Basically, I feel like we need sample teams and explanations for formats on Showdown itself. Some tiers have sample teams on the forums, but quite a few don't, which makes it really hard to get into a metagame. However, even if every tier had quality sample teams on the forums, the sad truth is that the majority of people who play Showdown don't go to the forums. Most don't even know they exist. While some of the metas are kind of self explanatory, a whole lot aren't. If I hadn't seen an Elo Bandit video, I likely still wouldn't know what 1v1 is. An explanation would absolutely help that, and sample teams help another huge problem. Now, even if we implemented the explanation, just because I know what something is doesn't mean I know what's good with it. If you're a singles player, you won't know that something like protect and fake out are fantastic in doubles because they're not nearly as good in singles. And if you know that, you still don't know what abuses things like fake out and intimidate the best. It leads to a really high barrier of entry, especially if you're a newer player. I feel like the lack of explanations is what leads to the overcentralization of tiers like OU and Ubers, as they are kinda self explanatory. I have personally deliberately avoided tiers before because they have a lack of information, which is a huge shame. And I'm one of the people who know about the forums and use it as a resource. I can't imagine what it must be like getting into a new metagame without the forums of the pokedex, especially as a casual player.
Well now that I've explained my reasoning, it's about time that I explain the theoretical execution. The best way to do is to probably make it a drop down menu that is selectable after you pick a tier, off to the side of the validate button. Another way to do it is to have it take you to a new screen with the explanation of the tier, similar to how selecting the "Add Pokemon" button works. Another problem is actually getting the sample teams for the tiers that don't already have one, but there's an easy fix. Just make it optional to have the sample teams. This makes it way easier on anyone who wants to implement this because you just have to pull from already existing information, or if the hypothetical programmer is feeling especially motivated, just ask the tier leaders. Almost every tier already has an available description, whether on the forums or on the tiers section of the pokedex. I give this explanation because I don't wanna be the guy who has all the ideas for how to fix everything but isn't willing to help in the process.
I just want to state that I'm NOT a programmer, although I do know about the general methods of coding, so this might be impossible for some technical reason, although I cannot think of any that would prevent this from working, nor can I think of any kind of downside to doing this except for the fact that it would take a developer willing to do all this. I think this would greatly improve both the amount of people who become involved with the community and would greatly diversify amount tiers are played.
I looked through quite a few pages of the suggestions and didn't see it, but if someone else has already suggested this but got rejected, please tell me.
