with STAB Draco Meteor and LO. Special Flygon is nice because it hits a lot of Physically Defensive Pokemon hard that usually switch in on Flygon, like Alomomola, Druddigon, and Blastoise. Fire Blast is there to hit the as before mentioned Escavelier and Venusaur
  • 252 SpA Life Orb Flygon Draco Meteor vs. 120 HP / 252 SpD Alomomola: 250-294 (49.9 - 58.6%) -- 68.8% chance to 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
  • 252 SpA Life Orb Flygon Draco Meteor vs. 236 HP / 0 SpD Druddigon: 437-515 (123.4 - 145.4%) -- guaranteed OHKO
  • 252 SpA Life Orb Flygon Draco Meteor vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Blastoise: 191-226 (52.7 - 62.4%) -- 98.8% chance to 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
Flygon is a nice defogger that should be used to punch wholes and deal out damage.

215-Sneasel.png

Sneasel @ Life Orb
Ability: Pickpocket
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Knock Off
- Icicle Crash
- Pursuit
- Low Kick
So Sneasel is one of the best Pokemon in RU right now, for good reason. It is the best revenge Pokemon, best Pursuit Trappers, and has AMAZING stab coverage. Who cares that it has terrible defensive typing, its not living any hits anyway. And Flygon is there to clear out the rocks for Sneasel. The set is simple and so is using Sneasel. If a Pokemon thats weak to Sneasel is on the field after KOing a team member, its pretty much going to die the next turn. On this team Sneasel is a good win con, since it outspeeds most of the tier, bar Jolteon and Accelgor, and hits pretty damn hard too.

tumblr_inline_obp2urTPHa1t88bbj_500.gif

Sigilyph @ Life Orb
Ability: Magic Guard
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Psychic
- Heat Wave
- Roost
- Energy Ball

This mon is very crucial to the team as it hits hard, can switch up moves, and fire off an array of coverage moves. This should be used to switch on on scalds, toxics, and any status bar the yellow magic(Para). A lot of teams struggle to completely wall this mon. Specially Defensive Registeel takes 34.3 - 40.6%. and that is a lot if its also switching in. Quick tip, a lot of people like switching in Glalie as a response to Sigi, before it megas. Ice Shard does 53.1 - 62.9%, So kill that monster with a quick heat wave.

CONCLUSION:
This team brought me up to as high as number 14 on the ladder, so it is one of my best teams, but its definitely not flawless. So make sure to look out for:
  • SD Absol: Make sure to not let this monster set up to much. I usually bring in my Registeel to para it, but make sure to play around its Sucker Punches
  • OTR Diancie: If Diancie manages to set up a Trick Room, and Registeel is weakened, you will have to bring in Mola to mirror coat it, but mind games will be brought up and problems will occur.
  • Scarf Flygon: This is only IF Mola gets knocked out. Flygon is faster than Sneasel and Medicham, so make sure to always keep Mola healthy.
  • Dragon Dance Scrafty: If it sets up one D-Dance, it outspeeds the whole team bar Scarf Medicham. The only thing that fully KOs it is a HJK, which if they have a ghost type, its kinda... all on predictions.

These 2 show how Medicham is a very viable win check if you get rid of the fighting resist on the opposing team.

I think Earthquake is superior than Earth Power on even special Flygon. An uninvested Earthquake does very slightly more damage than invested Earth Power against a Pokemon with equal bulk, and Earthquake does significantly more damage against Pokemon like Delphox, Registeel, and Diancie. Earthquake also doesn't get crippled after Draco Meteor is used.

Imo, your Alomomola set is really crippling its consistency. Mirror Coat specially defensive Alomomola is cool and has its place, but it's weird with a Registeel. All of the Pokemon you listed that can break through Alomomola can be checked with well with Registeel and other Pokemon on the team. A physically defensive spread of 104 HP / 252 Def+ / 154 SpD and Wish / Protect / Scald / Toxic would give your team a lot more breathing room against Fighting-types like Medicham and Sawk, which is way more important for your Alomomola slot than it being able to lure a Pokemon making a suboptimal play that you can beat with another member of your team. This also allows Alomomola to do a bit more against Scrafty but of course Scrafty is still a huge pain.

Using Ice Shard > Low Kick on Sneasel would be really nice insurance against random fast Pokemon like Jolteon, opposing Scarf Medi, Aerodactyl, etc. (and an out of control Scrafty and Absol!). Remember, Low Kick only has 60 BP against Scrafty, so Icicle Crash is better vs it anyways. Low Kick is mostly for Mega Glalie, Registeel, and Aggron, who I think you handle okay now anyways. Also, because you have a solid defensive core of Alomomola + Registeel, you may be able to get away with Choice Band > Life Orb on Sneasel, which helps it deal more significant damage to bulky Pokemon such as Blastoise and makes it not die so fast to Stealth Rock damage + Life Orb recoil.

If you don't mind getting rid of Sigilyph's longevity, a Sigilyph set of Calm Mind / Psychic / Heat Wave / Energy Ball (Dazzling Gleam) could be used to break walls harder. Not too sure about this change, as longevity is nice for Sigilyph's purpose on this team, but CM is a really nice corebreaker. Dazzling Gleam is worse at breaking but gives Scrafty one less set up opportunity. You could also use Air Slash > Psychic if you wanted to stop Scrafty from setting up on Sigilyph but that doesn't OHKO most of the time.

I think your team struggles answering fighting types like opposing Medicham, Sawk, or any set up Fighting types like DD/BU Scrafty or SD/BU Gallade (a bit more obscure I know, but still RU and something to consider). Your Fighting resist is an Offensive LO Sigilyph. Mola can likely handle Scarf Medi/Sawk so long as it keeps healthy, but it won't take much. For that reason, I have to also recommend altering the Alomomola set to what DTC suggested.

I would suggest trying Scald/Wish/Protect/Healing Wish as your set and making Sigilyph Psychic/Heat Wave/Dazzling Gleam/Calm Mind. This gives Sigi some more wall breaking power lets it or another threat on your team come back to full after getting whittled, if you still have some walls to break. If you go this route, dropping Drain Punch on Medicham for Baton Pass will help scout switch ins and let you bring in answers like Sneasel and Sigilyph

Not that I'm condoning Shadow Sneak Gallade which you tend to see lower on the ladder or once in a blue moon, but a SD/BU set with it can really tear through your team as well or better than a set up Scrafty since it has priority for Medi and Sigi. So be careful and scout for that if you can.
