Ok so this is my first post here, I hope this thread sticks to the rules. Since I'm
on a mobile device I will not be able to post images, sorry for that.
After a week researching and trying different teams and combinations I have finally managed to finish my first real and working competitive team. Theoretically it's not the firat team, but I think it's the only one I made so far that could really represent a threat to anyone. It was supposed to be an UU team, but ended up being OU. I still haven't managed to get the optimum combination of items yet, so I won't post those as they are mainly move enhancing items for now.
Mienshao
Ability: Regenerator
EV: +252 speed + 252 hp + 4 attack
Nature: + speed - special attack
- fake out
- brick break/stone edge
- hi jump kick
- u-turn
This is supposed to be my lead and scouter Pokemon. It will get some free damage from fake out and, depending on what I can learn from the opponent, will either switch out with some more free damage or stay and do as much damage as possible. Brick break should stop some walling in the middle of the match but stone edge screws flying types, which is also good. HJK is the main damage dealing move and STAB. What's really cool about this is that Mienshao can scout really easily and several times due to its ability and u-turn.
Depending on the situation I'll switch to one of the following two Pokemon.
Ferrothorn
Ability: Iron Barbs
EV: +252 hp +240 sp defense +12 defense
Nature: +sp defense -sp attack
- stealth rock
- power whip
- gyro ball
- explosion
This will be a mix between special wall and hazard layer. Instead of explosion I could give it iron defense, but it wouldn't be doing what it's supposed to do I guess.
After the traps are layed, and if the conditions allow me to, I'll switch to the next one.
Cofagrigus
Ability: Mummy
EV: +252 speed +252 hp + 4 defense
Nature: +speed -attack
- toxic
- will-o-wisp
- protect
- hex/shadow ball/energy ball
This is my inflictor. With toxic and will-o-wisp it should be able to affect every Pokemon in the other team and it'll
win time by using protect every two turns. Hex should be better than shadow ball once it's set up but shadow ball comes in handy for inmediate damage and when I get taunted, while energy ball is there to cover other types. I am personally leaning towards maintaining hex.
After everything's set up I'll send in my sweepers.
Haxorus
Ability: Mold Breaker
EV: +252 hp +252 attack +4 speed
Nature: +speed -sp attack
- dragon dance
- dragon claw
- dragon tail
- earthquake
I was undecided between hp and speed, but with this nature I get some boosted speed and can invest in his hp in order to set up dragon dance. Then I'll start using dragon claw and occasionally dragon tail if I want to get rid of a dangerous opponent or an annoying wall. This will also cause stealth rock to hurt them. Earthquake is to cover some weaknesses of the other guys, most importantly fire and rock. I'm
not using outrage anymore as I really don't like the confusion in the end.
Volcarona
Ability: Flame Body
EV: +252 sp attack +200 hp +52 speed
Nature: +sp attack -attack
- quiver dance
- heat wave
- bug buzz
- amnesia/solarbeam
Volcarona is my crazy special sweeper. With quiver dance it gets set up for some awesome killing with its two best moves. I am using amnesia at the moment but since qd gives me sp defense already I may replace amnesia with solarbeam to give me some type coverage against water and rock.
My final Pokemon is the other wall, which will be used to stall and win some time while dealing some status damage and healing my team.
Alomomola
Ability: Healer
EV: +252 defense +252 hp +4 attack
Nature: +defense -sp attack
- wish
- toxic
- protect
- waterfall
Since this one has got a huge hp stat it can heal my whole team with wish. In the meantime it can also stall and do the same as Cofagrigus by using toxic and protect. In order to not be tauted I have taught it waterfall, which I really don't like because it's a HM, but it's the best physical water move.
This is my team. Thanks for reading this far. I know I'm supposed to post a threat list, but I haven't been able to go online to test this team yet as my internet connection isn't supported by the ds I'm playing with now. In a few days the other ds should come back and I should be able to test the team. I have obviously used it in the game, but the trainers there aren't very good in order to identify genuine threats.
These are the two main problems I have found in the team:
- Houndoom or any combination between fire and dark will result in my whole strategy with cofagrigus and ferrothorn being ruined if I can't beat it with Mienshao at the start. If these Pokemon come later then it's no problem as Haxorus will take care of them.
- stealth rock ruins my special sweeper. I can fix that with Alomomola, but still a big problem.
Thanks for reading and I hope you are as hard as possible with your criticism and that you can help me sharpen my team!
Cheers!
