IVs: 2 Atk / 30 Def / 30 SpA

- Hidden Power Water
- Substitute
- Toxic / Thunder Wave

[SET COMMENTS]
Magnemite acts as a bulky status spreader that can use its Steel typing to take advantage of passive Pokemon such as Gloom, defensive Mightyena, and Delcatty by chipping them down with Toxic and setting up Substitute. Hidden Power Water threatens Ground-types such as Rhyhorn and Onix. Substitute is useful against Pokemon that can't touch Magnemite such as Gloom and can be used to avoid Thunder Wave. Using Substitute allows Magnemite to rack up more Toxic damage while also letting it go for a paralysis if using Thunder Wave. Toxic helps break through walls like Porygon and Drowzee and is Magnemite's only good option against Chinchou. Thunder Wave hinders faster foes like Aipom and Volbeat and punishes Toxic-immune Pokemon like Gloom and Dustox. The Speed investment allows Magnemite to outspeed maximum Speed Cubone and Clamperl as well as defensive Noctowl sets, allowing Magnemite secure a 3HKO against it. The bulk investment allows Magnemite's Substitute to survive Hidden Power Grass from both Gloom and Koffing.

Frail sweepers like Abra appreciate Magnemite's ability to spread status, as it chips down walls such as Porygon or paralyzes potential threats such as Doduo, Aipom, and Elekid. Allies that struggle with passive Pokemon like Drowzee appreciate Magnemite's capability to set up on them, as it is able to chip the foes down with Toxic and set up Substitute for free. Fire-types like Ponyta and Quilava appreciate Magnemite removing Water-types like Clamperl and Wartortle with ease. Faster foes that run Hidden Power Ground such as Doduo are an issue for Magnemite, since they easily OHKO it. Physical walls like Koffing and Lileep can switch in on these threats and threaten them back. Cubone is bulky enough to survive Hidden Power Water, and it can retaliate with a powerful Ground-type attack. Ground-immune Pokemon such as Koffing and Tropius are helpful because they gladly switch into Ground-type attacks. Fire-types like Ponyta can also easily blow through Magnemite, so Water-types like Wartortle and special walls like Porygon can help by safely switching in on a Fire Blast. Bulky Electric-immune or -resistant Pokemon like Chinchou, Flaaffy, and Gloom can be difficult for Magnemite to handle because they exert enough pressure to outlast Toxic or are just immune to its moves. Powerful wallbreakers like Aipom can help KO or significantly chunk these threats. Magnemite is able to use its defensive typing to assist allies that struggle with Pokemon such as Beedrill and Porygon.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

Instead of Hidden Power Water, Magnemite can run Hidden Power Ice. This helps a lot with overwhelming Grass-types like Gloom. Hidden Power Ice does miss some key OHKOs though, notably against Rhyhorn and Onix. Hidden Power Grass can still achieve these KOs while having the added benefit of beating Chinchou, but it can struggle against Fire-types like Ponyta and Quilava.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Fire-types**: Fire-types such as Ponyta and Quilava can easily outspeed and OHKO Magnemite.

**Gloom**: Gloom can outlast all of Magnemite's attacks and can chip it down with Leech Seed, but defensive Gloom sets will need assistance in taking down Magnemite, especially if Magnemite has a Substitute up.

**Electric-types**: Electric-type Pokemon such as Chinchou and Fire Punch Elekid are issues for Magnemite, easily taking a Thunderbolt while firing back with Surf or a super effective Fire Punch.

**Bulky Ground-types**: Bulky Ground-types that can survive Hidden Power Water such as Cubone and Onix are able to switch in on Electric-type attacks and retaliate with super effective Ground-type attacks.

**Fast Attackers**: Powerful and fast attackers that have ways to threaten Magnemite such as Doduo and Meditite can easily outspeed and OHKO Magnemite with Hidden Power Ground and Brick Break, respectively.

Magnemite acts as a bulky status spreader that can easily take in STAB attacks from many Pokemon such as Doduo and Aipom (CB D-Edge from Doduo and Aipom 2HKOes Magnemite. Explain that Magnemite takes advantage of passive Pokemon to set up, and give some examples). Thunderbolt is the only STAB option, doing good damage all around. (You don't need to explain basic STAB moves in analyses) Hidden Power Water threatens Ground-types such as Rhyhorn and Onix. Substitute is useful when calling out a switch, allowing for more recovery with Leftovers. Toxic gets chip damage throughout the game, helping helps break through walls like Mightyena Porygon and Drowzee (Add that it's Magnemite's only good move against Chinchou). Thunder Wave can be used instead to hinder faster opponents like Aipom and Abra Volbeat (Magnemite may often be better off just attacking Abra outright. Also highlight that Twave punishes Toxic immunities like Gloom, Dustox). (Add a part, either here or for each status, on how Substitute synergizes with each status move) The bulk allows Magnemite to survive Rain boosted Hydro Pump from Seaking and Fire Punch from Flaafy (Magnemite's bulk is its dump stat, but it's enough to let its Sub survive against Koffing's HP, Gloom's HP, ) while outspeeding max Speed Cubone and Clamperl (I'd add that it's specifically enough to creep specially defensive Noctowl and 3HKO it).

