- Blissey is graced with the combination of reliable recovery + Thunder Wave, which means it can often just sit there spreading Paralysis and Seismic Toss chip with ease.
- Blissey is often left with plenty of free turns as it isn’t that immediately threatening, so Light Screen lets Blissey support the team and makes it even more difficult to kill. In the late game, Seismic Toss is a spectacular tool for reliably finishing off chipped mons and knocking mons into range of a teammates attack and can single handedly beat Special wincons such as Celebi and Offensive Suicune.
- Counter allows Blissey to punish the likes of Tauros and Metagross trying to remove it to enable their Special Attackers, and Protect helps Blissey position better against Double-Ups and letting a partner set up Screens
- Blissey is one of the best Paralysis eaters in the format, being able to switch in and out of Thunder Waves without risk of being crippled for the rest of the game thanks to Natural Cure.
- Blissey is quite flexible as a Paralysis spreader as it functions quite well in both the Lead slot and Mid-Game and easily baits in Tauros that can be easily dispatched with Thunder Wave, which makes Partners such as Gyarados and Raikou significantly more threatening in the late game.
- Like most Special attackers, Blissey really appreciates Intimidate support from the likes of Tauros and Gyarados and helps remove threats such as Zapdos that would otherwise give them trouble.
- It also happens to struggle quite a bit into sand, so partners such as Swampert and Starmie help in the Tyranitar Match-up quite a bit.
- Blissey has one of the most positive matchups into rain in the entire format thanks to its monstrous Special Bulk and being able to easily stall out weather turns with the combination of Light Screen/Protect + Soft Boiled and easily crippling the sweepers with Paralysis

- Thunderbolt and Ice Beam are excellent coverage moves for Blissey and lets it hit the likes of Starmie, Gyarados and Zapdos for reliable Super Effective damage. Blissey’s tendency to invite in Metagross, Registeel and Regice for free makes Flamethrower a great option to get the jump on them as they set up or spread Status.
Soft Boiled lets Blissey set up Calm Minds and easily recover off chip damage - 216 Modest OHKOes Starmie at +1 with Thunderbolt and 2HKOes Offensive Zapdos holding Leftovers with Ice Beam. The Defence investment lets it tank 2 Tauros earthquakes or 2 Returns after Intimidate.
- Speed invest lets it creep offensive Marowak and non-quiet variants of Swampert
- Calm Mind Blissey is generally used over Celebi as a Calm Mind wincon on teams in part of Celebi being threatened by Arcanine and Regice a lot more because of Celebi’s Mediocre SpD before a Calm Mind Boost and Blissey being a lot more flexible coverage-wise.
- Blissey is generally best in an endgame scenario where your opponent has lost the majority of their Physical attackers; so it can capitalise off its huge Special Defence and set up with ease.
Blissey really appreciates Intimidate support to help set up, so Tauros is an excellent partner for it as Blissey easily picks off the mons that Tauros struggles against, such as Raikou, Starmie and Registeel. - Blissey’s wide coverage options enable it to support many Physical Attackers such as Marowak, Swampert and Salamence. Notably, Blissey very much dislikes facing Hariyama and Swampert - so Heal Bell Celebi thrives next to it and also combats Blissey’s problem with Paralysis spam.
