ORAS OU After Some Consideration...

Hello guys! (First: english is not my native language, sorry for any mistakes ToT)

It's been 2 weeks since i started my journey into competitve pokémon for real.... I've been reading guides and trying myself on the ladder to get experience. Also, i'm getting to know my own play style better and better and formed the follow team:

keldeo-ordinary.png

Musashi (Keldeo) @ Expert Belt
Ability: Justified
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Scald
- Secret Sword
- Hidden Power [Electric]
- Calm Mind

Keldeo is for sure my most reliable mon! It has great coverage with Water/Fighting STABS - Scald (the most OP move ¬¬) and Secret Sword, and also having a nice surprise to other Water/Flying types with HD Eletric. I tried using Left Overs and Expert Belt and the Extra Damage really caught me in ;) I miss the sustein of Left Overs sometimes, but we can't have everthing... Finally it not uncommon for me to have safe turn when it is possible to CM improving both offense and defense... I'm still not sure if CM is really the best move for the set, but so far I'm not disappointed.... He's role on the team is covering common enemy threats and light sweeping ;)

212-m.png

Reddington (Scizor) (M) @ Scizorite
Ability: Light Metal
EVs: 248 HP / 44 Atk / 16 Def / 200 SpD
Impish Nature
- Swords Dance
- Roost
- Bullet Punch
- Bug Bite

I choose to go with a Bulky style build on this one. Roost keeps Red alive long enough while my enemies suffer from my burns and also helps on keeping my SDs up for some sweeping power ;) Bullet Punch is just that Priority Stab + Technician that hits fast and for considerable damage! Bug Bute is a great overall good move against some annoyong opponents i often face (ghost/Psychic types mostly) and can hit decently as a neutral attack. I'd say his function on the team is being a Bulky SpD /late sweeper.

clefable.png

Mamori (Clefable) (F) @ Leftovers
Ability: Magic Guard
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 252 HP / 172 Def / 84 SpD
Calm Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Moonblast
- Thunder Wave
- Soft-Boiled

Clefable is just too good! It's easy to predict when they are using a mon with super effective moves against Clefa so unless you don't have a choice you can avoid being hard hit! For that reason, SR was inserted here so I can safely cast my Hazard. Moonblast is the STAB move of choice being strong and reliable. Thunder Wave is for creepling heavy attack hitters and slowing down the pace. Solf-Boild closes the set as a survival route.

gengar.png

Hiruma (Gengar) (M) @ Black Sludge
Ability: Levitate
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 8 HP / 248 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Hex
- Taunt
- Will-O-Wisp
- Sludge Wave

Gengar is clearly a SpA Sweeper for the team. I has some conditions to hit really hard (mostly having the enemies burning/paralized) with Hex in general or super effectives Sludge Waves ;) Even without the bonus damage from Hex special condition the move is strong by itself. WoW helps with residual damage and debuffing threaths and in sinergy with Hex. Finally Taunt is my wallbreaker move, catching a lot of foes nullifing at least partially a lot of annoying mons!

excadrill.png

Wrathion (Excadrill) (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Mold Breaker
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 SpD
Careful Nature
- Earthquake
- Iron Head
- Rapid Spin
- Toxic

I need some ground coverage and my hate for hazards was still a problem... also, it is common to face Mega Sableye on the ladder, so Moldbreaker is a must with Toxic along ;) Rapid spin is here to clear hazards and EQ is the STAB move. Iron Head is also a STAB for good damage and some help agaisnt Fairies, I'm not lucky and every 10 usages i can maybe see a Flinch, but it is something that can happen so worth of mentioning ;)

mew.png

Chaos (Mew) @ Leftovers
Ability: Synchronize
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 252 HP / 224 SpD / 32 Spe
Careful Nature
- Heal Bell
- Soft-Boiled
- Will-O-Wisp
- Psyshock

The rest of the team was good on my view, but i lacked an SpD mon and Status are always annoying, so Mew came as a good option for both roles with Heal Bell and Good Bulky Stats... WoW and SB are used to help the team with constant damage and crippling on burn and susteining through the fights. Psychock is the STAB of choice that can hit for high damage \o/ Mew is a filler mon and is the one most likely to change for something that can benefit the team better ;D

---
So far I'm happy with the team, going from 1000 to 1300 on the ladder with a good 75% win rate. I usually lose to Charizards and Flying mons after losing my Keldeo to soon, but besides that, nothing really destroyind my team (at least not so far xD). Anything you guys would advice for improving the team and making me able to climb the ladder for at least 1500~1600 score (this is my goal for now!)

