Hello all, this is both my first RMT and my first post on Smogon. It all started when one fine day, after facing the six thousandth rain team on PO’s official server (where, as you know, Drizzle + SS is not banned) I finally got fed up. Sun Teams, Sand Teams, even a Mono-Fight Team that I had fun with until I fought rain teams were ineffective and had become completely not fun to play. So I thought to myself, “To hell with this.” I abandoned my previous oath, which was to never ever use Drizzle Politoed and instead racked up a team with every single broken rain abuser in the meta-game. My main muscles were Choice Specs Kingdra, Choice Band Kabutops and NP Lum Berry Thundurus that together with a Dry Skin Toxicroak and the ubiquitous Ferrothorn smashed teams apart. A special attack that can 2HKO Blissey is, after all, nothing to trifle with.
While it got me to the top 100 in OU, I eventually got bored with it. What finally drove me from OU, however, was the banning of Thundurus to Ubers on PO. This didn’t trouble me much personally – Swapping the crackling genie with his Flying-type brethren would be a simple matter – but in spite of myself I had grow fond of Thundurus and decided to follow him to his home tier. Never having played Ubers seriously I wondered if a well built Drizzle team in Ubers could be as formidable as it is in OU. (You are now saying “No shit.”) Having dabbled in this tier before (SIX DRAGONS SMASH), I designed this team to do the following: Abuse rain using Kyogre’s Drizzle, utilize Dialga’s excellent typing and bulk for entry hazard and defensive support and to prepare the team for Extreme Killer Arceus as much as possible. The results are below.
This team has served me very well on my now favorite tier to play, garnering me a respectable 1488 points and a 37 ranking on the ladder at its peak. Which was yesterday, until I was haxed down to 43 this morning. Still, in my own mind, I consider it not bad for a first attempt.
Changes, suggestions and assessment of holes are welcomed (it is an RMT after all).

Dialga @ Leftovers
Trait: Pressure
EVs: 252 HP/56 SpA/ 200 SpD
Nature: Modest
Moveset:-
- Stealth Rock
- Draco Meteor
- Thunder
- Roar
Here comes the ancient guardian of time, to tell you that yours has come. (See what I did there?) Dialga’s fantastic typing, which nullifies the Dragon’s weakness to Ice and to itself as well as gives it a great amount of resistances, combines with his fabulous bulk to become a crucial defensive and supportive pivot on the team. The set is the standard Defensive set from Smogon with the recommended EV spread, save for a slight twist. I picked the Modest nature over Quiet for giving Draco Meteor that extra oomph that lets it deal more damage to the likes of Groudon, Mewtwo and Palkia. Thunder was slashed over Fire Blast since this is after all a rain team and since Dialga is my main Kyogre check it’s nice to have something to hit it back with. Stealth Rock is a niche, gimmicky move that many of you may not have heard of but it’s actually really neat. Try it out sometime. Roar is very useful, especially for Dialga weak teams since it racks up entry hazard damage as well as stopping boosters and sub users (Damn Lustrous Orb Palkia) in their tracks. It has terrific scouting potential. If Draco Meteor’s already been used, Roar is also useful for phasing Arceus out on the predicted SD. Dialga completely walls Extreme Killers lacking Earthquake (i.e. most of them) and is thus also the first manifestation of my paranoia about that guy.
He only really struggles with Mewtwo, opposing Scarf Dialga and Groudon, as well as the odd Earthquake user. However this current set is more or less indispensable especially since it’s the best answer to Kyogre, who is after all the number one used Uber. The Scarf Set is handled by Dailga himself while the damage output from the Specs set alerts me that Thunderbro and Mewtwo (oops spoiler) outspeed and can handle the whale. Taking hits and dishing them out in equal measure, Dialga is a real team player.

Kyogre @ Choice Specs
Trait: Drizzle
EVs: 252 SpA/ 4 SpD / 252 Sp
Nature: Modest
Moveset:-
- Water Spout
- Surf
- Thunder
- Ice Beam
Say hello to my little friend. He’s the biggest cannon in the game and no, he’s not made of glass. I simply love the raw power this guy has. He wrecks Blissey with Water Spout. He does 67% to Ferro with Water Spout and 37% with Ice Beam. He OHKOs Groudon in the sun, all the while screaming “WHERE IS YOUR GOD NOW?”
