ORAS OU Aerodactyl Offense Please Help!

Hello everyone,

This is my first post ever here. I've been playing pokemon for a while now and I want to climb the ladder so I thought I would come here to get some advice on my team first. Any advice on bad type coverage, lack of checks to major threats in the meta game, or different pokemon builds would be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much. Here's the team!

Breloom @ Focus Sash
Ability: Technician
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Bullet Seed
- Mach Punch
- Spore
- Rock Tomb

I chose Breloom as a reliable lead if they don't have grass pokemon so I can put someone to sleep. I also like to have a grass pokemon to counter water even though breloom is squishy. Priority fighting is nice as well for Ferrothorn, Lopunny, and Bisharp if you're lucky :)

Gengar @ Black Sludge
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Sludge Wave
- Shadow Ball
- Substitute
- Disable

Gengar is my favorite pokemon so I have to have him on my team. I like this set because I can outplay a lot of people with Disable which leads to me have a fresh sub and taking out a lot of their team or winning. This guy handles fairies along with Scizor.

Latias @ Life Orb
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 72 HP / 184 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Defog
- Draco Meteor
- Psyshock
- Healing Wish

Drop Dracos... need I say more? This offers threat to dragons and poison types such as Mega Venusaur. I also like healing wish to heal up one of my pokemon that threaten the opposition the most. Also handles entry hazards for my sashed Breloom if need be. This Pokemon seems to be working okay, but I question its position on the team.

Azumarill @ Choice Band
Ability: Huge Power
EVs: 172 HP / 252 Atk / 84 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Play Rough
- Waterfall
- Aqua Jet
- Superpower

Great fairy on the team. Switches into a lot of hits and always does great damage to whoever switches in. Sometimes I question the Choice Band, but I think its the right choice. I also like that I can take out Ferrothorn with Superpower because I always feel week to him.

Scizor @ Life Orb
Ability: Technician
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Swords Dance
- Bullet Punch
- Knock Off
- U-turn

Okay, so I just put this guy on the team. Before I had Bisharp and then I faced a guy with Mega-Metagross and was like.... I have nothing for this wtf. So I kept a steel type, but switched to something that wasn't weak to Hammer Arm. Tell me if you think this was a good desicion because I really like Bisharp too.

Aerodactyl @ Aerodactylite
Ability: Unnerve
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Fire Fang
- Stone Edge
- Aerial Ace
- Earthquake

Similar to Scizor, I had Mega-Pinsir on this team before this guy. Not sure what happened to change to Aerodactyl... May have been for something to deal with fire, or possibly something else to deal with the oh so annoying Talonflame as Aerodactyl does both of these quite well. He has been putting in some good work. His squishiness is annoying at times, but speed and power are fun so ya.

Thanks for reading.

Hey man, really cool team. Aerodactyl is great against offensive teams when their physical walls have been weakened. I see a few ways how to make it more effective though.

Bulky Garchomp brings a lot to the team. It keeps physical attackers like Bisharp, M-Lopunny, Talonflame, Scizor, Charizard-X, M-Metagross and Jirachi from spamming their moves. Mega Scizor is really problematic for your team, because it can mindlessly spam Bullet Punch and gets a +2 on Azu (when locked into Play Rough, Superpower or Aqua Jet), Latias and Gengar. Talonflame SDs on Scizor and after Stealth Rock damage (and a few percent more) Aerodactyl goes down to +2 Brave Bird. Thanks to Rocky Helmet+Rough Skin, it synergises well with Aerodactyl, weakening and bringing opposing Pokemon in range of its attacks. It also relieves the pressure Talonflame puts on Aerodactyl, because it is your only check to it without Garchomp.

Scizor is great against Metagross, but your set is not bulky enough to take its hits. You also need a more solid Latios (or Draco) and Fairy switchin on your team, because Azumarill gets 2hkod by Psyshock, so you can't switch it in safely. A bulky set with 248 HP / 164 Def / 96 SpD and Impish nature takes all of Latios attacks, except for HP Fire. Roost helps you keep it healthy and U-turn provides momentum which is key on an offense team like this. Clefable is also checked, but you have to watch out for fire coverage. HP Fire Latios Okhos Scizor and Clefable gets very close to it with Flamethrower. Pivoting into Azumarill to scout for the fire move can get you another kill if your opponent doesn't have a solid Azu switchin.
Having another priority user (with a boosting move) is great, because it improves the chances that Azumarill or Scizor will sweep weakened teams late game if Aerodactyl fails.
vs Metagross
252 Atk Tough Claws Mega Metagross Hammer Arm vs. 248 HP / 164+ Def Scizor: 122-144 (35.5 - 41.9%)

252 SpA Life Orb Latios Hidden Power Fire vs. 248 HP / 92 SpD Scizor: 369-437 (107.5 - 127.4%)
vs Clefable

Gengar+Aerodactyl is a fearsome combination, because it breaks almost everything that stands in Aerodactyl's way, like Hippowdon, Slowbro, Rotom, Quagsire and other physically defensive walls like Landorus and Garchomp. Change your set to Life Orb with Sludge Wave / Shadow Ball / Focus Blast / Taut. Playing this recklessly to break Aerodactyl's checks is key - it is one of the wallbreakers in your team. Taunt breaks Stall by keeping the opponent from healing and using status moves.

Aerodactyl has a large movepool. Fire Fang/Stone Edge/Aerial Ace hits a lot of Pokemon, but Earthquake only Ohkos Heatran and misses out on the oneshot on Bisharp and Diancie by a few percent. Aqua Tail is a solid option too, to kill Hippowdown at 44% and Landorus with 37% (after intimidate). Toxic also is an option, to have a higher chance to break through bulky Pokemon.

Healing Wish support is nice, but you switch into Keldeo or other water types a lot, because Keldeo scalds Garchomp or Scizor without fearig much. That is the reason why I recommend running Recover>Healing Wish. Without Healing Wish, Latios is the better option because of its damage output. To answer your question: Lati is a great on that team, because it checks water and electric types, aswell as providing Defog support for Aero.

I changed the speed EVs on Azu, with 168 you outspeed Skarmory and you can potentially flinch it.