Thanks in advance!

Hey, nice team! I noticed you have nothing for Mega Charizard X, Mega Charizard Y, and Talonflame. While nothing checks all 3 of them perfectly, Heatran is able to do a fairly good job, especially if Zard X doesn't have Earthquake. Heatran is able to take any hit from Talonflame, and then KO with Stone Edge. It can also KO Mega Charizard Y with Stone Edge, but Focus Blast can KO you before you KO them. Heatran can also defeat Mega Charizard X with Earth Power or Stone Edge, but that's if Zard X doesn't have EQ. The other option that could work against those 3 is Hippowdon. Hippowdon is able to check Mega Charizard X with more ease than Heatran, deal with Talonflame fairly well, and then it's able to deal with Charizard Y not that well, as Sand Stream does change the Drought into a Sandstorm so it prevents Solarbeam from being used in 1 turn, but Fire Blast still has a good chance to 2HKO if the Charizard Y is Modest (which should be the case most of the time). Heatran also helps defeat Mega Venusaur, which looks a bit difficult to KO as Gengar looks to be the only one who can KO it at the moment. The Magma Storm + Taunt set is the best one to KO it, since it'll trap Mega Venusaur, and then Taunt prevents it from healing with Synthesis, so you'll be able to have an easier time KO'ing it. The same strategy can also be applied to Talonflame. If you decide to run Hippowdon, you can also change Excadrill's set to an offensive Sand Sweeper, and that'll also be able to defeat Mega Venusaur, so you'll be able to combat it with either one. A faster Excadrill can also take on Mega Charizard X, Mega Charizard Y and Talonflame, as it'll be able to outspeed them in sand and have an easy time 1HKO'ing them.

Running either Heatran or Hippowdon means you can remove Stealth Rock from Clefable and run it on one of them. As for the open slot, you can run Calm Mind so that you'll have a special setup sweeper. This is helpful because Mega Scizor can easily get crippled by a burn, so you'll have another option that can set up in sweep in case Scizor can't. If you set up 2 Calm Minds, then Mega Charizard Y has to 3HKO you with Fire Blast at best, so you'll be able to stop it with Clefable if you can manage to get some Calm Minds up.

heatran.gif

Heatran @ Leftovers
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 252 HP / 8 SpD / 252 Spe (This is known as a fast bulky Heatran, so it'll be able to outspeed threats and still have a good amount of bulk to take hits)
Timid Nature
- Magma Storm
- Stone Edge
- Taunt
- Stealth Rock

hippowdon.gif

Hippowdon @ Leftovers
Ability: Sand Stream
EVs: 252 HP / 144 Def / 112 SpD
Impish Nature
- Earthquake
- Stealth Rock
- Slack Off
- Stone Edge

Excadrill @ Life Orb
Ability: Sand Rush
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Earthquake
- Iron Head
- Rock Slide
- Rapid Spin
That's it for now, let me know if my suggestions helped or not, and in case of the latter, I'll come up with something else. Hope I helped ^_^

Hi Rigwarl i see your new to competitive pokemon and your team needs help so im going to rate it. First off your team is pretty good for a person only 2 weeks into competitive pokemon but it needs a lot of improving. Your team seems to be aiming towards wearing down the opponent while still having offensive presence. your team can get worn down very easily against common threats such as Keldeo, Heatran, Talonflame, Ferrothorn. Water-Fire-Grass Cores give your team lots of problems as you have very hard time switching and dealing with them. your team needs better sets and some slot changes but its up to you

Knock off over Bug Bite on M-Scizor. Knocking off Items can be very helpful to this team. getting rid of Heatran, Talonflame , Raikou, Thundurus, Keldeo's Item / form of recovery etc can be very useful for a potential sweep later.

