[SET COMMENTS]
Koffing is a great defensive answer to physical attackers and Grass-types like Meditite, Gloom, and Tropius thanks to its good physical bulk, Poison typing, and Levitate. Sludge Bomb threatens offensive Pokemon like Aipom, Seaking, and Doduo and prevents frailer special attackers that would otherwise threaten Koffing like Abra, Quilava, and Elekid from switching in safely. Hidden Power Water 2HKOes Anorith, is likely to 2HKO Cubone, and OHKOes Rhyhorn. Alternatively, Hidden Power Grass hits Corsola hard and retains a good matchup against Cubone and Rhyhorn. Will-O-Wisp debilitates physical attackers like Aipom, Meditite, and Doduo. Flamethrower is a less passive alternative to break Beedrill's Substitute, prevent Magnemite from switching in, and hit Gloom and Ariados harder. Pain Split is Koffing's only recovery option besides Leftovers, but its low base HP means Pain Split gives it decent longevity and easily wears down healthy and high-HP foes like Noctowl, Tropius, and Rhyhorn. A Relaxed nature ensures Koffing's power isn't hindered while trading off Speed that is mostly useless given Koffing usually goes second against most foes, and outspeeding Corsola is less important than losing out on extra power on Hidden Power Grass.

Koffing is a good fit for balance and defensive teams thanks to it taking on prominent physical attackers like Aipom, Doduo, and Meditite. Pokemon that struggle against Gloom and Tropius such as Corsola, Wartortle, and Chinchou greatly appreciate Koffing. Delcatty is a standout partner, as it complements Koffing with its special bulk, can keep Koffing healthy with Wish, and appreciates Koffing neutralizing Pokemon like Gloom, Tropius, and Meditite that could overwhelm it. Koffing's vulnerability to special attackers like Abra, Ponyta, and Quilava makes special walls like Porygon, Drowzee, and Noctowl great options to form defensve cores with Koffing, as they appreciate it taking on physical attackers like Seaking and Anorith. Offensive teammates like Aipom, Ponyta, and Quilava love Koffing debilitating other offensive Pokemon so that they can more easily clean up weakened teams. Setup sweepers like Beedrill and Anorith are enabled by Koffing softening up teams for them, and they can take advantage of burned Pokemon for easier setup opportunities.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

Memento can enable teammates like Beedrill, Drowzee, and Anorith to more safely set up. Destiny Bond can force a trade with offensive Pokemon like Aipom, Quilava, and Ponyta, but Koffing prefers sticking around as a wall rather than trading, and Explosion is less prediction-reliant at this role. Koffing can fit on rain teams as a weather setter with Explosion.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Corsola**: Corsola totally walls Koffing and can use it as setup fodder for Calm Mind. Thanks to Natural Cure, Corsola can absorb status from Will-O-Wisp or a Sludge Bomb poison and heal it off by switching out. However, Corsola must be wary of switching into Hidden Power Grass, as it will be forced to use Recover.

**Psychic-types and Psychic-type Coverage**: Abra, Drowzee, and Smoochum easily dispatch Koffing with STAB Psychic, as do less common Psychic-types like Exeggcute and Spoink. However, Abra and Smoochum cannot take a single Sludge Bomb, and other Psychic-types do not want to risk poison while switching into it. Ariados easily takes Sludge Bomb and threatens Koffing with Psychic, but it prefers not to take a Will-O-Wisp or Flamethrower.

**Fire-types**: Ponyta, Quilava, and Magby can take advantage of Will-O-Wisp and switch in to threaten Koffing out, though they don't enjoy taking Sludge Bomb.

**Special Attackers**: Flaaffy, Elekid, and Wartortle require minimal chip damage to KO Koffing thanks to its lower special bulk, though Elekid and other frail special attackers like Chinchou and Staryu don't switch into Sludge Bomb comfortably.

**Substitute Users**: Tentacool, Beedrill and Anorith can utilize Substitute to avoid Will-O-Wisp and use Koffing as setup fodder. Flamethrower and Hidden Power Water can respectively break the Substitutes of Beedrill and Anorith though.

Koffing is a great defensive answer to foes like Gloom, Tropius, and Meditite I would specify that Koffing is a great check to physical attackers and Grass-types thanks to its good physical bulk, Poison typing, and Levitate. Sludge Bomb threatens offensive Pokemon like Aipom, Seaking, and Doduo. Frail special attackers like Abra, Quilava, and Elekid are deterred from switching in thanks to Sludge Bomb. Combine these two sentences, since they generally have the same point about Sludge Bomb hitting offensive Pokemon Hidden Power Water 2HKOes Anorith, is likely to 2HKO Cubone, and OHKOes Rhyhorn. Alternatively, Hidden Power Grass hits Corsola hard and retains a good matchup against Cubone and Rhyhorn. Will-O-Wisp debilitates physical attackers like Aipom, Meditite, and Doduo. (might be good to mention that you notably dont move before corsola, but moving faster and hitting it with hp grass first isnt more important than losing out on attack power)

Koffing is a great defensive answer to physical attackers and Grass-types like Gloom Meditite, Tropius Gloom, and Meditite Tropius (keeps the lists parallel - in list 1 you talk about physical attackers before grass-types, so for ease of understanding, list 2 needs to follow the order with the examples) thanks to its good physical bulk, Poison typing, and Levitate. Sludge Bomb threatens offensive Pokemon like Aipom, Seaking, and Doduo and prevents frailer special attackers that would otherwise threaten Koffing like Abra, Quilava, and Elekid from switching in safely.
