So someone just ragequit against me because their Marshadow didn't have Sash, and they thought it would because I guess it's always been in a lead spot before now so they thought Sash was the only item it could get. Considering we now have this guide that explains set generation in Gen 8 Rands, I feel like sticking this at the top of the battle log like we do in SSB4 could be a nice way to make rands more newcomer-friendly in an unobtrusive manner. Of course, this matters less in this scenario because the opponent could have just checked their Pokémon's set, but if I had the Marshadow he would have been playing around it assuming it's sashed the entire battle.

Similarly to there, you can also include the /randbats command in the box to remind people that that exists, and could perhaps have an announcement pointing out the existence of that command in oldgen rands too.

The thing is, Staff Bros needs the guide because these custom moves and abilities are effectively unknown to the player unless you take the time to read it or /dt everything (or yeah the /ssb command). I genuinely do not think this is as apt of a comparison as you think it is.

Oh I definitely agree that it’s more required in Staff Bros, but I still think it has virtue in randbats as well. I included the screenshot of Staff Bros just to point out how it would look and how unobtrusive it is. Outside of technical reasons beyond my cognition to do with server maintenance and stuff, I think this is just a simple and easy thing to do that provides mild benefits and no downsides, it wasn’t a case of “well ssb has it so so should rands”. I don’t mind that much if it happens or not.

Like I almost included a suggestion for battles in tiered formats to also have a link to the Smogon resource compendium for each format, since those compendiums have links to teambuilding facilities like viability rankings and speed tiers that would probably see an overall increase in quality of battles on ladders. I still think that would be a good idea, but is also even less required than the rands guide being linked, and is harder to justify including since those resources constantly change whereas articles are published and left untouched.

Fair enough, maybe putting it here would be better then(?)
