Ace Attorney: Perfect Prosecutor.

For those that are fans of the AA games you may be keeping up with the news. For those that haven't been keeping up, a new game Gyatuken Kenji (translated as Perfect Prosecutor for convenience) is currently in development.

This game is different from what we are used to. Instead of playing as a defense attorney you now play as Edgeworth. The game is divided into several phases for each stage.

Investigation Phase
Investigating the crime scene (and other areas) for clues, taking evidence into the court record. Unlike in the normal AA games, it sounds like if you find a contradiction during this investigation phase, you can present pieces of evidence to something in the scene.

Logic Mode
Once you think you have enough pieces of "information" you proceed to Logic Mode, where you combine evidence and info to try and solve how the crime was committed. First, you walk around the crime scene looking for information. You press the A button to investigate a suspisious looking spot. The information you get from this is put on the "logic panel" on the bottom screen. For example, searching around Edgeworth's office gets you a bubble asking "Why was the murder commited in my officed? What was the criminal after?" This is stored as a little logic nugget on your panel.

When you have enough information you go to Logic Mode, where you click on two different pieces of information (or information and evidence, or two pieces of evidence etc) and then choose "combine." If the combination is successful, you see a little scene and the investigation is able to progress. In the scanned example "The criminal's motive" is combined with "the murder weapon" which prompts Edgeworth to talk to Gumshoe and move the case along.

If you try to combine two pieces of evidence/information that are not meant to go together, you take damage from a "truth meter" that just happens to look exactly like the green lifebar from court. Deplete the entire bar and you get game over.

Confrontation
Confront people related to the cases by listening to their story and presenting evidence when they contradict themselves. The article describes this as being almost exactly the same as the cross examination phases in any other AA game.

Several old characters will be returning

Edgeworth
Maggey Byrde
Gumshoe
Von Karma

As well as several new faces

Mikumo Ichijou (Edgeworth's teen sidekick)
Two rivals: Makoto Yuuki, and Shiryuu Rou.

Sounds fun, I'm definitely getting it. I'm not clicking those links, because I want this to be the first GS game I play without havin the story spoiled.

The scan site I linked to has no real spoilers. It has what I posted in this thread (basic info), and the scans (which are both in Japanese and nothing more than character bios.) There is no real danger in checking out the first site.

The demo technically does have spoilers. It is a sneak peak of the first investigation. You could try and mess around without reading the translation page. That way you can see what it will look like without having anything spoiled.

I've been a big fan of the Phoenix Wright series, so I can surely say I'm looking forward to this game. It will be interesting to play from the Prosecutor's side, and I wonder if Phoenix will make a cameo appearance.
