XY NU Against the Norm

Hello all it is I servine bringing you my first RMT. So i am the type of player who hates the standard meta and i like to make teams to counter it so this is what i came up with.

Granbull

granbull.jpg

Nature:Adamant
Evs:252 Hp, 24Att , 56 Def, 176 Spdef
Item:Assault Vest
Ability-Intimidate
Moves-
Play Rough
Close Combat
Earthquake
Crunch

This Thing is here to deal with fighting spam and is one of the best shiftry checks. The moves are there for coverage: playrough nabs spiritomb for nice damage, earthquake destroys magneton on the switch in, and cc and crunch have great coverage within themselves. The ev spread Gives overall bulk of 384/300/300 which is incredibly nice for my team plus it helps my ocd.

Regirock

Nature:adamant
Evs:252Hp, 252 Att
Item:Assault vest
Ability:Clearbody
Moves-
StoneEdge
Earthquake
IcePunch
DrainPunch

Yea Yea Yea Ik this thing is standard as all heck but hey it is amazing. Regirock is probably the best assault vest user in the tier, superb bulk mixed with decent offenses makes this thing a formidable threat.
He stops the Fire spam as well as chatot, vivivvivivivlon, and normal/flying spam. He can also deal with the oh so powerful zangoose.

Steelix
Steelix.gif

Nature: Careful
Evs:252Hp,252Spedef
item:Leftovers
Ability:Sturdy
Moves-
Stealthrock
HeavySlam
Earthquake
Roar

Steelix is just an awesome pokemon in this meta. He is basacally my switch in to all electric types as he hard walls pretty much all of them barring lanturn. He also is a backup for dealing with normal spam as well as archeops. He also stops granbull and beats togetic 1v1. Steelix can easilly setup rocks as well as stop shiftry thanks to heavy slam being a solid 2Hko.

Mespirit
mespirit.gif

Nature:Timid
Evs:252Spe,252 Sptak
Item:Choice Specs
Ability:Levitate
Moves-
Psyshock
Energyball
Dazzlying gleam
Trick

My ususal lead and heavy hitter. mesprit dents several special walls with psyshock and energyball stops lead seismitoad and dazzlying gleam kill spititomb on the switch. Trick is used if i want to make a threat easier to deal with as well as being useful for the likes of eviolite users especially dusclops. Mespirits bulk and power makes it a versatile threat.

Serperior
serperior-used-glare-o.gif

Nature:timid
Evs:252 spatack,252 Spe
Item:Lifeorb
Ability:overgrow
Moves-
Substitute
Calmind
Gigadrain
Hidden power rock

Returning to nu as a powerful threat is the sub calmind serperior. It sets up all over lanturn and scares out sever other pokes as well as sets up on weak special attackers. Its blistering speed makes it thunderwave bait and lets me get up a free sub and proceed to setup. Overgrow is great for letting me fire off extra strong gigadrains at low HP.

Mantine
mantine.gif

Nature:Bold
Evs:252 Hp, 252 def
item: leftovers
Ability: water absorb
Moves-
scald
airslash
toxic
defog

Ahhhh finally the last poke Mantine is basically only a defogger for my team. He takes on several watertypes as well as checks vileplume. Mantine is also a golurk check as well as a ferilagator check.
Thats all this is just a check to stuff and it fits my team rather snuggly. toxic helps with lanturn and other walls who try to switch in.

Threats-
Spiritomb: Can be an issue if it burns granbull
Vileplume: bulky and just annoying to kill mantine helps with this thing
Dragalge: Super hard to kill but steelix hits hard if i dont get bored.
There are probably more but i cant think of any at the moment

Hey there this is a pretty alright team! I think the biggest problem for this team, is how offensive it is, and yet there are legitimately dedicated walls which tend to lose a lot of pressure for it. As a result, you cannot find a spot for your revenge killer, which means that oftentimes both quick sweepers such as Nasty Plot Mismagius, and bulky sweepers such as CroTomb all can have their way with this team. This said, you've done a very nice job building a rather solid team, but there are changes to be made in order to maximize efficiency. On top of this, a strong physical sweeper would help to punch holes early game, as it would allow SubCM Serp, the centerpiece of your team [Also my 2nd fav gen5 set ;)] to have an easier time sweeping.

As I said you have issues with setup sweepers, both fast and bulky. For this reason I reccomend the use of Scarf Haunter over Steelix. Steelix doesn't help offensive teams much since it doesn't pack as much pressure and often is setup fodder, so its more a weight for your team to carry than anything. Scarf Haunter helps you revenge faster pokemon with an amazing 95 base Speed allowing it to use its STAB attacks to guarantee a revenge kill, while it also disrubts bulky setup sweepers like Bulk Up Gurdurr or Calm Mind Spiritomb with a trick so that they can no longer function as a sweeper and are much more easilyd dealt with. A combination of Strong STABs and Destiny Bond also messes with offensive teams, meaning you guarantee at least 1 kill every match, thus helping you match the pace of the rest of your team.

The following thing that I would do is to replace Mantine with Swords Dance Feraligatr. While they play different roles, Feraligatr much better supports the structure of your team, punching massive holes into both defensive and offensive teams alike with powerful STAB and Priority, allowing Serp and Choiced Users to have an easier time sweeping. It also sets itself apart as a powerful offensive threat that still has significant bulk, so it is still perfectly capable to switch into moves if need be and tank a hit if you need it to!

Minor Changes:
Regirock: Since I removed Steelix [which frankly is actually bad], I reccomend changing to Standard Regirock. I know newcomers like AV Rock, but it doesn't achieve the best niche Regi has, which is offensive support. Due to this I reccomend the following moveset, with Rock Slide / Drain Punch / Stealth Rock / Thunder Wave with 240 HP / 252 Atk / 16 Spd. It just offers more utility for team structures like your own, spreading paralysis and wearing down opponents reliably.
Mesprit: Psychic > Psyshock, since without Psychic you don't guarantee a OHKO on Vileplume, a key threat to your team

How about i change mespirit to choicescarf because it can still do the same jub as haunter and this team switches alot so id still like a defogger/spinner on this team. Steelix protetect this team form volt-turn whish harms the purpose of it. mantine can be swapped because it harms the pressure for this team but i still want a deffoger/ spinne

with slurpuff in the tier, i would actually try keeping steelix, which isn't really even setup bait anyway, and not regirock. that'll help you stop belly drum variants as i can see it getting an opportunity against this team. i also dislike the idea of choice scarf mesprit because it sits at a middling speed and can't stop +2 shell smashers which your team may seem to be able to handle well theoretically, but the fact is that this is a rather slow and bulky team where most members lack recovery and are prone to being worn down

also what is assault vest on granbull helping you with in particular? play rough and earthquake is nearly perfect coverage, and you're giving up useful support options like heal bell and thunder wave, so i would go with that instead

i actually think feraligatr and haunter are fine, although you should try to explore different choice scarf users over haunter like rotom and see which one fits best. it's important to use something that's faster than +2 timid omastar because it's fairly threatening to your team. and finally instead of mesprit, you can use dragalge which absorbs toxic spikes to prevent issues against serperior and provides you with another way to handle fire-types and vileplume which your team can have trouble against