(First, mention Pokemon that benefit from Magnemite spreading status, going into more depth on the benefits of Toxic and TWave for cleaners and setup sweepers. Also mention Pokemon that appreciate Magnemite's ability to take advantage of and set up on passive foes.) Fire-types like Ponyta and Quilava appreciate Magnemite, as it can remove Water-types like Clamperl and Wartortle with ease. Magnemite also helps out sweepers like Abra, chipping down bulky Pokemon like Porygon with Toxic. Faster foes that run Hidden Power Ground such as Doduo are a issue for Magnemite, easily OHKOing it (Mention checks to these faster Pokemon like Doduo that threaten Magnemite). Cubone is also bulky enough to survive Hidden Power Water, retaliating with a powerful Ground-type attack. Fire-types like Ponyta can also easily blow through Magnemite. Ground-immune Pokemon Physical walls like Koffing, Mightyena, and physically defensive Lileep or Dustox can help out, as they can switch in and take a Hidden Power Ground or an attack from Cubone (I'd highlight how physical attackers like Koffing can help Magnemite out against specifically threatening physical attackers like Meditite and Lileep vs Doduo). Water-types like Wartortle or special walls like Porygon can take Fire Blast for Magnemite. (Reorder these last four sentences so you describe the checks that partner with Magnemite after each Pokemon that threatens it, so Cubone -> checks to Cubone, then Fire-types -> checks to Fire-types. Also, mention some partners that can deal with Pokemon Magnemite can't break through on its own, like Chinchou, Flaaffy, and Gloom)

(This is the only Magnemite set, so you'll need to add sections for Other Options and Checks and Counters)

Magnemite can run Rain Dance to set rain, boosting allies and the power of Hidden Power, although this comes at the cost of Magnemite losing its ability to comfortably beat passive Pokemon, dropping either a status move or Substitute. Reflect can also work to help beat physical attackers, but also comes at the same cost. (Just mention here how HP Ice can help Magnemite overwhelm Gloom and HP Grass lets it beat Chinchou while still beating Ground types)

Checks and Counters
===================

**Fire-types**: Fire-types such as Ponyta and Quilava can easily outspeed and OHKO Magnemite.

**Gloom**: Gloom can outlast all of Magnemite's attacks and can chip it down with Leech Seed. (Mention that defensive Gloom can't beat Magnemite by themselves, especially if it gets a Substitute up)

**FlaaffyElectric-types**: Flaaffy outspeeds Magnemite and threatens it with Fire Punch, while also removing status effects with Heal Bell and resisting Thunderbolt. (Mention Chinchou and Fire Punch Elekid here)

Hidden Power Water threatens Ground-types such as Rhyhorn and Onix. Substitute is useful when calling out a switch, allowing for more recovery with Leftovers (this isnt really true because you lose health in the process. i would just swap the end part with something like how it can sub on certain pokemon that cant touch it + helps it dodge status moves from other users). Toxic helps break through walls like Porygon and Drowzee, while also being Magnemite's only good option into Chinchou. Thunder Wave can be used instead to hinder faster opponents like Aipom and Volbeat. Thunder Wave also punishes Toxic-immune Pokemon like Gloom and Dustox. Using Substitute allows Magnemite to rack up more Toxic damage, while also letting Magnemite fish for a paralysis, if using Thunder Wave (this sentence should directly follow the first main sentence above about sub). the Speed investment allows Magnemite to outspeed max Speed Cubone and Clamperl, while the bulk allows Magnemite's Substitute to survive Hidden Power Grass from both Gloom and Koffing the Speed investment allows Magnemite to outspeed max Speed Cubone and Clamperl. The Speed stat also speed creeps defensive Noctowl sets, letting Magnemite secure a 3HKO (just add "defensive Noctowl" to the sentence with clamp and cubone).

Frail sweepers like Abra appreciate Magnemite's ability to spread status, chipping down walls such as Porygon or paralyzing potential threats such as Doduo, Aipom, and Elekid. Other Pokemon that struggle with passive Pokemon like Drowzee appreciate Magnemite's capability to set up on passive foes, chipping them down and setting up Substitute (this sentence is a bit too hard to follow, can you clean this up?).
