Abomasnow is a staple on dedicated hail teams because it provides a switchin to Zygarde-10% and a consistent check to bulky Water-types like Seismitoad and Milotic on an archetype that needs as much defensive compression as possible. However, outside of this small niche, it is completely outclassed by Vanilluxe as an Aurora Veil setter or wallbreaker. Leaf Storm lets Abomasnow threaten Pokemon like Rhyperior and Gastrodon. With 16 Atk EVs, Ice Shard OHKOs Zygarde-10% and can pick off weakened Pokemon like Noivern and Zarude. Abomasnow can take advantage of the Pokemon it checks to support its teammates with Aurora Veil or chip its counters like Metagross and Registeel with Earth Power. Abomasnow's EV spread ensures it is 4HKO'd by Thousand Arrows and survives a Stone Edge from full from Zygarde-10%.
Full hail teams generally have rigid structures. Arctozolt and Arctovish are required for any dedicated hail team, as they become immensely threatening under hail and cover each others checks excellently. The remaining three slots should aim to cover weaknesses as much as possible while maintaining momentum and offensive pressure. Hazard control is extremely important as hail teams often feature multiple Pokemon with Rock weaknesses, so Pokemon like Volcanion, Starmie, Noivern, and Xatu are necessary. Hazard setters like Klefki, Stakataka, or Necrozma provide defensive utility while chipping the opposing team. Pokemon that can take advantage of common scarfers, such as Barbaracle or Mimikyu, should be run to dissuade the opponent from revenge killing the hail core and take advantage of their wallbreaking to clean if the opportunity presents itself.