The set and EVs are straightforward enough: Max offense, max speed and Modest to drown all foes till they gasp for respite. I opt for Modest over Timid because Kyogre isn’t supposed to be winning speed ties, he’s supposed to make the opposition weep. ScarfOgre outspeeds anyway. The moveset is also fairly simple. Water Spout at high health, Surf at low, Thunder for opposing bulky Kyogre and Palkia switchins and Ice Beam for the coverage. It’s hard to imagine it getting better, but Kyogre is of course the crux of the weather team, summoning the sweet, sweet rain that give the team its beloved 100% accurate Thunders and Fire resistance. Not to mention that Kyogre can serve as an Arceus check in a pinch, if it’s early game and it hasn’t managed to get an SD boost. Really, with its raw offensive powers and impressive bulk even when uninvested, one wonders why Kyogre hasn’t been suspected in Ubers yet.
Oh, right.

Giratina-O @ Griseous Orb
Trait: Levitate
EVs: 248 Atk/ 252 SpA / 8 Sp
Nature: Naughty
Moveset:-
- Draco Meteor
- Will-O-Wisp
- Shadow Sneak
- Dragon Tail
Giratina-O: A Dragon so annoying even death couldn’t hold it back. The set itself is the cookie cutter Mixed Attacker set from Smogon, pouring EVs into both attacking stats and a little into Speed to outpace walls. But it’s so, so much more. You may have noticed that Hidden Power Fire has been replaced by Will-O-Wisp, the reason being that Giratina-O has beast synergy with Dialga, who is grateful for a Pokemon that can both switch into and cripple Groudon. (Kyogre just calls Dialga a pussy.) But wait, what’s this? Giratina-O is a Ghost type, immune to Normal attacks, with a move to cripple Physical attacks? Does that mean it’s … MY SECOND CHECK TO ARCEUS BECAUSE I’M SO PARANOID ABOUT HIM SWEEPING ME? (Yes. Fuck that guy.) Gira-O can survive even a boosted Shadow Claw and cripple the beast with its burning Sting. Further attempts to boost are met with a “lol no” and a Dragon Tail. Draco Meteor is for Groudon, Choice-locked Kyogre and miscellaneous switchins after something has been burned. Shadow Sneak is great for the two common Deo Formes, limiting them to a single layer of hazards or only 1 HP before KO’ing Gira, letting my main sweeper handle it with Extremespeed (spoilers). This set is thus simply brilliant, punching holes in the opposition for a sweep, softening up walls, stopping boosters and Baton Passers and even racking up SR damage and spinblocking. This is one Ghost of which you should be very, very afraid.
“After the Thunder’s spoken.”
Thundurus @ Life Orb
Trait: Prankster
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Sp
Nature: Timid
Moveset:-
- Thunder
- Hidden Power [Ice]
- Thunder Wave
- Taunt
Thunderbro is in the house y’all. Having recently been promoted to Ubers by PO, the T-man proves that he’s still boss in his new tier. Two things attracted me to this set: Priority Thunder Wave and Taunt. Scarfers are more powerful in Ubers than in the lower tiers, with Pokemon often having simply monstrous offensive prowess but mediocre speed. Thunderswag is my check to these Scarfers, since a Pokemon like Zekrom could easily sweep my team if Dialga isn’t around. He usually dies in the process but turning a Scarfer into setup fodder is often worth it.
Let’s not discount him as a “T-Wave and die lol” ‘mon, though. Thundurus roasts many Ubers and walls alive with his STAB Thunder and has taunt for the ever annoying Ferro, Blissey and even Darkrai/Calm Minders. The former are turned from annoying spreaders of hazards and status to wastes of turns and setup bait while the latter are robbed of their chance at a sweep. (It makes RestTalkers cry). Add to that the power to deal with all forms of non-scarf Kyogre (and the ability to cripple the scarfer), deal a good amount to Groudon with HP Ice and almost effortlessly dispatch Lugia in the rain and you have an amazing utility Pokemon in Ubers. Weakness to SR be damned. Thunderpro: He trolls, he punches holes, he’ll eat your goddamned souls.
“After the Dream is Broken.”
Mewtwo @ Life Orb
Trait: Pressure
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Sp
Nature: Timid
Moveset:-
- Psycho Break
- Ice Beam
- Thunder
- Aura Sphere
If ever there was a Pokemon designed to break the game, this is it. Four Generations later and Mewtwo is still as Uber as ever, if not more so. Gaining the ability to be a mixed wallbreaker with only a huge Special Attack, the immediate, raw power and sheer offensive presence of Life Orb Mewtwo is nonpareil. Psychic maybe a crappy STAB, but Psycho Break (“Don’t you mean Psystrike?” No. No, I fucking don’t) is an amazing move. Wall this, Blissey and Ho-Oh. Calm Mind away to weaken my Ice Beams, opposing Modest Mewtwo, go right ahead – PSYCHO BREAK TO THE DEFENSE FOR 48% DAMAGE! Surprise, motherfucker! (Yes, this happened. Yes, that won me the match.) Immune to Psychic, Darkrai? Well, I’m immune to Dark because I AURA SPHERE YOU INTO OBLIVION BEFORE YOU CAN TOUCH ME. Eat that.
