Alice in Chains - Sap

Alice in Chains - Sap (1992)

Genre - Grunge

Fans who fell in love for Facelift in 1990 were waiting patiently for another release by Alice in Chains. Originally the band was going into the studio to work on material for their next studio album but instead ended up making four songs for an EP called Sap. Sean Kinney had dreamed about making an EP called Sap so the band decided not to mess with destiny. Sap features a number of guests such as Anne Wilson, Chris Cornell, Mark Arm, and Alice Mudgarden.

Brother - Brother has a beautiful acoustic intro. This song features the great harmonizing that Layne Staley and Jerry Cantrell would become known for, as well as some harmonizing by Anne Wilson of Heart. The solo on this song is great not amazing but not bad. The lyrics to this track are a plus to they deal with a lost brother. In this case it was Jerry's brother. Really great song to show that Alice in Chains can change up their variety. 10/10

Got Me Wrong -
A more fast paced song than what came previous. Got Me Wrong starts with some chord progression and what appears to be a solo guitar, then is goes into the verse. The verse is sung by Layne where he shows off his vocal abilities. Featured here is also some nice bass playing thanks to Mike Starr. Got Me Wrong is with of Alice in Chains best songs. 10/10

Right Turn -
This is the most beautiful song on the album. Right Turn features Mark Arm, Chris Cornell, and the signature Layne Staley and Jerry Cantrell harmonizing. Credited as Alice Mudgarden (Alice in Chains, Mudhoney, and Soundgarden) you know this track has excellent vocals. There is an acoustic guitar and tambourine percussion here. This song finishes with Chris Cornell on the finale. Honestly what more can you ask of? 9/10

Am I Inside -
Probably the band's most underrated song. Anne Wilson is back on the vocals during the chorus here. The instruments here sound rather sad and depressing there is a piano and a sad sounding guitar. Layne and Jerry are once again doing the great harmonizing. Great song for sure. 9.5/10

Love Song -
This is unlisted on the Sap EP CD. Not really a song it is more of the band just messing around and having fun. No reason to rate this.

Overall - Sap is a bridge between the band's 1990 Facelift and the not yet released 1992 Dirt. There are only four actual songs on this EP but those four songs are very good and worth checking out.

I would recommend slowing down your reviews and writing something more substantial in them. Quality over Quantity.
