Alter Bridge - One Day Remains (2004)
Genre - Hard Rock
One Day Remains was the debut album by the American Hard Rock band Alter Bridge. The album was released August 10, 2004.
Find the Real -Are we sure that 3/4 of the band were in Creed? The riff for this song is pretty damn kick ass and the bass sounds good too, the drums are rather nice and will keep you interested. Myles Kennedy has some very good vocals here. The best part of this song is Myles Kennedy at the end holding the word "Real" for about ten good seconds. It doesn't hurt either that this song has a cool guitar solo too. 9/10
One Day Remains - A lot of ignorant people would call Alter Bridge the band Creed 2.0, but honestly when has Creed ever done something this good? The opening drums sound pretty good, thank you Scott Philips. Mark Tremonti's guitar playing shows why he is one of the better guitar players of today and the solo on this song adds to it. Myles Kennedy's vocals are not bad either. Overall the title track is pretty damn good. 9/10
Open Your Eyes - Has a bit of Creed taste to it but it is still a good song. The thing that saves this song is for sure the Tremonti solo, and to a lesser extent Kennedy's vocals. The drumming on this song is rather boring however. 7/10
Burn it Down - Sure another bit of the Creed taste but it is not a bad song. Mark Tremonti throws in another one of his solos and Myles Kennedy's voice sounds very good here. The whole song all together just keeps building up in a rather good way. 8.5/10
Metalingus - In my opinion the best song on the album. If you're a wrestling fan you have probably heard this song being used by Edge. This song is just freaking good, has a kick ass riff, and is fast, heavy, fast, heavy, fast. The guitar work here is really good and the intro drumming is good too. The outro of the song is cool, Tremonti's guitar and Philip's drumming blend in perfect. If you want one song off of One Day Remains let it be this one. 10/10
Broken Wings - Slower and more melodic than Metalingus. This song is good but will be boring sometimes. Myles Kennedy is an amazing singer so that is a big up side of this song. 7/10
In Loving Memory - The song title just tells you it is not going to be a rocking song. In Loving Memory was written by Mark Tremonti to his mother who died. This song is very touching and emotional and feature some of the best lyrics I've heard. 7.5/10
Down to my Last - By the time Myles Kennedy came into the studio the majority of the songs were already finished. This song is written by Myles so he has some top notch singing here. Everything is good about this song and this is the last song on the album with a solo. Nothing bad but overall nothing amazing. 8/10
Watch Your Words - Ties Metalingus for heaviest song on the album. The riff on this song is simple but will keep you interested. The bass on this song is rather good and probably the best on the album. The drumming is good too. Like the previous song, Watch Your Words is nothing bad but nothing amazing. 6.5/10
Shed my Skin - Myles Kennedy's voice is very good and emotional here. This song will get boring after a few listens though. As the previous two songs nothing bad, nothing amazing. 6.5/10
The End Is Here - I don't know but I think of London Bridge on this song. The song has a slow verse but then all of a sudden the chorus is huge. The guitar is very nice, drumming is notable, and the bass is not to bad. Pretty basic riff but will keep interest. The End Is Here has a simple yet epic feeling to it and is a rather good song. 9.5/10
Overall - One Day Remains is a good album but will get boring after a few listens, and it does not really have much that you will remember aside from Metalingus. The band itself though has some good talent most notable in the singer and lead guitar player. Overall this album still has some Creed like qualities but it is not a bad way to start. The band's second album Blackbird blows One Day Remains out of the water.