Fangasming aside, if Giratina-O is a supporter-wallbreaker, Mewtwo is a wallbreaker-sweeper right from the get-go, like Starmie in previous gens. My team lol’s at Darkrai because Mewtwo exists (save for the cheap Focus Sash variants. They take me Mewtwo down with them.) With BoltBeam coverage and Aura Sphere for Ferro, Dialga, and Arceus (God I hate that thing) nothing is safe, especially if Thunderslo(ws you) has paralyzed the Scarfer. Renegade for life.
“Take me to the Danger.”
Arceus-Steel @ Iron Plate
Trait: Multitype
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Sp
Nature: Adamant
Moveset:-
- Swords Dance
- Iron Head
- ExtremeSpeed
- Earthquake
“Oh, that’s rich Suza. You rant and rave about Arceus over 5/6ths of your RMT, then use him yourself? I was expecting Rayquaza!” Well, hypothetical outraged reader, yes, that is right. I’m a fan of countering broken stuff with broken stuff. I mean, c’mon. MEWTWO.
But this is no ordinary Arceus. It is the vastly underrated, criminally underused Offensive Steel Arceus. The nonbelievers have already called me a n00b by now, I’m sure, saying I only got my rating by beating other n00bs that outn00b me. Well, that makes me cry.
There’s a reason for using this Arceus, though. You know that Steel has a lot of resistances and is the only resistance to the omnipresent Dragon type, right? Right. You know that there is a prevalence of Ubers using Choice items, especially Choice Scarf, since many have subpar speed, right? Right. You know where this is going, right? I hope so.
Aside from walling the Extreme Killer Arceus that lack Earthquake (and often even beating the ones that do) you would not believe the number of setup opportunities this guy gets. It’s not a rare occurrence at all to get to +4 (thought it does require a little luck on the damage rolls and some serious Cajones) and smash through the opposition like it isn’t even there. Ground and Normal have surprisingly good coverage in the Uber Tier, Earthquake hitting most slow Steels for at least neutral damage and letting me OHKO Dialga and Jirachi after a boost. Iron Head is surprisingly good STAB for flying and floating foes that also provides a handy flinch rate of 30% (as much as Scald’s burn. Think about that.) Skarmory of course walls me to high hell, but you’d be surprised how little of an issue that is on a Team with so much Thunder. The immunity to Toxic, T-Spikes and SR resistance is icing on the cake that Normal Arceus doesn’t get. Foretress is pure setup bait, since it’s not Ferrothorn and can’t Leech Seed or T-Wave you. Let him set up six layers of hazards, the poor guy. You’re going to boost up to +6 and sweep him soon enough. Let his life have some pretense of meaning.
I effectively consider this my secret weapon. The surprise factor itself nets me easy wins (to say nothing of beast synergy with Gira-O, nerfing Fire weakness from Ogre and generally boss teamwork.) People see Iron Head and E-Speed and send out Dialga and Jirachi for free kills. This guy can be used early too, to simply pound away and let Mewtwo and Thunder’fro clean up. I didn’t invent this set, but I did just think “Let me take ExtremeKiller Arceus and just switch his typing. See what happens.” 1488 points happened. I was happy.
WARNING: Arceus-Steel is NOT Extreme Killer Arceus. Factoring in STAB and Life Orb, Arceus-Normal’s ExtremeSpeed is about twice as powerful as its metallic counterpart’s. You shouldn’t expect to grab a quick boost and hammer away with a +2 priority move as you will be disappointed. Arceus-Steel is used differently: His easy access to the battlefield, fabulous bulk, multiple resistances and proliferation of Choiced moves are supposed to be capitalized upon to gain either multiple boosts or to wear down the opposition and eventually find an opportunity to sweep. Arceus-Steel loves outrages even more than Ferro, since he can actually use them to sweep. Play to these strengths and aim to remedy the few weaknesses and you will be rewarded. The ability to beat an Extremekiller one-on-one is merely one such strength.
Even when not boosted, priority is always useful (Deoxys-A and sashed Darkrai are annoying.) Arceus-Steel is the true star of the team, rushing into danger with impunity and resisting attacks to the very end (I’ve had sweeps that end with Arceus having < 20 HP left). Fear the Steel.
Rates, comments, suggestions and flames are welcomed. Yes, even Flames. Drizzle makes them x ½ as effective.
