Mixed (Seaking) @ Leftovers
Ability: Water Veil
EVs: 252 HP / 176 Atk / 20 SpD / 60 Spe
Lonely Nature
- Hydro Pump
- Megahorn
- Hidden Power Rock
- Protect

[SET COMMENTS]
Seaking's good mixed coverage, power, and bulk make it a supreme offensive threat in ADV ZU. Hydro Pump 2HKOes Koffing and is very threatening to Cubone, Mightyena, and Rhyhorn. Megahorn drills through specially bulky Pokemon such as Castform, Drowzee, and Lileep, and it's stronger and more reliable than Hydro Pump against Mightyena if Seaking hasn't been affected by Intimidate. Hidden Power Rock nails Noctowl and Dustox; lacks the shaky accuracy of Hydro Pump to reliably hit Ponyta, Anorith, and Quilava; and keeps Seaking threatening to certain Swords Dance sweepers like Beedrill and Tentacool. Protect maximizes Seaking's passive recovery from Leftovers and allows it to scout Choice Band users like Aipom, Doduo, and Meditite. Water Veil helps Seaking stand out from other physical attackers with its immunity to Koffing's Will-O-Wisp, enabling it to take advantage of it. The given Speed investment lets mixed Seaking outspeed base 35 Speed and slower Pokemon like Cubone and Clamperl, neutral-natured base 40 Speed Pokemon like Ariados, and uninvested base 70 Speed Pokemon like Noctowl and Mightyena. 176 Attack EVs are necessary to 2HKO Noctowl and for a 91.8% chance to 2HKO Dustox, while the rest of Seaking's EVs are put into its bulk to increase its resilience to Ponyta and Quilava.

Seaking is a great fit for offense and bulky offense teams looking for a Pokemon with great offensive qualities and a solid defensive backbone. Fast sweeper teammates like Ponyta, Abra, and Aipom benefit from Seaking breaking holes in teams for them to clean up. Tropius, Gloom, Beedrill, and other physical attackers appreciate Seaking taking on Koffing for them, and in return, they threaten opposing Gloom, Corsola and Tropius for it. Koffing covers Seaking's poor matchups against Gloom and Tropius, while Seaking handles Ponyta and Quilava. Corsola is a particularly bad matchup for Seaking given it isn't 3HKOed by any of its moves and can heal off any damage, so partners that threaten it like Gloom, Tropius, and Flaaffy can cover for Seaking.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

Ice Beam is an option to deal greater damage to Tropius and Gloom, but it has significant overlap with Megahorn's coverage and is weaker than Hidden Power Rock against Noctowl, and mixed Seaking struggles to fit it over Protect in order to maximize its longevity. Seaking can run a special rain sweeper set with a Lum Berry, Ice Beam, and Hidden Power Grass, but this set struggles against specially bulky Pokemon like Castform, Noctowl, and Delcatty.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Corsola**: Great physical bulk and Recover enable Corsola to sit on even Choice Band Seaking, and though Corsola is quite passive, it can set up on Seaking with Calm Mind.

**Gloom and Tropius**: Both Gloom and Tropius take neutral damage from Megahorn and can stave off Seaking with their bulkier sets or set up on it with Sunny Day to obliterate it with Solar Beam.

**Electric-types**: Chinchou, Flaaffy, and Elekid threaten Seaking with Thunderbolt, but only Flaaffy can threaten to OHKO Choice Band Seaking. All of the aforementioned Electric-types risk being OHKOed by Choice Band Seaking's strongest attacks, so they cannot switch in safely. Magnemite has a decent chance to survive two hits from Choice Band Seaking's physical attacks and deals significant damage with Thunderbolt but fails to KO Seaking on its own.

**Faster Physical Wallbreakers**: Choice Band users like Aipom, Meditite, and Doduo outspeed and threaten to KO Seaking, though they don't switch into it safely.

**Status**: Though Water Veil gives Seaking a burn immunity, Toxic from foes like Corsola, Quilava, and Mightyena chips away at its otherwise great bulk. Paralysis leaves Seaking prone to being revenge killed by slower Pokemon like Clamperl and Cubone.

Megahorn drills through specially bulky Pokemon such as Castform, Drowzee, and Lileep. Hidden Power Rock nails Noctowl and Dustox Dustox deserves mention for its ability to check Megahorn/Hydro and for the 176 Atk EV investment being for HP Rock 2HKO benchmark, which said EVs should also be brought up, lacks the shaky accuracy of Hydro Pump for hitting Ponyta, Anorith, and Quilava, and keeps Seaking threatening to Swords Dance sweepers like Beedrill and Tentacool. Protect maximizes Seaking's passive recovery from Leftovers and allows it to scout Choice Band users like Aipom, Doduo, and Meditite. Emphasize how bad of an mu Corsola is here.

**Electric-types**: Chinchou, Flaaffy, and Elekid threaten Seaking with STAB-boosted Thunderbolt, but only Flaaffy can threaten to OHKO Choice Band Seaking are unsafe switch-ins to Seaking. Not sure what this last part means Magnemite has a decent chance to survive a 2HKO from Choice Band Seaking's physical attacks and deals significant damage with Thunderbolt but fails to KO Seaking on its own.

Mention how status affects Seaking: paralysis makes it easy to revenge kill, and Toxic makes it great bulk way less effective

(a list (x, y, and z) couldn't work in the last sentence because each item had to start with a verb here, couldn't quite do that with the mixed Seaking part without rewriting heavily) Seaking can run a specially offensive special rain sweeper set with a Lum Berry, Ice Beam, and Hidden Power Grass, but this set struggles against specially bulky Pokemon like Castform, Noctowl, and Delcatty.