Scizor-Mega @ Scizorite
Ability: Technician
EVs: 252 HP / 80 Atk / 176 SpD
Impish Nature
- Swords Dance
- Knock Off
- Roost
- Bullet Punch

Put Calm mind over Stealth rocks on Clefable.
Clefable @ Leftovers
Ability: Magic Guard
EVs: 252 HP / 172 Def / 84 SpD
Calm Nature
- Calm Mind
- Thunder Wave
- Moonblast
- Soft-Boiled

Calm mind Keldeo also seems out of place on this team so i recommend Specs Keldeo because your team lacks any hard hitting move to put pressure on.
Keldeo-Resolute @ Choice Specs
Ability: Justified
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Scald
- Hydro Pump
- Secret Sword
- Hidden Power [Electric] / Icy Wind

Heatran over Mew. The only thing that can take fire moves on your team is Keldeo which gets worn down very quicky and Heatran can absorb those fire moves while also having a good check for Talonflame.

Heatran @ Leftovers
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Lava Plume / Magma Storm
- Taunt
- Earth Power
- Toxic

Defensive Landorus Over Excadrill. Sp.def Excadrill can be replaced by Landorus because you lack ground resists and because variants of Talonflame and Charizard X can give you trouble so adding Landorus will be useful for you.
Landorus-Therian @ Leftovers
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 Def
Impish Nature
- Earthquake
- Stealth Rock
- U-turn
- Stone Edge

Last thing i really recommend is Latios or Celebi over Gengar because you water resist is only your keldeo which is really pressured and also having a Defogger / Keldeo Switch is beneficial for a lot of teams especially this one.
Latios (M) @ Life Orb
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Draco Meteor
- Roost
- Defog
- Psyshock

or

Celebi @ Leftovers
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 252 HP / 152 Def / 104 Spe
Timid Nature
- Nasty Plot
- Giga Drain
- Earth Power
- Recover

this gives you a good water resist with recovery and Wall breaking. 104 speed to outspeed Timid Heatran , Adamant Rock Polish Landorus, and Jolly DD Gyarados. Good Switch in to Keldeo, Breloom, Ferrothorn, Rotom, Non Fire blast Slowbro, Serperior, and so on.

Here is the new Improved team.

Team Pokepals :

Thank you for the detailed explanation, i'll try first your set to see how i can adapt to it. Because I'm noob i feel afraid of the sandstorm damaging my own other pokemon, that's why I skipped it. So i'll try replacing Mew with Hippo and go for a more offensive Excadrill ;) I'll chance Chefable to and test it out ;)

MegaStarUniverse :

I'll try your suggestion next, but there are some points that hurts me T_T

1º I really like Gengar! I wanted to keep it in the team ;)

2º Choice Specs locks my mon for using only one attack at a time right? Don't ou feel limited by that? LIKE A LOT?

3º Scald isn't enough of a STAB on Keldeo? Do I really need Hydro Pump (That has less acc too)?

4º I also like Excadrill.... Gengar and Excadrill are not great together? Or they are just not as strong as Landorous-T + Celebi?

Another question for both: Heal Bell was helping so much, don't you just miss not having it on the team at all?

Rigwell Choice Specs boosts Keldeo's power a lot but if you don't like it Life Orb is fine too. Hydro Pump is mandatory because you need a more powerful STAB.

Heal Bell isn't needed if you play carefully. You can use Clefable as a status absorber. You will get used to it after a while don't worry too much.

I'm not having much time to play T-T, but could test a little with the changes suggested and so far I dislike the Choice Specs on Keldeo! I'm doing good with Leftovers and having more flexibility with my moves options. CM Clefable is really great and can cause a lot of damage! A happy change ;) Heatran is good.... even if I don't like the him... can't deny he is good T-T But I miss my Gengar D; I'll try this set a bit more and then will say my final feedback ;)
