Gengar @ Black Sludge
Ability: Normalize
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
IVs: 0 Atk
Timid Nature
- Skill Swap
- Mean Look
- Shadow Ball
- Toxic Spikes / Toxic

Normalize, one of the worst abilities in Pokemon, finds a surprising niche in AAA as a devious method of removing special walls, especially normally hard-to-wear-down RegenVest pivots. Conventional Gengar sets like Sheer Force are typically checked by RegenVest users like Manaphy and Swampert, but Normalize Gengar flips the matchup. As the RegenVest user switches in to tank an attack and pivot out, Gengar can hit it with Mean Look followed by Skill Swap, leaving it powerless to switch, pivot, or touch Gengar as it sets up Toxic Spikes and slowly KOes it with Shadow Ball. Gengar can also threaten switches against anything slower than it, reliably forcing out slow setup threats like Iron Hands and Stamina Calm Mind Primarina, and pairs well with Spikes users like Ogerpon-W. Other special attackers like Deoxys-S and Gholdengo appreciate RegenVest users being removed. It also appreciates being brought in by a physical pivot like Roaring Moon so it does not reveal its set when luring in the RegenVest user. Normalize Gengar must be played aggressively, as it typically only gets one chance to trap; after the strategy is revealed, it's reduced to "only" a disruptor and entry hazard setter.

Normalize is one of the worst abilities in Pokemon but finds a surprising niche in AAA as a devious method of removing opposing RegenVest pivots I mean it's also generally good at trapping other defensive pieces but if you wanna focus on mainly RegenVest mons that's fine. Conventional Gengar sets like Sheer Force are typically best checked by RegenVesters RegenVest users Gut feeling said this looked more correct; feel free to ignore if the former wording is fine like Manaphy and Swampert, (AC) which are also notoriously difficult to wear down; as they switch in, they get tagged with Mean Look, then hit with Skill Swap Normalize, and are unable to touch Gengar or pivot out as they watch Toxic Spikes go up and are slowly chipped to death by Shadow Ball (if your opponent doesn’t immediately forfeit) The latter part of this sentence is a bit hard to digest/read (starting after the semicolon), would consider rewording some parts to make it a bit easier to read, so the structure is something like "then hit with Skill Swap Normalize, allowing Gengar to trap them and get up Toxic Spikes before slowly chipping them to death" or whatever that'd look like with proper grammar. Also you forgot to mention Toxic like, at all. Gengar can also rack up switches against anything slower than it, reliably forcing out slow setup threats like Iron Hands and those stupid Stamina Calm Mind Primarina you see on ladder. Gengar pairs well with other special attackers like Deoxys-S and Gholdengo, that appreciate opposing RegenVest users being removed, ie all of them (but especially Deoxys-S and Gholdengo). Normalize Gengar must be played aggressively, as it typically only gets one chance to trap; after the strategy is revealed, it’s reduced to “only” a disruptor and entry hazard setter. It also appreciates being brought in by a physical pivot like Roaring Moon so it does not reveal its set when luring in the RegenVest user.

Normalize is one of the worst abilities in Pokemon but finds a surprising niche in AAA as a devious method of removing opposing special walls, especially the hard-to-wear-down-normally normally hard-to-wear-down RegenVest pivots. Conventional Gengar sets like Sheer Force are typically best checked by RegenVest users like Manaphy and Swampert, but Normalize Gengar flips the matchup. As the RegenVest user switchs switches in (RC) expecting to tank an attack and pivot out, Gengar can hit them it with Mean Look followed by Skill Swap, leaving them powerless to switch, pivot, or touch Gengar as it sets up Toxic Spikes and slowly KOes them with Shadow Ball. Gengar can also rack up threaten switches against anything slower than it, reliably forcing out slow setup threats like Iron Hands and those stupid Stamina Calm Mind Primarina, (AC) you see on ladder soory removed for char count and pairing pairs well with Spikes users like Ogerpon-W. Gengar pairs well with other special attackers like Deoxys-S and Gholdengo (RC) that appreciate opposing RegenVest users being removed. Normalize Gengar must be played aggressively, as it typically only gets one chance to trap; after the strategy is revealed, it’s it's reduced to "only" ASCII a disruptor and entry hazard setter. It also appreciates being brought in by a physical pivot like Roaring Moon so it does not reveal its set when luring in the RegenVest user.

Marnie can I put this back in? would go from 1052 to 1077 if yes, respect your decision if no, done either way

Would trim stuff down around a bit in general since it's a bit over the limit but since this is normgar i'll let it slide (if you really want to then you can keep that in sure)
