Rejected Allowing users of rank Voice and up to use /requestshow

Currently users that have ranks of voice or higher on the server cannot use "/requestshow", and are forced to use "!show" for images/content they want to share. Although it's not that big of an thing, sometimes it's preferable to use /requestshow (ex: the reason for this post, being able to have potential game leak images vetted by upper staff to prevent the spread of confirmed fakes).

Being forced to use !show also unnecessarily removes options for these users to share content, which I feel isn't the best.

Is this an issue specific to a room or the default behavior? A weekish ago there was a permissions problem with this in the portugues room but we got it fixed so voices could request show again.

By default, we assume that if you have !show permissions, then you are trusted to be able to make that judgment call yourself. If certain ranks cannot be trusted to make that judgment call for themselves, the permissions for show can be modified (e.g. to mods or room owners only).

Hi, this thread wasn't locked and since it was brought up 2 years ago, I'm replying to this instead of making a new request, as I'd like to make a case for Voices and above being able to use /requestshow.

As it stands, on a room level I don't think this is inherently something that needs to be changed. Room Staff should have a good level of judgement of which users they want to be able to use !show. This becomes a grey area with Global Voices, however.

As a Global Voice myself, I've been involved in numerous rooms and I normally opt out of using !show in some instances because, as a Global Voice, I am not involved in the culture of said room, and I don't know what their staff want. Some of the rooms I've been in would prefer that I ask a staff member before using !show - not because of any concerns about what I may post, but because of a consistency regarding who can show what in their room. In fact I had a conversation with a Room Staff member of Wi-Fi, which I am not roomauthed in, and they said they would prefer I ask before showing anything - which in my eyes is completely understandable.

On a general scale, I kind of do think it's courteous for Global Voices to ask before showing things if they aren't involved in a room, but that might moreso be personal preference. That brings us to now, is that if I'm going to ask for media to be shown, why not be able to use /requestshow, since that's kind of the purpose it serves?

Edit: To be clear, the idea does not reflect the opinions of the Wi-Fi room. I only mentioned this as an example, but /requestshow would actually be useful in this instance.

By design, this is not opinionated. Roomstaff can toggle permissions on this as they like easily - talk to whatever room if you want to ask this.
