Pokémon Alomomola

:sv/alomomola:
Base Stats: 165 / 75 / 80 / 40 / 45/ 65
Abilities: Healer / Hydration / Regenerator
Notable Moves (Worth Considering):
Aqua Jet
Chilling Water*
Healing Wish
Ice Beam
Liquidation
Mirror Coat
Play Rough
Protect
Surf
Whirlpool
Wish

*Chilling Water: 50 BP Water Move, 32PP, 100% chance to lower the target's attack by one stage

Changes Into Scarlet and Violet:
Alomomola lost a lot of valuable moves from transitioning into Scarlet and Violet. It used to always run two of Scald/Knock Off/Toxic; however, it lost all three of those moves. This is certainly discouraging as Knock Off provided great utility, Toxic prevented Alomomola from becoming set-up bait, and Scald was Scald. There was one major change that, in my opinion, outweighs these losses: the reduction of recovery move Power Points from 16PP to 8PP while Wish is unaffected. The niche of a Wish passer will likely become more desirable for more defensive teams where PP is more likely to be depleted. In Sword and Shield, Alomomola was not available in OU. In National Dex where it vied for a spot with Clefable and Blissey for the role of Wish-passer and were generally a better choice. Fortunately for our fish, Blissey lost access to Wish and Clefable will not be obtainable in Scarlet and Violet meaning its primary competition is no more. It still competes with Sylveon for a spot as it far less passive, bypassing Substitute/Shed Tail with Hyper Voice, superior Special Defense, and Fairy typing. Do not count out the mighty Wish fish!

Terastral Potential:
Please do not terastralize Alomomola. It is not worth using your one terastralization to help pass Wishes. Tera-Water could help power up an Aqua Jet in a pinch, but you should have played much better is that ever happens. Ground is the other possible Tera-type to gain an Electric immunity. Just don't, especially since the teams Alomomola will find itself on will have a better Tera-user such as Avalugg or even Iron Hands.

Pros:
-Decent defensive typing in pure Water
-Great physical bulk with 165/80
-Biggest available Wishes of 240 HP (assuming :leftovers: set)
-Access to Regenerator, the most broken ability allowed in OU
-Switches into scary Waters, bar :Iron Bundle: which will likely get banned soon

Cons:
-Most teams don't require its niche
-Extremely passive, bait for :cyclizar:
-Low utility aside from Wish
-Competes with other Regenerator Water-types such as :Toxapex: and :slowking:/:Slowbro:, who are generally better choices
-Predictable aside from Aqua Jet (it's actually good) and Mirror Coat shenanigans, I was really stretching for moves "worth considering"
-Mid Special bulk

Potential Sets:
To be honest, Alomomola does not have a lot of options when it comes to movesets but I've found two that I like:

Physical Fish (Alomomola) @ Leftovers
Ability: Regenerator
Tera Type: Water
EVs: 40 HP / 216 Def / 252 SpD
Impish Nature
- Wish
- Protect
- Liquidation
- Aqua Jet/Healing Wish/Play Rough (For the adventurous only)

Alomomola has a much higher Attack compared to its Special Attack 75 to 40, so a physical set is less passive. Aqua Jet is nice for picking off weakened Pokemon such as offensive Volcarona, Iron Moth, and others. Liquidation is its strongest physical STAB move. Healing Wish is a possibility for certain teams. Play Rough hits Dragon-types. Personally, I only like Aqua Jet in the last slot. HP EVs are to reach a Leftovers number + 1. This set is more susceptible to Burns.

Special Fish (Alomomola) @ Leftovers
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 40 HP / 216 Def / 252 SpD
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Wish
- Protect
- Ice Beam
- Chilling Water/Surf/Whirlpool

Despite having a Special Attack lower than Stunky, a Special set is more than viable. Ice Beam is enough to break through a Dragon-types Substitute. Chilling Water prevents it from becoming Dragon Dance bait. Surf is just stronger, but is not recommended.
[Whirlpool] allows it to beat non-bulk up great tusks and provides good chip damage to most mons esp with protect.

Final Thoughts:
While Alomomola will likely not stay OU, it has a solid, singular niche for defensive teams. It is not splashable like its Regenerator-Water brethren, so you will need to be conscientious in its use. Finally, it is worthy of the Viability List.

EDIT: Added GIF, Finch has atoned

EDIT 2: Added Whirlpool

To be fair, you can't afford being 100% passive in this meta. Losing Toxic and Scald means anything and everything can set up on it and when you have a meta with so many insanely strong breakers and sweepers, you can't afford letting your opponent get several free turns. You can't even try to run a Calm Mind set since your SpA and SpD are so low. To me, Alomomola is just plain unviable in every way possible.

a big niche it has for stall teams is that its fat enough to take a hit from a setup mon after 1 turn of setup and wish pass to an unaware user. For example Chien-Pao comes in on clodsire -> switch to alomomola on SD, crunch, or crash -> wish and live the hit -> swap to skeledirge -> terra into fairy and burn. There are many similar instances with many setup sweepers that alomomola can be used to pivot other mons in.

On another note, I think whirlpool should be added to the worth considering pile. It allows it to beat non-bulk up great tusks and provides good chip damage to most mons esp with protect.

Alomomola @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 4 HP/252 Def/252 SpD
Impish Nature
-Wish
-Liquidation
-Body Slam
-Mirror Coat/Protect/Play Rough

The biggest reason you should use Alomola is definitely Wish. Alomomola can pass huge wishes usually enough restore most pokemon back to full health. Body Slam allows it to spread paralysis around so some set up sweepers will think twice about trying to boost up. Mirror Coat can also catch some attackers off guard usually to OHKO.
