SS OU Altaria Stall

Hello everyone, I would like to learn to play competitively, stall teams caught my attention, I accept criticism, suggestions and changes, I appreciate them.

Altaria_XY.gif

Altaria @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 252 HP / 52 Def / 204 SpD
Sassy Nature
IVs: 23 Spe
- Fire Spin
- Earthquake
- Perish Song
- Roost

My main intention is Altaria, this takes a use in the special defensive part, at first glance it is not the great wonder but it has a use to give a stop to Corviknight since with an unfavorable nature in speed plus 23 iv's it remains at a point less than Corviknight, so you can use fire spin and perish song without any problem. Earthquake would be a cover for Heatran.

Heatran @ Leftovers
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 252 HP / 232 SpD / 24 Spe
Calm Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Magma Storm
- Earth Power
- Taunt
- Toxic

This is the most common Heatran set, I liked it because with magma storm it catches the rival, and they have good synergy between the two.

120px-Corviknight_EpEc.gif

Corviknight @ Leftovers
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 252 HP / 168 Def / 88 SpD
Impish Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Body Press
- Iron Defense
- Defog
- Roost

Corviknight is for me the best Defogger of the current metagame, it was between a variant of u-turn and iron defense, I chose the second because I would like to have the most defensive team.

Clefable_XY.gif

Clefable @ Leftovers
Ability: Unaware
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Calm Mind
- Soft-Boiled
- Moonblast
- Aromatherapy

I feel that in every stall team there must be a pokémon with an ignorant ability, in this case there is Clefable who gives the team another physical defensive and aromatherapy support to heal the problems of the team or herself, for that reason I chose Clefable compared to others with the same ability.

Blissey_XY.gif

Blissey @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Bold Nature
- Seismic Toss
- Soft-Boiled
- Toxic
- Teleport

This position gives me a bit of grace because Blissey is without a doubt the best pokémon with special defense, I did not think twice about placing it since it pivots a lot.

120px-Avalugg_EpEc.gif

Avalugg @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Ice Body
EVs: 248 HP / 8 Atk / 252 Def
Impish Nature
- Icicle Spear
- Recover
- Rapid Spin
- Body Press

Finally we have Avalugg with icicle spear for Dragonite and not fear the multiscale, we also have body press to help us with Weavile and Arctozol, it is a somewhat dubious position since it was my last complete.

Well, this is all about my team, I accept any kind of advice and suggestion, if there is a forum on how to learn to build a stall team I would really appreciate it.

Stall is the only playstyle I am good at, so I guess I will help you a bit.

Minor changes:
Blissey- teleport ———> stealth rock
Teleport isn’t very optimal on a stall team, because there aren’t many situations where a stall team has to switch in without taking damage. The purpose of a stall team is to have mons that can take hits, while dealing passive damage. You have no hazards on your team at all, so adding stealth rock is beneficial to slowly but surely chip your opponents Pokémon.

Major changes:
Altaria- Altaria doesn’t have many redeeming qualities. If you want something to beat corviknight, you already have heatran, who can do that and much more. You also aren’t even threatened by corviknight, so it doesn’t matter how much counters you have. Unless you really insist on Altaria, you should replace it with a pure wall. I would recommend toxapex, because both of your main physical tanks are weak to fire, and clefable isn’t really good against fire types either. Toxapex provides a wall that easily tanks all those hits, and can regenerate the HP it loses every time it switches in. If you really like Altaria, you can keep it and switch avalugg for pex.

Avalugg- Avalugg is not the best tank, due to its poor special defense and typing. Not only does it have poor sp. def, but if it’s boots are knocked off, it becomes susceptible to stealth rock. I would replace it for ferrothorn. It helps with your weakness to electric types, and it is overall an extremely bulky Pokémon that has more reliability and bull when compared to avalugg.

This is the final team:

Hope I helped!

Are ferrothorn and heatran really that viable on stall though? I’m not a stall player but the point is to have longevity, both of which neither has outside of leftovers and leech seed.

No, they aren't, for the exact reasons you mention. I'd instead recommend Hippowdon, which fills your mandatory Ground-type slot and acts as an ok Heatran check, and Shedinja, which is now a staple on stall, checking threats such as Kyurem, Tapu Lele, and Urshifu-R + Future Sight.

I knew shedinja was sorta popular but I thought it was just for creative team building, is it actually a staple? Sorta crazy honestly

Isn't the point of altaria here being a heatran check not crippled by toxic? It doesn't sounds unusable, especially since generally speaking, trappers are much appreciated on stall in order to force progress

At least it would need enough speed investment to outspeed Heatran

It has natural cure

I really liked your suggestions, thank you very much.

My idea was to make an Altaria with ground cover for Heatran, it was a bit tricky to deal with because of the taunt and magma storm. I show you some calculations

252 SpA Heatran Magma Storm vs. 252 HP / 204+ SpD Altaria: 59-70 (16.6 - 19.7%) -- guaranteed 4HKO after trapping damage

252 SpA Heatran Flash Cannon vs. 252 HP / 204+ SpD Altaria: 96-114 (27.1 - 32.2%) -- guaranteed 4HKO

That's for an offensive Heatran. Now I leave you with a defensive Heatran

0 Atk Altaria Earthquake vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Heatran: 204-244 (52.8 - 63.2%) -- 99.6% chance to 2HKO after Leftovers recovery

I think you still need to be faster than Heatran, otherwise it still can potentially win by winning Taunt mindgames

yeah, but that would be far more reliable as a tran check imo

they can taunt u freely since they tank an eq
