Session 1 Start

"How did I get here..." You ask yourself as you stand in the middle of a large swamp. The low drone of the :Surskit:surskit nest to the south was able to be ignored at first, but now? The name bug has never made more sense. Shippdit is close nearby, hopping from fallen log to fallen log. She makes a large hop and then strikes a goofy pose! You can't help but to chuckle slightly, as a twinge of shame tugs at your heart strings.

But... oh no. Past her wiggling fingers, a few steps away from a large :Bibarel:bibarel dam, a figure. They seem to be sneaking—Poorly, you might add— towards the nest's positon. You watch from a distance as the net they're holding begins creeping up above their head. Suddenly, the figure's intent becomes clear: they're here to catch a pokemon. That net is FAR too large to catch anything of that size, you think. Maybe you should say somet-*THWACK!* The net in their hand strikes the dam, and chaos erupts.

"Aw heck!" shouts the bug catcher. You swear you hear silence in the swamp as all the bibarel turn their heads towards the noise. One brave pokemon squeaks first; a call to flee the scene of the "attack."

Shippdit stops her posing and points in the direction of the one- no, it's thre- twelv- twenty-three bidoof and bibarel all running in fear at you.

nightblitz42, What do you do?

Shippdit scrambles up a tree. Stooped on a sturdy branch, she extends an arm down to Endurtaka. "<Quickly, up here! I'll lift you!>"

Endurtaka hesitates to grab Shippdit's hand. To her, it looks like the sharp paw of a monster she'd imagine lurking under her bed as a child, not something to be trusted. "<Well, what are you waiting for?>" Shippdit asks. She squints at the horde of beavers meters away. "<There's no time to spare. Take my hand already!>"

Finally, Shippdit feels a weight in her claws. She pulls with all her strength and heaves onto the branch: Endurtaka's heavy coat. Confused, Shippdit looks down to see her unencumbered Trainer sprinting away from the Bibarel by foot, alone.

Endurtaka salutes back. "Thanks for holding my coat," she japes. "I'll be back for it later."

"<Hey! I'm your partner, not a clothes hanger! Besides, there's no way you can outrun all of them by yourself! Crazy!>"

Shippdit's protestations are drowned out by the sound of about two dozen wild Bibarel stampeding past.

As you start sprinting away from the stampede, a smirk grows across your face. This is your opportunity! You can finally be rid of this creature that's been encumbering you. you reach into your coat pocket for your ti-- oh.. oh no. you think. Your ticket is in your coat pocket. The very coat in the possession of the very Pokemon you're trying to abandon. The slight hesitation pulls your attention for you to narrowly dodge out of the way of a tree that just popped up in your path.

You briefly glance back at Shippdit, who looks increasingly worried. She's alone and you're not quite safe—Not that's any of her concern, but still. She's biting her nails anxiously, while holding the literal ticket to your salvation in her hands (+1 Stress Shippdit). Past her, that pesky bug catcher has begun to pursue the flow of bidoof that is heading in your direction. He still has that darned net in his grasp and is frantically swinging it as a desperate attempt to catch something.

Still, you have bigger concerns to handle. You're not sure how much longer you can outrun the stampede, especially as they near closer to the surskit nest. The bugs are definitely roused by all the ruckus, as that drone fills your ears again. Worse, you can sense another presence swelling from deeper within the nest.

nightblitz42, How do you respond?

Shippdit's keen ears pick up on the chittering of Surskit deeper in the forest. With a start, she realizes that Endurtaka might very well be fleeing towards greater danger than she's trying to avoid. She calls to Endurtaka, telling her to halt -- but amidst the chaos and noise, there's no chance of being heard.

Being quite the sociable fellow, Shippdit decides that her best course of action is to ask someone for help. So, she hangs Endurtaka's coat nicely onto a tree branch before hopping down to ground-level to approach the Bug Catcher. Surely the energetic young lad would have enough muscle to fling Shippdit at the swarm of Bibarel much faster than she could run on her own.

Ah! But, to ask a stranger for a favor out of the blue would be improper. There's a correct way to go about these sorts of things (yes, even in times of urgency; after all, what are manners for, if not the situations during which one would rather not use them?)

First, in greeting the Bug Catcher, Shippdit bends her knees into a curtsy. As she does so, her hands pinch up faint wisps of shadow, mimicking the fringes of a skirt. "How do you do? My name is Shippdit Berylbane. Might I have yours?" And a pause, to receive the boy's response.

"I see. A pretty name." Now Shippdit can ask for the lad's help, right? Course not! A conversation must not start with such an aggressive subject. She'd come across as pushy. No, she needs to build rapport with an opening topic more agreeable. So, she ignores the wailing screams of Endurtaka in the distance as she moves the conversation forward. "Good weather for bug-catching, isn't it?" And then she gives a few nods and "Hm!"s as she hears the boy's reply.

Finally, now that they're not strangers, Shippdit can (politely) ask for a favor. "As far as bug-catching is concerned, I do believe my Trainer would be willing and qualified to help you out (not to say that you require help, but if you'd like it it's available) once she's recovered from this momentary pickle she's found herself in. Speaking of, would you kindly put me into your bug-net and fling me towards those Bibarel? It would be most appreciated, and I'll happily put in a good word for you with the Mistress if you would oblige."
